Every year around Christmas, I go out to Utah for an annual ski trip. Stepping into The Antlers this evening made me feel like I had started my trip a little early! The space is decorated like a ski lodge with antlers on the wall, a great fireplace that you can smell from outside, and these adorable light up lanterns. The ambiance is seriously spot on. They have some great specials for dinner during the week (3 course meal for like $21 on a Sunday, discounted meats on Monday and Tuesday and some other cheap specials other days of the week!) I decided to go with my gut and get a shrimp cocktail to start and then the baby back ribs. The shrimp in the cocktail were small but perfectly cooked and the cocktail sauce was delicious and had the right kick! They also start you off with some warm homemade garlic bread which is a lovely addition to the meal. The baby back ribs were DELICIOUS. Seriously. They fall right off the bone so you don't even need to look like a lunatic gnawing at the bones during a nice dinner. Just tap them with your knife and let the meat fall right off the bone so you can eat it with a fork! I got the garlic mashed potatoes with my dinner which weren't really creamy enough for my taste (100% potato snob) and the vegetable of the evening was caramelized carrots. They were too soft for me (cooked carrots always reads baby food to me) so I wish I had another option to choose from because carrots wouldn't have been my first choice. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. It's great for dates (and isn't going to break the bank while still impressing the pants off your date) and family gatherings. read more

I like taking my out of town friends and family. Excellent food, and service. Not many vegetarian options as expected by the name!(Antlers) Cozy like a hunting camp, and seems like one. We have a newborn, and found there was no place to change him. I have tried most menu items, and always happy. My last visit I tried the Big Mike. What a burger, probably the best burger I have ever had. I have actually dreamt about this burger since then. The fryless fish is always satisfying. I am surprised about how much emphasis the previous reviewers placed on the ambiance and decoration of this place rather than the service or food. The review immediately proceeding did not actually mention any details of either, which I find to be a shame. It is also a shame that I will not really give this the extensive review that it deserves, because I just spent about half an hour writing it, only to have Yelp somehow eat it when I went to use the spell checker. What I will say, to keep it short then, is that the ambience is great, I don't see the problem that people have with the hunting lodge motif. Last time I checked, that was a perfectly acceptable theme for a quality American restaurant. The seating is arranged so that each table has great privacy. This is a very good place to take people that you actually want to talk with, as there is no risk of getting seated next to some loudmouth screaming on his blackberry. Yes the clientele is older, but I tend to associate this with a more sophisticated experience anyhow, so I don't see how that detracts. On to the food and drink, the best part. To start off, The Antlers features a full bar and an excellent selection of beers and local wines. My favorite entree by far is the Creole flank steak, smothered with an excellent spice rub and accompanied by a homemade barbecue sauce. The seafood dishes are also excellent, some of the best seafood I have had in this area. Try the stuffed shrimp. The specials, including $16 lobster dinners on Thursdays, are worth coming out for in themselves. For dessert, try the Indian pudding, a delicious sweetened cornmeal mush served with local ice cream. I've gone here for several special occasions where I expected a great dining experience to impress the other people in my party and I have never been disappointed. No, the Antlers is not on the level of John Thomas, Heights, or Taughannock Farms. But if you want an excellently prepared meal with a decidedly traditional American flavor, served in a cozy, inviting setting, coupled with excellent service and very fair prices, I'd say this place is hard to beat. read more

