I've been trying for a few days to schedule a simple inspection. I've tried through the website and I've tried calling several times. No one ever gets back to me. I have a newer Honda that is still under warranty so I figured I'd have the dealer inspect it in case there was a recall or problem that the warranty would cover. The kicker is, I bought the car in Rutland and that dealer offers free lifetime inspections. It's too far, though, to go just for an inspection. The double kicker is when I bought the car in Rutland it was because no one at the Automaster would get back to me after several attempts to talk to a sales associate to see what they could do for a price. read more

bought a car from this place a couple years ago and they failed to tell me that there was rust on my front brakes and rotors. I went to go get an inspection this morning and they told me that my car was not going to pass inspection because of the rust on the front brakes and rotors. It was extremely frustrating as they didn't tell me until 45 minutes into the inspection. this is ridiculous that my car is not going to pass inspection due to something that is entirely their fault. I needed a key for my 2005 Accord and a recall addressed. "Bing, bang, boom" is intended to show a serious of actions, sort of like saying "presto, change-o!" or "abracadabra!" It suggests a quick and almost automatic process takes place, sort of like saying "and before you knew it...". I've also encountered "Bingo-bango!" used in this manner. Ordered a new 2023 car from Honda Automaster in 2022, only to wait for delays after delays. I was told I was the first one to get that custom car in a specific color. I found out that Automaster was not attentive of their priority list and sold the car I wanted to another customer due to an error on their part. An honest mistake they said. Yet as a customer waiting for a car for 6-7 months, this is not an acceptable practice. Worst part was during March 2023, I told them I was going on vacation (1 month vacation) soon, expecting my car to arrive any day now, yet still no car, and was worried about the car coming in. I hoped that they can help me with their error by holding onto the car. Automaster Honda said if we were gone for one month and the car came in, that they would sell it to another person. Terrible... who says that to a customer who puts a deposit, sells a car that came in that fits my specifications, and tells them sorry too bad. "If you leave and the car comes we will sell it. We cannot hold a car for that long." Worst Honda Dealers and Sellers. Do not do business with them. Called another dealer and they instantly found my Honda and helped. I ve purchased several cars from Automaster over the years but never a Honda. Seems in these current times, pre-owned and new inventory is very limited. I was interested in a few pre owned suvs they had on the lot but it was difficult getting any dialogue going w/ my salesman - nice guy but not very responsive. Once I did narrow my selection down they wouldn't budge on the price even though their competitor had same car for $2000 less. They did mention another car I d shown interest in was now available and they'd get back to me w/ price but I never heard. On the flip side the completion was very helpful, price was right (not Chittenden County) and responsive too. They had a selection to choose from and if none of those fit the bill, they have cars coming in often. Needless to say they made it easy to decide. Sorry Automaster!! read more

I'm disappointed to have to write this review, as my past experiences here have been generally positive. However, because of a significant safety issue, I will no longer bring my car here. I drive a Honda Fit, which was equipped with the Takata airbag inflator. The recall on this item went out in May of 2016. Since that time, I have brought my car in three times. Each time I received a receipt that stated that my car was checked for open recalls. Last week, I received a notice in the mail that there was an open recall still on my car. The notice indicated that there was risk of serious injury or death if this recall was not performed. I immediately brought the car in for service, at which time I spoke to a manager about this concern. Quite simply, to miss this recall once is an unfortunate mistake; to miss it three times is gross incompetence. The manager could offer no explanation for how this happened, and no assurances that they could make sure this had not and would not happen to other customers. I strongly recommend that if you have your car serviced at Automaster that you check your car for open recalls. Your safety could be at risk. read more

