While visiting friends, pop in for a couple of beers. Small Bar, very friendly Bar Staff & Locals. If in the area recommend for a pint.

Unfortunately the bride…read moreand groom didn't receive the expected service and when the bride tried to post on their Facebook page the following message she was blocked! The service at the Corton Inn is awful, do not visit this place. "After a lovely weeks honeymoon with my beloved husband it is now time for my rant... On Saturday 27th August, I married the love of my life Mark Sparham at St. Margaret's church Lowestoft. This was followed by a wedding breakfast and evening reception at the Corton Inn, this is where our nightmare began. We were having a three course meal, the tables were not set out with the correct cutlery, no condiments and bread rolls were served after the starters and just placed on the tables with no plates and no butter. Tables were called up one at a time by the toast master which we hired ourselves, the first few tables got plenty of food with no worry but at least THREE tables of 10 people got no food at all!!! To which some went out to Tesco and bought themselves sandwiches as they were hungry. As the bride, and sitting on a raised top table, it was like watching a Carry On film. They have no idea on how to conduct a wedding function. All the waitresses, were embarrassed as it unfolded and many of them did not hide the fact they had only just been called in to help at a function. Some of them were not afraid to admit they were not employed by the Corton Inn. Outside the Corton Inn they have an 8ft sign advertising 'Suffolk's premier function venue' - it is everything but! The two managers have no charisma or people skills whatsoever and do not deserve to be in the business! If anyone is considering using this venue for a wedding, you seriously need to reconsider your decision!"

About to undergo exterior refurbishment to return it to more of its glory, this is a pub worth visiting. This hostelry has no pretentious. It is what it is. On first sight it is a traditional darkwood pub all be it with a new but sympathetic extention and a large outdoor seating / smoking area. With closer observation you will notice a decidedly Gothic theme which the reviewer will leave you to discover. Although popular on football nights because of its screens, this is by no means a 'sports bar'. All ages and tastes are catered for and the licensees are especially children tolerant during the day. Food is served throughout opening hours. The food is certainly not haute cuisine, instead tending towards basic pub fare. But having eaten here for a number of years this reviewer can state that the value for money is exceptional. The mixed grill alone will have you putting on weight just by looking at it! Beer wise it has a reasonable, if not exceptional, range of real ales to accompany the selection of larger and spirits on offer, including a pretty good range of whiskies. All in all, this pub is always worth a visit. Nothing more than it is and all the better for it. Oh, and the staff are very welcoming too! Cetainly recommend.

There is also a projector screen and large tv that are used for showing sports events. Posters are displayed around the pub that provide you with the details of what is being shown for the next few weeks. Atmosphere: On a match night Rodney's is always buzzing. The last time I went Arsenal were playing Porto and the pub was absolutely packed. We could hear the cheers as we walked up Mortimer street! Once inside the pub we found a table near to the projector screen and watched the match. Everyone was in a good mood and the drinks were flowing. Drinks: There is a large selection of lager, cider, alcopops and wine on offer at Rodneys sports bar. All are sold at reasonable prices and the bar runs along two walls of the pub so there is always an opportunity to get to the bar when the pub is busy. Sporting opportunities: As well as the sports viewing facilities I have already mentioned Rodneys has a pool table and a darts board. You can play darts for free (just ask for the darts at the bar) whilst the pool table costs £1 for a game. The pool table itself is in a little room separated from the main part of the pub. Around the pool table there are several places to sit and overhead lighting. As the pool table is in a separate room it is easier to play a game as there is normally no-one other than you in the pool room. However there are several places in the pool room where your cue will hit the wall. The pool table itself is also not that sturdy and will move if you knock into it. It also seems to be on a slight angle. These issues do not affect your ability to play a game significantly and often provide you with a large amount of humour as your ball rolls down the table on its own accord. Staff: Several bar staff work at Rodneys. All of them are polite and friendly and add to the brilliant atmosphere of the pub. Overall: Rodney's is the best place in Herne Bay to go and watch a game, play darts or shoot some pool. Or if your not feeling sporty you can have a quiet drink on one of the benches outside. Whatever you end up doing you can't go wrong in Rodney's. Herne Bay's sportiest pub.