Terrible. I wish no stars was an option. For starters the starter salad was not worth $4.95. I couldn't hide my surprise and my family mimicked my response for the rest of the night. We had to send back my husbands food because it was still a patient of the Cornell Vet school. The food was subpar and overpriced. We came for a special dinner and were really excited to try this place out. We ordered curried shrimp and NY strip steak and both were mediocre - especially for the price. It was pretty empty and the service was still terribly slow and what's more, we couldn't tell which waitress was ours because they all looked alike. I love this place! Their soups, complimentary garlic bread, and salads- especially the Santa Barbara salad- are all delicious. I love the roast duck; not many places serve it and theirs is so delicious- juicy with a crispy outside, moist inside, and the cherry glaze goes great. The side portions (vegetable and potato or rice) are not huge, but I have never left this place without being stuffed full of their yummy homemade food, often with leftovers. They do use a lot of locally-sourced ingredients as well. I've been many times and the service is almost always impeccable- they're there when you need them, yet don't constantly hover over you- just how it should be! The decor, despite the "hunting lodge" theme, is still classy and tasteful. Many of the trophies on the wall were actually harvested by the owners as they both are avid hunters. The fireplace is a really nice touch in the winter and the flower gardens look spectacular in the summer. read more

My boyfriend took me here after looking for something not in downtown Ithaca, and I have to say that we were pleasantly surprised. The waitstaff were all very friendly and the ambiance was so cozy. They seated us in a corner table somewhat close to the crackling fireplace which was nice. The live music was a plus although the piano-tunes were kind of outdated and did get repetitive at one point. The food was great and I highly recommend coming here on a sunday night when they have their 3 course pre-fixe menu for only 22 bucks (a total plus). Really nice place - everyone enjoyed their food and had a good time. However, their sanitation practices may be questionable - I got violently ill a few hours after eating their Chicken Amandine. Recently in the Ithaca area visiting my brother. Hotel had this restaurant on their list of recommended places for dinner. We decided to give it a try. Good move! The restaurant is in the suburbs, less than 10 minutes from Cornell. East to find; lots of parking spots. Good variety; pasta, steak, seafood, ribs, etc. We started out with a bowl of their Lobster Bisque. It was delicious. Best I have had since the bisque at the now closed Gary's Duck Inn in Orlando. My stuffed shrimp were also very good. Returned the next night for the Prime Rib special. Once again, the meal was very good. Place was packed; always a good sign. Came in with a group of 18, and they served us brilliantly. Staff was friendly and attentive and timely. For the most part the food was very good too. The crab cakes, flat bread pizza, scallops, and glazed Salmon were all pretty spectacular. Amaretto chocolate moose is also excellent. There were subpar parts however. The side dishes were bland and uninspired. I had rice and veggies with my Salmon, and they were entirely average at best. The rice didn't have much flavor at all and the veggies were just normal veggies sauteed in oil and pepper. For such inspired main dishes I expected a lot more from the sides. The crème brulé also left a lot to be desired. The crust on top was burnt rather than caramelized, and the cream tasted like egg nog. I like egg nog, but that's far too artificial for good crème brulé. It tasted like they might've bought pre made crème brulé. A friend of mine also got some steak, and ordered it medium rare, and got it very well done. I'm not being dramatic and petty about it. There wasn't a centimeter of pink inside that steak. All of this said, it wouldn't have been a big deal if not for how expensive it all was. If the Salmon and veggies and rice were $15 rather than $20+, I'd be totally fine with mediocre side dishes. If the crème brulé didn't cost $7.50, over cooked and artificial flavor might've been fine. But I expect more for the price, especially on such easy food to prepare. I would go back, when the food was good it was great. The atmosphere and staff were excellent, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone. A party of 2 can find a much better way to spend $70-80. The Antlers is a very nice restaurant with good food. I enjoy the broiled haddock. They recently expanded to add more seating. This is a different type of restaurant due to the fact that it is decorated with mounted deer heads. The heads don't bother me, I think it makes this place different and unique from other places. Sometimes they have a special piano player in and that is nice too! The only thing that sometimes bothers me about The Antlers is that the lights have a tendancy to flicker every once and a while. but I would still recommend this place to anyone looking for a fancy place to eat. read more