In total we spent +$2500 at Automaster Honda and walked away with more check engine lights than we arrived with. Unless paying for repairs at a dealership is a hobby of yours, I recommend going to Della Honda, it's worth the drive. After having the rear brakes changed on our Honda, it was displaying 3 brake related check engine lights. We brought the car in to Automaster for repair and were told the electronic parking brake on one wheel would need to be replace. Upon getting into the car I noticed MANY check engine lights on. The initial 3 lights plus ~8 more. I asked what the lights were about and was told "not to worry they will turn off once the electronic parking brake is replaced". We brought the car in a second time and upon picking the car up, noticed the lights are still on, we are told the electronic power steering assist motor "somehow shorted itself out" and that's what is causing the check engine lights (the ones which weren't on before we brought the car in the first time), and will be +$1500 to replace. Why were we not told this was the real issue when I noticed the lights on after the first visit? The mechanic denies it was their fault and insists the motor coincidentally shorted itself out. We bring the car in a third time and when picking the car up, are told the part had arrived broken and we need to bring the car in yet again for this repair. Upon picking the car up a fourth time, we notice the car STILL has all the same check engine lights on. Why? "Whenever you bring it in for the wheel bearing, those codes will go away". What wheel bearing? "Oh the wheel bearing (on the same wheel coincidentally) is bad so it and the associated sensor need replacing". When did this happen? This is now the third reason they have given us for why the lights are on (the ones which weren't on before we brought the car in the first time). After bringing the car in a fifth time for the wheel bearing, all the check engine lights are still on. They say "we think it's a VSA problem. Don't worry, once you bring your car in a sixth time THEN we can get the check engine lights fixed for you." No thank you. We brought the car to DELLA Honda in Plattsburgh NY. They immediately diagnose the repair (which was not the VSA modulator Automaster was about to replace), and the car is running perfectly with no lights/warnings. read more

Loved the service done here-- granted, it took a bit long, and they almost missed something during the motor vehicle inspection that mitt have been a problem (I had purchased the car with tinted windows when I lived outside of Vermont). Still, they caught the problem! For a walk-in appointment, it seemed very smooth. I'll likely continue coming here, as long as my car is under warranty! Went out to Automaster to have my hub cap changed and noticed a noise coming from my car. An employee listened and told me it was nothing, I challenged this and he said I was over thinking the noise. Hours later...car won't start. Next day...AAA comes and I share the same information. Once again, what I shared with Automaster two months earlier when they changed my battery and I KNEW it was more then the battery and again, what I shared last night. AAA confirmed I was right and low and behold an alternator issue. Automaster, listen to your customers more. read more

I came to Automaster with a serious leak in the roof of my car, which had been purchased certified pre-owned only three months before. The leak was soaking the carpets of my car, which presented a risk of causing a mold contamination. The technicians wound up having to hold my car an additional week, forcing me to pay for a rental car at my own expense, but assured me the problem was fixed. It was not. The leak continued. Furthermore, the satellite radio no longer worked. I eventually had to take my car to my local dealership who found that the car had been further damaged by the Automaster. Fortunately, my local dealer did the right thing and fixed all the additional damage that had been done to my car by Automaster. That's right: not only did Automaster not fix the problem, it created additional problems that others had to fix -- not only did they return the car to me in a condition that was even further damaged than it was when they received it, they almost certainly did so knowingly. I can't imagine a worse experience with a dealership. The dealership behaved without decency or honor. read more

I recently purchased my first Honda from a dealer outside of the Automaster, and knowing the Automaster carried higher end priced vehicles, I was dreading the cost of picking up touch-up paint and having a repair done. Surprisingly, the touch-up paint was cheaper than other local stores, and the repair was actually covered by the Honda extended warranty, which was discovered by service dept representative Todd! I continue to be dismayed and disgusted, and feel completely mistreated and taken advantage of. I've purchased several Honda's from Automaster. The Honda's are great. The sales team are dishonest. When checking the value of our trade the salesperson also googled my personal history. He came back asking all sorts of "friendly questions" about my life that he had no other way of knowing. I was completely scammed on my trade (after saying they would give me a fair trade I got far less than Kelley Blue Book value), this was buried in the fine details. I was told I was getting a break on the cost of the car. I paid more than the Kelley Blue book cost for a new car. Shame on me for not paying more attention when signing off on the car. Later, after I complained, I was offered a free oil change. I was scammed out of several thousand dollars and was offered an oil change in response. Really. SHAME ON YOU AUTOMASTER for taking advantage of me. I'll keep buying Honda's (I'm due to trade in my 2014 in a few months). I will never buy from Automaster. read more

