This 5 star review is not for the AK Club, it's for the staff. I was at the Eagle River club earlier tonight and I saw an older "gentleman" mention there were no towels in the men's locker. Although a valid complaint, one of the staff members (Amber I believe) let the member know the washers were down and they would supply towels asap. The member then told her to take the towels across the street to be cleaned. While his ignorance caused everyone to turn and stare at him, the previously mentioned staff member handled him with patience and repeated her intent to assist asap. Very professional way to handle a rude encounter!!! read more

They have everything you need from lifting equipment, cardio, stretching, personal training and especially a pool! They have a kids play area so you won't have have an excuse not to go . Worth taking a tour and possibly the 1-Day pass and exercise all the amazing things the gym has to offer! read more

!!!!Con artists taking advantage of military families!!!!! -Signed up for "the very last military family slot", called the "60-day comfort *guarantee*" in Feb. The guy that signed me up was PUMPED because it was the BEST DEAL for military families & he only had ONE LEFT to giveaway. He even told me not to call my husband & "ask permission" because cancelling was as easy as calling him back anytime!!! and saying "this isn't for us". -Well we went to 90 days, so I knew I was delinquent one month. My husband & I went in, in May, with a check for $151 (which was what we were told would be our monthly fee after our comfort *guarantee* ended) to pay for the extra 30 days and to cancel our "membership". (Reminder, doing this in person, with Mr. Burnette, like he told us we could.) -Upon arriving, he reviewed our file, and informed us we had no contract and told us that we were actually signed up for a 90 day comfort *guarantee*!, not 60, so we didn't owe them a dime for May!! And since we were not interested in continuing a membership *& we had no contract*, we had NOTHING more to do...EXCEPT! email finance of our decision to terminate. Very specifically between days 91-100, of our comfort *guarantee* ending. -We repeatedly went over the process & he assured us that we had zero obligations, financial or otherwise, beyond that visit & an email to finance to say "thank you, no thank you". -Finance took two weeks to even respond to me, after I'd sent four emails requesting clarification. -Brian Burnette was never heard from again. -Ms. Priscilla Ortiz in finance told us over the phone, after exchanging emails, that Mr. Burnette had lied to us & registered us for a completely different package than the one he sold to us. Shy of $300/mo! -Then she informed us he'd lied further about the cancellation policy, & that we couldn't "just cancel". Cancellation required 60 days notice! Something Mr. Brian Burnette forgot to mention when we sat in his office for 20 mins asking specifically about cancelation policies!! -Ms. Ortiz further informed us that we were stuck paying them almost $700 for two the months we had to stay members, just to terminate.... -We freaked out & since we'd been lied to, Ms. Priscilla graciously worked with us and brought down all the charges to $257, which we were more than happy to pay!! Priscilla said it would process around the first of June, it did, & she sent us a confirmation statement FROM THE ALASKA CLUB that our payment had been posted & our account balance was zero. My husband called and confirmed with her over the phone as well. -Weeks later, she emails back that they had processed our records & needed back pay from April!! (which confirmed I was right that about a 60 day guarantee, not 90!) because now, according to their records, no payments they processed from us, ever went through. -Ms. Ortiz then disappeared in the same way Mr. Burnette did. -We called several times and asked for her by name & were always given an excuse she couldn't come to the phone. She never returned any further calls or emails we sent. -A new rep, named Wendy, called & said they had not been paid & we had to show proof via our bank statements for them to drop it. I refused because they waited until AFTER WE WERE CLEARED, 2 weeks before our account closed to say "oh by the way we didn't get paid and we demand more money"!!?? -Wendy's conversation made it seem like only showing them our bank statements, would make it all go away. -Then we started receiving bills for $689. -We got the last warning/late fee letter in September & now debt collectors are calling on their behalf. -The Alaska Club is such a nice, clean facility & the staff, who actually work the front desk & floor, were always so kind & went beyond the call of duty to help me as a member. -Something I admired & made sure to leave comment cards praising how great the facility was running. -It makes me regret all of it, after being treated this way. -We used the pool as family four times & the gym/daycare twice. -We were happy to pay $151 for that experience. -We were more than happy to pay, and DID PAY, $257 for that experience. -To now be hunted down & choked for more money after you've admitted to us that an employee LIED to us just to sign us up AND keep us hooked, is really a poor way to run business. -Now I make sure to leave comments everywhere I can, telling everyone what con artists you are, & how you prey on families who only have a few years to invest in your club. -You ought to be ashamed of yourselves, & admit when you've made a mistake instead of coming after a service member & his family. -There was nothing comforting about this experience and my comfort was not guaranteed. Anything but. -Your BBB rating is an A+, but all your reviews and complaints are one star & filed under Finance/Billing. Always clean updated equipment that is well maintained. Staff is courteous knowledgeable. Hardest working Director Jared and Manager Brittany in over 24 years we have been members. Love the pool classes . Showers clean well stocked . The community involvement is inspiring. They have Open house once a month with a cool theme . They also recognize needs in the community. Food drive, clothing. The Director Jared had been the driving force to remember staff & members that have passed on in a respectful manner. I am very disappointed with that service. One of Alaska club employee invited me to their open hours to take a look. The next step was to offer me a discount with 500$ and first month 20$ only. I singed the agreement and being told that I can cancel the membership any time during 3 months. I realized I don't have a time to visit that place and today I called them to cancel it. The problem is that this company forcing clients to pay 500$ cancellation fee. What? For what? I didn't even visit that place 2 months. THERE IS NO FLEXIBILITY FOR CUSTOMERS AT THAT POINT. If you want to stop membership or you find a better place or you want to move so there is no option for you to cancel it. I AM DONT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! NEVER TRUST SUCH A PLACE! We're from Anchorage but saw the kiddie pool area and made the (short) drive out Sunday morning. The staff at the front desk was friendly and showed us around as it was our first time here. There is all new workout equipment and a nice track upstairs to run/walk on. The pool is why we came here. The toddler/kids pool is like a mini water park which is super cool. It is open when the gym is open meaning you don't have to come during open swim as long as you stay in the mini pool area and not swim around/go on the big slide until open swim. There are two family changing rooms as well as men's and women's locker rooms connecting to the pool area. I used the family changing room with my toddler. The floor was super slick hence the one star drop (my baby fell and hit her head). The pluses in there though are a shower with a shower head you can take down and move around to easily shower your baby, plenty of towels and bags for your wet swim suits. The negatives is slick floors and in the pool there are tons of filter thingys that protrude up and trip my toddler while she's walking around in there. She didn't seem to mind but she does have several scratches on her feet and legs now. She loved the pool and I had to fight with her to get her out. Overall it is totally worth the drive out and we will have to check out the childcare area too (looked super fun when we peeked in there). read more