As a bartender, it pains me to see a featured cocktail list where 9 of the 12 drinks are made with vodka. If I remember correctly, most of them were sweet, fruity drinks as well; not much originality or creativity going on in that department. The wine by the glass list also left something to be desired. The majority of them were whites and there was little to nothing in the way of a full-bodied or dry red. The martini I ordered was delicious (though there's not much of a gin selection to choose from) but the martini glass was filled ALL THE WAY to the top - very tacky, and technically incorrect as far as bar tending etiquette is concerned. The dinner I ordered was the coconut curried shrimp, but there was little to no curry involved. It had a nice flavor, but it was so sweet that it was practically painstaking to eat the whole thing. When it came time for dessert I felt I'd already eaten it. To be fair, the waitress did tell me the dish was sweet, but... wow. I wasn't expecting it to be that intense. The portion sizes there are small. I've paid $20 for a dinner elsewhere and at least walked out with leftovers to show for it. The atmosphere is decent. I like the lighting & fireplace and was fortunate to be there when AJ Strauss was playing piano. But dining amongst so many severed animal heads feels a bit bizarre. Well, I tried the "Original Antler's" burger... terrible. I ordered it rare, and it came out cold, raw, and the smoked gouda cheese was shredded and cold, not melted. Literally the worst burger I've ever had, and inedible. The waitress Rachel over-explained that this is the way it should be, not knowing that I'm a chef. Furthermore, it didn't get comped, and she actually asked if I wanted to take it home and cook it more! You could spend the same amount of money at Agava, and get a real burger with a good portion of great fries. This thing came out with four steak fries. Perhaps the best place in Ithaca, but of course, if you've eaten in Ithaca, that may not say much. Went out for a date night and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. The decor was warm and inviting and quiet and they kept the fire crackling all evening. We went on the famous lobster night, which my date had, and I opted for the horseradish crusted salmon. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the crust had a great kick. The lobster was also well cooked and fairly meaty (considering the $16 price). We also go the lobster bisque and soup de jour - roasted tomato with mozzarella. Both were really great, served hot and very tasty. The bread was also warm and well buttered which is always a nice perk. I would certainly recommend trying this place if you're in the area. read more

So this seems to be the best place I have ate at yet in Ithaca. The lobster bisque is rich and full of love. The ribs are fall off the bone tender; you can eat them with just a fork. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and the waitress was attentive, but not hovering. She was funny and friendly. They pack a ton of people in there, but the noise level was perfectly fine - not too loud. If there was 1 thing that could be better, it would be a better choice of appetizer. It seemed like most of the options were just smaller servings of the entrees. The Antlers reminds me of a rustic lodge in the Adirondacks. Warm and cozy, lots of wood and a friendly atmosphere. We took advantage of the Wednesday night Prime Rib special and weren't disappointed. It was cooked just right. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and our meal came out in record time. I really like this restaurant. It's nice and cozy (the fireplace is awesome!), and I've always had friendly and attentive waitstaff. The food is very good, though I wouldn't call it particularly creative - just good, solid, American-style upscale comfort food. I feel like the prices are a little high for the area and the type of restaurant it is, but you do get good portions. My one complaint about the place is that they have a huge full bar, but no beer on tap! Some of the food demands a good beer, and at a restaurant I'd rather not drink it from a bottle. read more

We visited this place last night due to Yelp reviews and I'm so glad we did. The place has a wonderful ambiance to it and the food was great. The garlic bread was very good to start. We each had a crabmeat sandwich which we both enjoyed. The garlic potatoes were really good, along with the cole slaw. We shared a stuffed shrimp appetizer which was very good also. A Temnykh family favorite; they go here for all special occasions. The atmosphere is excellent, comparable to a hunting lodge with a wood fireplace. The owner greets and seats every person that comes in. Some of the favorite dishes include baked stuffed shrimp, sea scallops, flank steak, and LOBSTER BISQUE. Some dishes are only okay, and dessert can be hit or miss. Pricing is reasonalble for the quality of the food and atmosphere. It is usually very quiet, and makes a great place for a