Service never answers, so you can't get any information on a repair or parts. The sales staff treats you like you're wasting their time by showing up to purchase a vehicle. Have had a generally terrible service experience with a certified, pre-owned BMW we purchased from this dealer. We've had to return 3, 4, even 5 times for various issues. For example, we're been trying to get our rear-hatch latch malfunction addressed since 2010. This week, we were back again. When we sat down with the managers and expressed our frustration, the owner's son confronted us in a physically and verbally aggressive manner and loudly informed us they were sick of us, sick of car and no longer wanted us as customers. I have to think this wildly inconsistent with what BMW desires for its customers to experience. read more

Horrible Experience with automaster. I have owned over 25 BMW and Mercedes vehicles... Knowing that they are the only dealer in Vermont that can warranty service I will never own one again sadly. Myself and lot's of friends, family and acquaintances have had the same terrible service that I have but in different situations. I do believe that mine is the topper though... I bought a BMW X6M from another dealer but did service with automaster for my length of ownership. This vehicle retails for $100K plus keep in mind. I brought it to them with a small smoking coming from the engine. They looked at it quickly and said they didn't have time to completely look into it which is understandable since I just showed up. They looked at it quickly and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It had stopped smoking so I forgot about it for a few days. A few days later it was doing it again. I brought it to the dealer I bought it from and found a very minor small leak in a coolant hose on the top of the head that took only a few minutes to fix. I put the vehicle up for sale and had been driving it for a few weeks after the fix. I found a buyer that had to wait a few weeks to secure his financing so I parked the vehicle until then. The buyer paid for the vehicle and drove it and immediately the same smoke came back. The buyer brought it to automaster and charged him hundreds of dollars to "diagnose" the problem. They told him it had either bad turbos or a bad engine ranging from $8000 for the turbos or $50K+ for the engine change. The buyer then of course called me and told me the news. I said that's impossible I drove it every day until I parked it. I told the buyer the only thing it could be was possibly that small hose clamp again. I told the buyer I would call Automaster and ask them to check out that problem (remember this is after they told him $8k-$50K to fix). I called and I asked the service guy Adam what was going on and he said the service manager Peter was handling it. I said have them take a look at the hose where there was a problem a few weeks before. He said oh yeah I'll let Peter know. So the buyer said to me they wanted another $700+ to "get further into the problem" so I said go ahead. Automaster again looked at it and "confirmed" that it was the turbos at the "very least" or the engine. So the buyer very concerned from their "detailed diagnostic" that this vehicle needed a $8k-$50k+ repair. I was up haled that this could have happened since I drove the vehicle every day with no issues (except the one I spoke of). I called the service manager Peter and asked him what could have possibly be happening. He said "oh yeah this vehicle is bad it has oil in the turbos and is knocking really bad it needs at least turbos". I was so bummed out and couldn't believe this was happening. I got to thinkiing about the whole situation... First of all to see that there was oil in the turbos they would have had to drop the engine which they didn't even come close to do. Second of all the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT would have to have been on which it wasn't!!! A 1992 honda civic with a bad engine would have shown that!!!! Clearly they didn't look at it, they weren't telling the truth and they had no idea what they were doing!!!! I was really upset so I brought it to the dealer I bought it from. The shop manager wasn't there so I just mentioned it to the sales guy that was there. WITHIN 25 SECONDS THEY FOUND THE LEAK IN THE SAME SPOT I TOLD THEM TO CHECK THAT HAD LEAKED BEFORE!!!!! Instead of repairing the hose with a new hose clamp as least time the ordered a new hose and BMW clamp and the BMW has not had a issue in 5 months! (knock on wood) I found out later they used a low level young tech on my $100K+ vehicle that clearly had no idea on what he was doing. Don't you think if you had that expensive of a vehicle you would have a senior experienced tech look at it. At the very least after the young techs "diagnosis" have a senior at least look at it. Automaster scammed my buyer only of lot's of money and almost cost me a $60k vehicle sale out of pure NEGLIGENCE. I will never buy and BMW OR Mercedes until another dealer comes to town. Just bought a new Civic, and it couldn't have been easier. I dealt with Jay, and he was very friendly, and never tried to pressure me or pull any of those shady moves that car dealers are famous for. I came in on a Tuesday, test drove the car by myself. Came back on Wednesday and agreed to a price. They were easy to make a deal with and gave me a fair price. No focusing just on monthly payments, or giving odd numbers (e.g. $23,456.87 to make it seem 'real') to trick you. No bringing in the manager to pressure you, etc. Got my car on Monday when my preferred color came in, and dealt with Josh in finance, who was also very friendly and straight forward. Big relief compared to other dealerships I've dealt with in the past. Would definitely recommend buying a new car from them again. read more

