The Art House is located in Lake Concord Park where you can also experience for free, the Sculpture Walk, Sculpture House, and Arts Center. The 2.500 square foot Art House is part of Casselberry's plan to create a hub of cultural enrichment in Lake Concord Park. The Art House provides space for art classes, art exhibitions, educational programs, workshops, artist lectures, and musical performances. I was lucky enough to catch the Art House open during the 2nd Friday Food Truck event. They were having an exhibit of paper art by the Art House All Stars. It was a delight to visit this art exhibit and Casselberry which is a community that values and supports the arts.

The exhibit is divided into two "houses". A house remodeled into an art exhibit, and the modern house in the back for other art pieces. The first house has paintings and items on consignment. Art lines the walls, and you can take it home...for a price. The more modern house was more interesting in my opinion. It had sculptures that told a story. It was nice to walk around before the Jazz Festival this evening and take in the art! Service: Art exhibits Selection: beautiful and interesting art

While I am very familiar with the blue markers of the state wide Florida Historical Marker Program,…read moreoccasionally I will come across a county or city historic marker. On a recent walk around City Hall, I found this marker erected by the Seminole County Historic Society. Historic markers are a great way to learn about the formative people, buildings, and events in Florida's history. Hibbard Casselberry is the founder of Casselberry, Florida. In 1926 he came to the area to visit his family in Winter Park. At the time the surrounding area was a fern farm that grew asparagus plumosis ferns for the florist industry. Casselberry became the sales manager for Fern Park Estates but left to plat his own subdivision, Winter Park Ferneries which became known as Fern Park. Throughout the 1930's he continued to develop his fernery and real estate business. This marker recounts how the City of Casselberry was initially tax free. Mr. Gordon Barnett, a local former state legislator proposed a town charter for Fern Park that included property taxes. Mr. Casselberry's Countered with a tax free proposal and and he agreed to pay out of pocket any necessary costs needed by the town. On October 10th, 1940, the tax-free Town of Casselberry including parts of Fern Park Estates was officially incorporated and Mr. Casselberry lent his name to the town and served as its first mayor. For many years the town proudly boasted of being tax free. On May 16, 1965 a new governing City Council was created and they levied the first ad valorem property tax in 1976.

A Beautiful Day for a Neighbor is bronze statue on Rollins College campus. Created by British…read moreartist Paul Day, it celebrates Rollins College most beloved graduate, Fred Rogers. In 1948, a 20 year old Fred Rogers arrived at Rollins as a transfer student to attend the music program. Rollins was also where he met his future wife and lifetime partner, Joanne Byrd. He graduated in 1951 as a member of Rollins honor society, the Key Club. He received an award for composition and the General Charles McCormick Reeve Award for scholarship which was given to seniors with the highest academic record. Fred Rogers credited Rollins College with shaping his desire for a life of service. Of his time at this school he said "Everything I ever learned at Rollins has helped me in my work... So many of my particular 'neighborhood' at Rollins helped me to see more clearly than ever that education is a process. One learns from within not as something is superimposed from without. It takes a long time to grow. I'm glad that there are still some schools which allow their students ample opportunities for developing their own unique identities." A Beautiful Day for a Neighbor was unveiled on October 28, 2021. It is located in between Knowles Memorial Chapel and Annie Russell Theatre. The sculpture is 7 feet tall and weighs more than 3,000 pounds. It celebrates the television program, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, which ran from 1963 until 2001. It was one of the first television programs aimed at child development. The front of the sculpture depicts Mr. Rogers in the real world in his iconic sweater and sneakers surrounded by children who are listening to him as he holds a Daniel Tiger puppet. On the bottom of one of the children's feet is the numbers 143. Mr. Rogers would say "It takes one letter to say 'I' and four letters to say 'love' and three letters to say 'you.' Mr. Rogers maintained the weight of 143 pounds in the last years of his life. The back of the sculpture takes you into the imaginary world Fred Rogers created. This is where you encounter the castle from the Neighborhood of Make-Believe which is where Mr. Rogers would touch on his most difficult subjects. In the castle are Lady Elaine Fairchilde, King Friday XIII, Queen Sarah, X the Owl, Henrietta Pussycat, Grandpère, Ana and the Platypus Family, and my favorite character, Daniel Striped Tiger. On the bottom of the sculpture is the Trolley that takes you to the Neighborhood of Make-Believe along with the lyrics to his most famous song, Won't you be my neighbor? Around the base it says " A beautiful day for a neighbor" and "Would you be mine?". As a child of the 70's I grew up on Mr. Rogers. Seeing this work of art brought back so many cherished memories. I loved how detailed it was and it really captured the generous essence of the man. It reminds us all to be a little bit kinder.

I'll mention that service is not as attentive as you would expect at a typical restaurant, as you are also watching a movie, so I'm sure it is to keep interruptions minimized. Today, I had a vegetarian wrap with French fries (and of course tasty popcorn!); all were very good. I especially like the fries they serve here, with a battered style coating that keeps the outside crispy, but with a soft interior. The one thing I've noticed is that some of the seats are getting a little worn.

I love this theater so much! The seats are so comfy, and every one has a great view. The popcorn…read moreis is really good too, they use real butter! This spot shows new, classic and art house films. It's also a great place to watch Oscar nominated films. There will often be series viewing for nominations in special categories. If you want to meet a new or old friends just step outside to the Eden Bar with original art by Bill Plimton. Here you will find a full bar with beer, wine and many original drinks to choose from. I have had many enjoyable evenings chatting with fellow cinephiles. If you're hungry, they not only have a full bar, they also have a full kitchen with a creative menu. It's avaliable during movies and at the bar. Comes an out and enjoy an artsy movie night out at The Enzian.