date night. Having lived in Ithaca for many years, I've eaten at just about every restaurant in the area. While there are some nice restaurants in central Ithaca, one of the best is found outside of Ithaca in a little cozy bar called The Antlers. As you drive northeast along route 366 leaving Ithaca be sure to hit the brakes when you see a giant rusty moose by the side of the road and pull over for a bite. The Antlers is a great place for large parties and small intimate reunions. If you are in a large group of about five or more be sure to call ahead to Antler's because even though the restaurant isn't usually overpacked, unless there is a big event such as the local college graduation, the floor space can be rather limited. Despite the small space Antler's is a nice quiet place to have some delicious home cooked steak and sea food. Antler's is a little different from most of the other restaurants in Ithaca because it is old school in a very good way. When you first walk in there is a little reception area with a few chairs, and in this area is an open closet where guests can hang their coats up during the meal. I haven't seen this feature in most restaurants nowadays. Its a classy touch that makes Antlers unique. Another unique touch is large stone fireplace in the center of the room that is lit brightly in the winter. Diner's are also treated to friendly and fast service all year round. For starters there are several great appetizers such as smoked trout and baby back ribs, but one appetizer that I have never been disappointed with is the Baltimore style crab cake. The crab cake appetizer has a nice breaded coating and the crab meat on the inside is not too soggy and I've never experienced it as tasting dry. The crab cakes are served with tartar sauce. This is are also available for a main course. As far as dinner goes there are many other delicious foods that Antler's offers. There are sandwiches and salad choices that everyone can enjoy. There are also daily specials which are often interesting. One such special is the fresh lobster for only $16 on Thursday's. My favorite entree is the Antler's burger. It's made of angus beef topped with tomatoes, lettuce, gouda cheese, and onions all on a brioche roll. There are several times that I have eaten the burger, and sometimes it can have a bit of a charcoal taste, but it's delicious none the less. The burger has never been dry, but always juicy and cooked to perfection. It's not what you would find at any fast food restaurant. I have had many burgers in my lifetime. I always love eating burgers at cookouts, and at other restaurants, and to this day the Antler's burger remains the best that I have ever had. Just a note to all other burger lovers, the side of fries that is served with most burgers is a little different at Antlers. Instead of fries diners are offered a choice of garlic mashed potatoes, a baked potato or rice. The mashed potatoes are always excellent, they are always creamy and smooth and the garlic isn't overpowering, but to those who do like fries with burgers, bear in mind that Antlers doesn't often serve fries. No matter, don't miss out on Antler's dessert. The dessert menu has everything from apple cobbler to ice cream. Personally I would recommend the chocolate mousse and Indian corn bread pudding. The Indian corn bread pudding is very special because I haven't seen it featured at any other restaurants in the area or any other restaurant for that matter, and it's a great comfort food. If you ever get the chance please have some. The chocolate mousse is my second favorite dessert. It's smooth and creamy and topped with whipped cream and a cherry. If you still have a sweet tooth even after the mousse and indian corn bread pudding The Antlers also make some good Shirley Temple's. I've had the sweet mix of sprite and cherry syrup every time that I have gone and have always loved it. There is also a good selection of wine and beer for an older crowd. No restaurant is perfect, and that includes Antlers. Although this restaurant is casual dining, not everyone may find the prices so casual. It's more expensive than most places that you would go out to on a regular Friday night. The crab cake appetizer, for example is $7.95 for one serving. There are two cakes that come on the plate and most of the appetizers aren't family sized. isturbed by the decor as the walls are decorated with stuffed animal heads, antlers and other items related to hunting. Some may find the decor a delightful novelty, but others may not like the hunting theme very much. Despite it's flaws, Antlers remains a great restaurant by my standards. It has good food, for a reasonable price, and the ambience is also nice. I know that I'll be going back to Antler's, and I would have no trouble in suggesting it to anyone who asks. read more