While the AutoMaster both sells and leases Hondas, BMWs, and Mercedes (and Mini Coopers & Land Rovers) this review is specifically Honda & Honda Service: Continued professionalism and service. I've been coming here with my Honda since 2008 and have seen dramatic improvement in the quality of service. I had some roughy encounters with a service person in the beginning but Honda service has since added new staff who have all been professional, knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. The value adds that this place offers is second to none and I am more than happy with the service they provide. Highlights of those values include: complementary shuttle service to and from your workplace if you need to drop your car off for the day, most often a complementary car wash (and sometimes a vacuum if your lucky), a charming waiting area with comfortable leather couches, complementary coffee and tea, as well as an automobile 'museum' type hall/corridor where you can kill time while perusing old artifacts and pictures. There is also a little play area for children as well as a baby grand piano in the waiting area (though I've never seen anyone play it). Additionally, they are great about sending follow up emails for schedule maintenance or specials they are running. Definitely a more upscale and enjoyable car maintenance experience. I believe they also have a Auto Spa which I have never taken my car to but would love to some day! read more

I was duped. I went in prepared to buy my 3rd Honda from Automaster with my son. I was clear on my expectations. Why I did not walk away is on me. I was lied to, cheated, and disparaged by the finance dept. (they thought I could not hear them talking). I don't know if they thought they could get away with the dishonesty, but they were successful. I was given less than book value for my pristine trade in, the numbers were so moved around that it was not until I got home that I realized what I had agreed to. I responded to a follow up survey after the purchase, sharing my concerns, and received no follow up response. I was promised a $50.00 fee for referring my son there to buy a car (my husband purchased a car there just 3 months earlier.). I received nothing. The $50.00 is inconsequential, the lack of professionalism, lying, and overall dishonesty will keep me from ever returning. The car, by the way, is great, just as all Honda's are. The price I paid, both cost and emotional, was unconscionable. Go any where else. That is the refrain I've shared with anyone who has asked about my experience. read more

