In the time of Covid, we are trying to limit airline travel, so destinations within driving…read moredistance have become our thing. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not stay in a hotel room all weekend since that doesn't feel better than staying home. That's what led us to The Gathering. We came upon their listing via a post on Instagram about interesting places to stay around Austin, or within a short drive. I fell in love with the decor and the privacy! The Gathering is a collection of cottages or houses that each have their own style and although the houses are close to each other, they share no common walls, and each has a private outdoor area, and hot tub, in addition to delightful homey touches. There is a kitchenette for meals, but no stove or oven, but we found November the perfect time to make sausage dogs over the fire pit. We toasted s'mores and sipped champagne, spent time relaxing in the hot tub, and even rinsed off in the outdoor shower. By the time our stay was up, we were both wishing we had booked more nights! We stayed at the Hideaway house, which is the farthest property from the street and really enjoyed how alone we felt despite the adjacent houses also having guests. We enjoyed a game of basketball on the court across from our cottage and gathered pecans from the huge trees for a mid day snack. Deer were seen scampering across the back meadow and the gentle baas from the sheep nearby added to the bucolic scene. The only negative for me was that I found the mattress to be a bit firm for my tastes, but since that is purely a personal preference, I would not deduct stars for it. We will definitely book another stay, soon! Thanks for the Texas hospitality!

Check in was easy, we had no problems getting in. Property managers are communicative if you need anything but also give you complete privacy if you wish. There is free uncovered parking, park on the quiet street out front and there's a small, short path that leads you to all the different properties. The area is off the main streets of town to afford you comfort and quiet, but also close enough to get to everything easily via a short car or bike ride. I appreciated all the little modern, homey details of this place. A couple things of note: Wifi is very spotty so don't count on that if you need it for anything. It wasn't a big deal to us because we were there to relax and disconnect anyway. Not sure if it had anything to do with the Hideaway being the last property farthest from the entrance. If you want to use the fire pit, bring your own fire wood. Though there is a starter log provided and a gas fireplace available. Lots of shampoo and body wash provided but bring your own conditioner if you wish - only a hotel size tube available in the bathroom. Walgreens and HEB/Walmart are very close by if you need anything! Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

My boys (ages 12 and 9) loved the cabin's loft, having a campfire both nights, and "just everything Mom." After several days in hotels (nice ones too) we were pleasantly surprised at how clean and well-furnished the cabin was and how wonderful the owner Beverly was. Guests are free to come and go as they please and there is no lengthy check-in process, which is really nice after nearly a week. We felt at home immediately and have shared many pictures with friends and family, who were impressed. We seem to accidentally be making Texas road trips our Spring Break tradition, so it seems we will also be making Agarita Creek Farms our tradition as well! UPDATED REVIEW: March 2020... Still in love with this place! The bathtub in the larger cabin is possibly my corner of heaven on earth! Thank you Beverly! You are fantastic!

What a perfect wedding - or any gathering - venue. Attentive gracious hosts. Smiling unintrusive…read morestaff. Beautiful grounds. Sparkling clean everything. And the food!! Fresh, exciting, delicious and gorgeous. Presented beautifully but words can hardly describe the delightful tastes and textures of every single item. From plated dinners, aged meats and cheeses, to homestyle breakfasts ... our party enjoyed fresh fruits to the best comfort foods available ... but better. I savored the best halibut of my life (and I am a lakegirl and a bit of a seafood snob.) Our group spent 3 days here for a wedding. Everything was inclusive and the wine was flowing. 95% of our party never left the grounds during our stay. With that said, the charming town of Fredicksburg was a mere 5 miles away if, someone needs to run out and pick up something (like lactose free coffee creamer ;) ) Our first evening, a few in our party noticed no one seemed to be around. She found us all in behind the guesthouse star gazing. Pointing out constellations and planets. Adults that hadn't remembered to stop and simply lookup... for a long time. Texas weather was especially kind to us this magical weekend. Most of our party spent many many hours outdoors, with perfect temperatures, gentle breezes, and the sounds (and occasional hop-by) of frogs and crickets. We have already discussed a reunion here. Five star venue and ten star service without hesitation from me.

Even the floor mats at the front and back entrance are white? Very questionable color for furniture and place where people wipe their shoes. We were excited to use fire pit but before arrival received a text of a burn ban. The fire pit was one of the reasons we booked the stay but those plans were quickly killed. The property was not dog friendly. Our dog could not run around the land. Within minutes of arrival and the whole stay we were stuck spending time removing small round thorns from his fur and paws. We couldn't spend much time outside for this reason only on a dirt road with rain puddles was without those painful thorns forcing us to spend more time cleaning the dog then we hoped for. My husband and I were even bleeding from removing the thorns. If you're bringing your dog this is a NO GO and not worth the cost. The place is cozy and nice overall but our dog was imprisoned in the bathroom on rainy weekend. Def not worth the cost per night with lack of fire pit amenity or dog friendly land.
