Barnes Center and the Wesley Ridge Hospice team, for the exceptional care provided to our father over the past two and a half years. Placing a loved one into a rehabilitation or nursing facility is never an easy decision. Watching that same loved one gradually decline--and eventually having to make the decision to transition to hospice care--is one of the most difficult journeys a family can walk. Throughout every stage of that journey, Wesley Ridge and The Barnes Center made an incredibly heavy burden easier to carry. I was present in the facility often, which allowed me to witness the care firsthand. I didn't just observe how the staff cared for my father while I was there--I also saw how they treated other residents throughout the building. The compassion, patience, and respect shown were consistent and genuine, regardless of who was watching. As my father's medical needs increased and his dementia progressed, the staff continuously adapted to meet him where he was--physically, emotionally, and personally. Medical testing, daily care, and moments of confusion were handled with professionalism, dignity, and grace. He was never treated as a task, but always as a person. When the time came to transition to hospice care, that change was handled seamlessly. The hospice team worked closely with the facility staff to provide meaningful end-of-life care, addressing not only his physical comfort, but also his emotional, social, and spiritual needs. The level of peace and comfort provided exceeded anything our family could have hoped for. We would also like to recognize the exceptional activities staff, who went above and beyond to bring joy, engagement, and purpose to my father's days. From volleyball, cards, trivia, pool, and cornhole to church services and faith-based activities, they made a genuine effort to keep him active, social, and smiling. Those moments of laughter and connection meant more than words can express and greatly enhanced his quality of life. I would also like to acknowledge the many staff members who are often behind the scenes but are absolutely essential--the dietary staff and cooks who took care in preparing his meals, and the housekeeping and laundry staff who ensured his clothing and personal items were always clean and cared for. Their attention mattered greatly and contributed to his dignity and comfort. What stood out most was the humanity shown every day--kindness, patience, reassurance, laughter, and genuine connection. We are sincerely grateful to all involved--nursing staff, aides, rehabilitation professionals, hospice caregivers, activities staff, dietary services, housekeeping, and support staff. Wesley Ridge and The Robert A. Barnes Center exemplify what compassionate long-term, rehabilitative, and end-of-life care should be.

I was lucky enough to be introduced to Miriam. She was knowledgeable, patient and incredibly helpful when helping me find a place for my parents. My mother was moved into nursing care at a facility to recover from surgery and then almost immediately covid hit. This was unfortunaty nefore we could move my father into the assisted living wing. Because of covid my parents were not able to see each other for months. My father was not doing well without seeing my mom. I decided it wasn't working and we needed to figure our a better place for them. Miriam stepped back in and helped me find an almost brand new care facility that because of its high vacancy rate was able to accomodate my parents seeing each other daily. They have been married almost 50 years and this was a quality of life issue for them. They have been in Smith's Mill for about a year and a half and receive excellent care there. I would 100% recommend Miriam to anyone with elderly parents looking to find them daily help.

We took her out on a little ride and she could not wait to get back to her room. She has had a pretty rough 85 days being in and out of hospitals and other rehab facilities that were lower than below the lowest low for facilities. I wish we had found this one the first time around. Dr. Deneen is the epitome of professionalism and he really does care about the residents! He introduced himself within 10 minutes of her being there. He saw her almost every day. Every day. The nurses are AMAZING!! One night I was leaving from my mom's and saw 3 sitting around one of the tables having dinner with a resident. They asked how her day was and what she had done. Ami came in and hugged my mom and sat down beside her and told her how much she was going to miss her. That is what you want to see in a facility you are leaving your loved one in. Beth had to call me to set up a care conference and the first sentence out of her mouth on my voicemail was that this was a non-emergency call. Now that may not seem like much, but when you are on pins and needles because your loved one has been very sick and has ups and downs for months; a phone call from the facility they are in usually is an emergency. She really did not have to say that is my point. However, she did and it was very much appreciated. The whole atmosphere is very homey and calm. They have bright call lights above each room and they have signage that shows that at the nurse's station which room needs assistance. Wild turkeys, deer, beautiful places for family to sit inside and outside. It has been impressive from day 1 and I could go on and on, but I do not have enough room. Our mother was taken care of just like we would have and we felt at ease during the day knowing she was there. They care, truly cared about her and helping her get back on her feet at the highest level they could help her get to. We've sadly taken her to other facilities in the area and were disappointed beyond belief. Not at New Albany Rehab. I hope she NEVER has to need that type of care again, but if she does, she is definitely going there. Thank you very much to: Kristin, Rebekah, Lorraine, Latoya, Kayla, Dr. Deneen, Cheryl, Annalynn, Joe, Liann, Judy, Cathy, Miriam, Ami, Brian (OT), Jeremy, Brandy, Katie, Jasmine, Tammy, and Beth. Each of you made the experience for our mom; Mary-Donna the best she has had during her whole ordeal since January 21, 2019. You treated her like you'd treat your own loved one. No words can express our appreciation for that.

Smiths Mill is a loving community like no other. And trust me, my dad was at 3 others previous to Smiths Mill. They treat my dad like a king, which he says all the time. My dad is so happy living at the Smiths Mill. He will literally say he never wants to leave. The food is amazing! The staff is like family and has exceeded all of our expectations! My mother has Parkinson's that is accompanied with occasional delirium…read more She developed a UTI which increased the delirium and temporarily decreased her physical strength to walk and stand. We had spent five days in hospital prior to being discharged to this facility. Our Social Worker at the hospital was horrible. She gave us five choices of facilities. This was the only one with beds so we came here. I would not recommend this place for a patient that has advanced Parkinson's or even moderate Parkinson's, especially if they have delirium and they cannot stand for themselves Why? They did not have a sensor on the bed that alert support staff that their fall risk patient might try to stand up without supervision. Many rehab places do you have this monitoring,by the way, we've been in two of them so far Also, the ratio of support staff (meaning aids and nurses) is kinda high for the number of patients I witnessed. I'm not sure what they will quote but what my I saw and what my mother experienced. There were a lot of delays getting care simply because there wasn't enough bodies to provide the care what needed often there were long waits. They have physical therapy, occupational therapy, and I think speech therapy here I feel my mother regressed from the point. She was admitted to the point that she was discharged. She was there for 4 to 5 weeks. She also didn't enjoy it, which is unusual. She usually looks forward to her physical therapy as for some weird reason that she thinks she can beat Parkinson's. I do not feel that her medication was given to her within the proper timeframe that are a medication dictated. With Parkinson's it's very important to stay within a strict timeframe of dopamine otherwise it's ineffective and managing her delirium. There seem to be a lot of activities. My mother did not partake in many of them. She did enjoy bingo. They do have two dining rooms for the residents to dine in. all serviced by the same chef. chef does a wonderful job with the meal preparation for such a large number of residents I did not like the way my mother was discharged. I am power of attorney and they had her sign discharge papers without her POA present and just left me a voicemail. Discharge was abrupt. It didn't need to be. This place has lots of potential -so much. I just feel like it needs different administration and may be a bigger budget so that they can hire some more staff. They definitely need that.