I purchased my first ever new car from The Automaster in May of 2005. After researching seemingly every car on the market, I determined what I needed and what I could afford, and I arrived at the dealership knowing exactly what I wanted. I test-drove the car, loved it, went home to think about it and returned the next day to buy it. The salesman was knowledgeable and equally important, he wasn't pushy when I hesitated. We shook hands, he passed me off to the finance guy, the finance guy pulled my credit, gave me a loan, and told me what my monthly payment was going to be: precisely the exact amount I expected it would be. I drove the car off of the lot with a smile. When the salesman showed me the engine, he told me all these great things about it but the one thing that has stuck with me is when he said "Take care of this car and it will never let you down." In the 7 years that have followed, I have regularly used The Automaster for most routine maintenance. They are a bit pricey so I have chosen to do some oil changes and basic tire work elsewhere, but everything else has been through The Automaster. The service folks are kind, informative, patient, and accommodating. Their work is always done when they say it will be done. If that means at the end of the day, they have a top-notch shuttle service that will take you to and fro your job. If it means in an hour, you can wait in their comfortable lobby and take advantage of their wifi and updated magazine selection (I know it's a small thing, but we all appreciate when a waiting area has magazines that are current). One other nice touch is their offer for free state inspections for the life of the car, which has, thus far, saved me close to $200. They lose one star for their maintenance prices, but know that like most mechanics (cheap or expensive), you get what you pay for. That is, 7 years and 110,000 miles later, I continue to drive with a smile in a car that has never let me down. read more

We have been coming here for over ten years, even though they are a little more expensive than other options. Years ago we tried other places for service but the overall experience was never as good. My wife took her low mileage Range Rover Discovery into AutoMaster for a routine oil change and inspection. We have used them previously and their shop does good work. When I took my wife back to pick up the Discovery, they informed her that they could not do the inspection because the front tie-rods were worn out and the gas cap needed to be replaced. Estimated costs were $800 for the tie-rods and $95 for the gas cap. My wife came to ask me what to do. I walked into the service area and immediately saw the notice that Automaster would soon no longer be an authorized Range Rover service center. Since Range Rover tie rods are engineered to last at least 300,000 miles there was no chance that ours were worn out. This was just a sleazy attempt to gouge a woman who was in no position to argue. We left and went to another inspection providing garage and got the inspection without incident or expense. As I said, the mechanics at AutoMaster are good and do good work. But the management of this place normally deals with relatively wealthy folks with no real insight into what is reasonable and needed. And management will do anything they can to shamelessly pad their wallet at the expense of their naive customers. Avoid these sleazeballs. read more

Came in for an oil change, quick check-up, and tire rotation the other day for my Honda Insight. It did take 2 hours, but I come from a very densely populated area where the same thing would have taken around 4 hours, so this was not at all a concern of mine. I went to Automaster today and asked the service department to Key Recode so my keys will open and lock the doors. The service guy Joe walked out to car with me got in played with it for two minutes got out and said I can't do this the car is a rebuilt and has been in water. I don't know what was done to the care even though all the wiring and I had a tech from my regular mechanic tell me the car was perfect. Joe looked at me handed me the keys and said good luck we can't help you. ISTHIS HOW YOU TREAT CUSTOMERS!!! Well what can I really say other then the salesperson that sold me my 2011 Ridgeline was nice other then that it has been a nightmare, within the first 700 miles problems started and has not stopped until I had my local corner mechanic work on my vehicle, about 26 times this vehicle was at the Automaster for many issues were the same thing, I took it to the lemon law board and lost, makes you wonder who is paying them off, I posted on the Automaster Facebook page about the problems I had and Dale the general manager called me and said I was never allowed on the property or in the shop again, as if I would buy from them again, he then took my post down and you only seen positive comments about that dealer, you will know my Rigdeline when you see it because I have that character Calvin peeing on Honda Automaster. My 2006 Honda Accord had a airbag recall. I called Automaster and they scheduled me first thing the next day. I waited 40 minutes and the replaced two defective airbags and washed and vacumed my car for me. Thanks Automaster for excellent, prompt service! For what it's worth everyone there in customer service seemed professional and curtious to all customers which can be hit or miss at other dealerships. read more

I have gone to the Automaster for 24 years. I think they are great. I tried once to bring my car for service elsewhere. And ended up rescuing it and bringing it to the Automaster. lesson learned. They are honest, do great work. The Honda service person I deal with there, Gary, is GREAT about making sure my car and I are well taken care of. Even the receptionist is great. I bought my second Honda based on the good service I got with the first one at The Automaster. I would buy a Honda again based on the service i get there.