When we joined the club members no one been told us about swimming pool rules, and we had no problem swimming there, no one was told us my kids 5 years old can't swim there with his life vest until today, one of the employee was swimming in the pool we wasn't knowing she was there first or my son was there first, she ask us to leave change to other line, my son just 5 years old, so I asked her please to move other line, cause my son was not listening at that moment, she tell the manager let us to leave, she's very upset because my son was swimming there, she's stringing us all the time (very rude looking) I trying to tell manager the situation she said we been rude not the employee was swimming in the pool, she's told us we should leave, I told her please cancel my membership today, the manager said she will, last word she said was "enjoy"~ poorly management very rude, we been traded very badly. We are not welcomed and that's ok,we'll cancel the membership, never join Alaska again for sure. Not recommended to anyone! read more

Went to Eagle River Alaska Club with my friend who was stopping in to cancel his membership because he said the Management was terrible and the clubs were gross and disappointing time after time and was sick of wasting money. Then we went in and this super pretty lady was totally in the middle of fixing something and I said wow, thats one good looking handyman! An employee went and talked to her and she actually stopped what she was doing and came over to talk to us, she gave us each a really impressive handshake and introduced herself as the new General Manager, WOW! She was really cool and was very concerned about my friend who was going to cancel, but she didn't say oh don't cancel or anything instead she asked if we had a few minutes so she could walk around with us and bget our feedback and wanted to show us everything, she totally made us feel like we were rockstars and my friend couldn't believe how different the place was cause he had been there a few months ago and it was bad and dirty and nothing worked right and staff was didn't care and management just blamed the higher ups. But he said he was so shocked and I had only been to the other clubs a couple times and I was not happy, but this place was awesome and everyone working was super nice and you could tell they really like working there and I asked some of them about the place and they said it was really cool and really nice cause the new General Manager was super businessy but cool too and really trying to make it way better. So my friend didn't cancel his membership and I signed up and she didn't even try to make us which was really cool. Looking forward to getting in shape and hopefully while getting to watch the pretty lady boss fix stuff that was cool! Not alot of chicks are bosses so kinda really cool and unique. read more

My wife visited the Alaska Club in Eagle River in November 2017 intending to sign us up for a family membership (we are a family of 5), with childcare and the whole package. She talked with a woman there about membership but the prices and terms were not explained very well so she left confused and with more questions than she had when she got there. Shortly after that, the woman left and we were handed off to member representative Eric. He called my wife several times asking when we were going to come and sign up for our family membership and "get the pass we wanted fo the week". During this time, our youngest son became very ill and ended up in the hospital for a while--Eric called again (mid December-2017) and my wife told him "my son is in the hospital and so I'm going to put some more thought into the membership and I'll get back to you." Rather than just say something like "have a nice day" or "goodbye", Eric got upset and just hung up on her. So we went from planning on spending $200+/month on this club membership to leaving a negative review on Yelp. This gym is alright for the most part. They have been talking about "renovations" to the place for over a year now, however, nothing has happened. The cardio machines are top notch, and the weight equipment is okay, although it gets really crowded in there considering it caters to all of Eagle River and the weight room isn't very big. I've yet to visit the Anchorage ones, so this review is for the Eagle River one only. The staff if really young but mostly friendly. They usually upkeep the weight room pretty well and seem to keep busy when the boss is around. There's always a supply of towels and the locker room is always up-kept. All in all, it's a decent gym. I can't seem to justify the $90 a month price tag even if I go every day though. :/ Also, they should do something(i.e. discounted rate) for their military, saying a big customer base comes from JBER. read more

