Never helped with my hearing loss, ear canal issue or even discussed a plan to address of help even after I blacked out from vertigo and had trip to emergency room. After seeing them since October and having repeated a hearing test cause they wanted "their own" performed they never actually did anything to help me, 15 min to 25 minute office visists with less that 5 minutes with the Dr., doing the same thing over and over again like it was a first vist or something. Last appointment I cancelled because it felt like more of the same. Never getting any where just repeat, repeat, repeat....copay copay copay. Probably a better experience if you are 65+ because then they can milk the Government.

The woman in the office was extremely rude and then told me it was already taken, so I scheduled another day. They then called me back to take the previous slot (hmmm, they had an opening?). Dr. Burton was wonderful. I got my hearing aids and have had so much trouble with them. One aid wouldn't charge. They ordered me a new charger. 2 weeks go by. I call them. They had it, and they claimed they called and left a voice message. Nope. Didn't happen. Same problem. They wouldn't charge. I then left my aids with them for repair. Again, weeks go by. I call them. They sent them to Gloucester. They claimed same thing again. Nope. No message. And of course the Gloucester office is rarely open. I even asked them to call my wife JUST in case my phone suddenly had a problem. Nope. They didn't do that either. In total, FOUR times, they supposedly left a VM. Seriously??? Go to Costco!!!!!!! My wife was getting allergy shots (3 shots) at the Gloucester office for 2 1/2 years. Ann was the only one who did a great job. Every 2 months, someone new was giving the shots. She came home with knots, bruises, and a painful arm almost every time. Ann tried her best to be available for my wife, but couldn't always do it. The wait was horrible many times too. Sometimes, well over an hour!! She had to stop getting her weekly shots. It was too much for her. I don't think they take the Gloucester office seriously. They need to service this area better.

Between…read moredoctors not listening to my experiences/symptoms, not being able to reach my doctors, being plane insulted, and my documents never being correct. With PCP I had Dr. Nicole Munshower, in Yorktown, always brush off my symptoms and tell me that my day-to-day lifestyle was what was always wrong, even when I would do everything she suggested. I recently switched PCPs due to this to Dr. Latisha Murray she listened to what I had to say more when I had my appointment in early December, 2024, but I have not received any follow-up from that appointment even after calling, leaving voicemails, and messages. For OBGYNs it has not been much better unfortunately. My first doctor in this department was not bad, it is just unfortunate that so many birth controls are under researched before put on market. The Nurse Practitioner I saw next, Isabelle Smoot, belittled my experiences on different birth controls and opinions as someone who stays educated. I told her what I was not okay with after doing my own research and she kept pushing those options including giving me pamphlets. I looked back on the visit notes and it was written down wrong what symptoms I was having, reported what I was saying in response wrong, and it stated that I had a physical exam that day which I did not. Along with all these problems with the staff, my medical history is reported in-correcting and most documentation is often not correct either.

The center is located on the ground floor of River Pavilion at Sentara Norfolk General. Enter off Brambleton onto Gresham then loop around through the back section of the complex to the covered entrance way to River Pavilion. Free valet parking is available for patients. The location is convenient not just for Norfolk but also Portsmouth, Northern Suffolk & Western Branch via the Midtown Tunnel. It's an easy drive for those of us in the northwest section of Virginia Beach. I would suspect that the areas of Chesapeake with easy access to the Downtown Tunnel & I-264 would also find it a convenient location. Only knowing that this testing was required before seeing the Otologist that my Otolaryngologist had referred me to, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The only thing I did know was that archaic inner ear testing by a Virginia Beach ENT decades ago had produced a violent reaction. Because of his bedside (chair side actually) manner I never returned. So I brought a driver. The two tests were scheduled for an hour each. So I knew they would be extensive. Hearing was first. I was amazed by both their high tech equipment and extensiveness. The techs were extremely nice, even showing me a computer printout of the graphic results at different pitches & vocal sounds. I didn't understand the hearing testing being required because my complaints never included hearing. But my later research indicated that hearing could be related to inner ear & balance issues. After they finished they sent me to balance, which I learned would be the area where I would be tortured. :) The technician was a very competent & compassionate administrator of torture, just the opposite of what I had experienced decades ago. The equipment was even more futuristic than hearing. Three tests were administered. I made it through the first two with mild results & thought, after the an explanation of the last test, I had made it through the regiment without a violent reaction. Wheww.... But not so! What I thought were just black goggles were actually computerized & measured everything going on as all three tests were administered. During the 3rd test I told the technician what it felt like my eyes were doing. She confirmed that they were, which was my first indication that she could see everything going on inside the dark cave my goggles created. I didn't even make it through the first half before the results gave her the information the doctor needed to work with. Afterwards she was very nurturing, which was much appreciated. As I sat on the table I told her that I wanted to research the science behind why that type of testing would make me so sick. She provided me with a pamphlet on all the tests which would be immensely helpful when I recovered. What was meant to be an hour test stretched into 1 1/2 hours before she walked me to sit in the lobby with my driver. "Don't worry", she said. "The Doctor won't torture you. That's my job." :) She was great. The paperwork to be completed before the testing was extensive. I feel that they gleaned more information for the Otologist from both the testing & paperwork than any other specialist I've ever seen. And believe me, that's quite a lot! I am so impressed with the EVMS specialists. The EVMS Hearing & Balance Center comes with my highest recommendation for anyone with inner ear issues. I've never had a hearing test before. But I can't imagine any practice being as thorough and well equipped as this. Thank you EVMS, not just for being a great medical school but also for the amazing practices of your faculty members. Coastal Virginia is very lucky to have you.
