He speaks excellent English, which made the experience even better. Marcel's colleague, Joao, arrived halfway through my haircut and he was very cool as well. I booked through Booksy and it was easy and flawless. I reserved the haircut + taper fade + straight razor shave, and Marcel did an exceptional job. The shave was very relaxing, including both hot and cold towels. He finished with a very nice and unique aftershave that my wife liked very much. This shop is located in the Gracia neighborhood, just a couple of blocks from the subway stop. This area is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Barcelona! Absolutely NOT touristy, with so many hidden gems -- coffee shops, pastry shops, small grocery stores, and beautiful little parks where you can sit and enjoy a cool drink. As someone who considers himself a barbershop connoisseur, frequenting The People's Barbershop in the Bay Area (SF and Oakland locations) for their fades and straight razor shave with hot towel service, I can confidently say that Shellshock is absolutely getting added to the canon of classy barbershops for me. On arriving at the store, the blinds were shut and the lights were off and stayed shut right up to 15:00, after my third attempt at calling them, I decided to cut my losses and go to the metro to make my way back to work. I then decided to call them out of courtesy to see if they would answer. I was told "Im sorry but there was a problem with our agenda and we forgot to call you". My daughter went first, and she asked for a short asymmetrical cut. I went for a standard medium-length male cut. Our stylists did a fantastic job, and we looked great leaving the salon. They both took the time that they needed to attend to every detail. Now, the true measure of a hair style isn't what it looks like the day you get it; it's how it looks a few weeks later. I'm happy to report that, for both of us, the results have been amazing. It's almost as if they knew how these styles would grow out, because they've continued to look good, even four weeks later. I asked for a traditional, short men's haircut, and service included a shampoo and scissor cut. This is by far the best haircut I have received in years. It is hard to make my hair look good because of the directions it wants to grow and my hair texture (fine and increasingly thin), but Teresa succeeded where many have failed. As a tourist in Barcelona, I've felt torn: it's natural to want to see this beautiful, historic city, but my presence is also an imposition on the local residents who must feel like they're being crowded out of their own home by strangers. Nevertheless, Teresa and the owner made me feel welcome. I'm so grateful for their kindness and skill. Only €32 to look and feel like a million bucks. 10/10.

I specifically chose this salon because of all the other reviews mentioning that the staff spoke English. On the day of my appointment I called to confirm and the person who answered the phone didn't speak English and was incredibly unhelpful. I kept trying to tell him my name and the time of my appointment and he kept responding that no, I didn't have appointment. After about 30 seconds, he hung up on me. I tried calling back several times but he must have taken the phone off the hook because the line was busy. At this point, I was desperate - my hair was a mess and it was a few hours to the wedding. I took a taxi over to the salon and buzzed several times to be let in. The same guy (I assume the same person who answered the phone) didn't want to let me up. I finally got into the building and made it up the salon. When I answered the door I showed him the email confirming my appointment to which he said that the stylist hadn't come in that day, I believe because she was either sick or had to go out of town (the whole conversation was him talking in Spanish and me responding in English). It was already noon and I saw when I made the appointment online that she had other people booked before me, so it wasn't like I was showing up as the first customer of the day. So despite having my contact info AND the fact that I called to confirm no one ever bothered to tell me she wasn't coming in. Plus it was like they were trying to hide because they screwed up - hanging up on me and then not letting me into the building. The whole thing was a nightmare with the worst possible timing and made me almost miss the wedding. Regardless of the language barrier it was the definition of bad customer service.

It was clean and intimate, everyone there was really chill and the clients all seemed to know and love their regular stylists. My stylist was Carolina. I showed her pictures and described what I wanted but ultimately just trusted her to do what she thought would look best with my face shape. She worked with such precision and in the end gave me exactly what I wanted. I couldn't be happier. Plus it was way cheaper then anything I would have paid in a West Loop Salon in Chicago.