Biggest complaint price and space. It's on the high side as far as price goes. I attend out of pure convenience of the location. The gym is a bit cramped in the weight room. Now if your looking to attend a gym that has child care in Alaska it's not bad. Be prepared to pay though it's not cheap. Need a 24hr fitness I paid $30 a month there. Usually busy but never seems too crowded. I've been going here for a couple of months now and never had to wait to use a piece of equipment. They have a great variety of equipment from cardio, strength training, pool, etc. Friendly staff and it always seems like someone is working to keep the place clean! read more

I have two gym memberships back home in Florida, and am on an extended stay here in Alaska. I got a temporary membership here while staying. I can say, that this the cleanest gym I have been a member of. It's clean, it smells good, the staff are friendly, and they have everything needed. Granted it is not super big, but it has been perfect for my needs while visiting. I really can't say anything bad about this gym. read more

I'm a stickler for customer service. If it were my business, everyone who comes in the door should be treated as a potential customer. Ok, so you ran out of your $25 for 12 days passes. The reception I received from reception dude and an older gentleman with a club name tag was so off putting - like I was too late to the cool kids party - that alone made me want to turn around and leave. You'd think that their job was to bring in new members - I was the one asking about other options and trials and passes, trying to make something work. Still, dudes were too cool to talk. Granted, I live in the lower 48, but I come up often enough to do a decent business with the Alaska Club. I think not anymore. Save yourself some face and head somewhere else. read more

I gym here practically daily...it's a little outdated and could definitely use some renovation, especially in the weight room. It's pretty cramped, mostly during peak hours which I try to avoid. I usually go around 5:30am...always the same oldies in there, they're nice and respectful I suppose. I mostly keep to myself. I wish there were more padded space, for stretching and such...it seems clean mostly. I like the cardio machines, and towels are always available. It's pretty expensive though. My boyfriend and I pay 130/ and I've gotten massages there that aren't worth what you pay for. Mostly it suits my needs. I get my pump and go :) read more

It's expensive, which is fine if there could be a bit more customer service and less fraternizing, albeit harmless. A lot of the employees seem nonplussed by members and are very casual. Hell, I had that at Body Renew for $25 a month. Also, can we talk about the towels? Not all of us are size 4 and ready to run marathons. Some of us are large women who are either very active or very anxious to lose weight. I've seen some tie towels together just to make it from the shower to a locker. Other than that, the equipment and building are well maintained. No complaints there. read more

I was fairily okay with the Alaska Club. I moved to Alaska with my dad not to long ago and I havent been put on his account yet. The guy let me through but told me next time I would have to pay. I didnt like his tone of voice, but I could tell he was trying to be friendly. As for the facility I was very happy with it. Clean equipment and well maintainenced floors in the basketball court. The reason for my four star rating is because their clothes are outragously priced and none of their basketballs were aired up. I had to go to the front and as for a pump. read more

Big club. Super expensive. Great kids play ground. Very good classes even ballet. They have towels but if you will come during pick time being your towel. Clean. You can buy gym apparel there and drinks if you forgot yours. I loved classes. Plus they have parties at the gym. And I ran Marathon with some women from club. read more

I've edited this review a bunch of times because it's kind of a roller coaster here. I have limited time to work out. The equipment here is very nice, clean, and state-of-the-art. The pool is excellent and so nice to have! The sauna needs to be replaced desperately. I have to reset it all the time and wait 20+ minutes for it to warm back up- and I don't have the time. If memberships was inexpensive, I wouldn't care, but at almost $100/month - I want all the amenities working. read more

Terrible customer service point blank. They are very cunning with how they pull you into a membership. Plus ALERT they do not count the times you go to the gym if you sign in! Our cards were not available because they didn't have them for over a month. So if your trying to get to that 25 uses before your 90 days it'll only count if you use your card. It would be simple to go back and check how many times our children were in care too, logical even but the accountant wouldn't do that, why? Why wouldn't you go out of your way to help a customer? This is down right dirty management and although I do like some of the amenities manipulating customers who would otherwise pay is a great way to loose customers and go out of business. To the management: Go research companies who have lasted the test of time. Companies like Coke Cola give back to their customers, listen and respect their customers, and admit when they were wrong...even if they weren't. Looking through these comments the customer service issues haven't changed in 6 years and they continue to point the finger back at the customer instead of say, "we are sorry. Ok for the most part however the maintenance is crappy. Small stuff mostly like the towel hangers in the showers have bee broken off for months. The audio and some video on the upstairs machines work about half the time. Some of the machines don't work or turn off in the middle of a workout. A little TLC would go a long way here read more

Don't waste your money. For the amount of money you will pay here you could finance a home gym....or a car. My wife and I were quoted 159 per month and got charged 190. Reaching out to customer service is also a headache. We were also told we could cancel our membership at any time within 90 days of signing up, when we contacted them about canceling (which my wife was on hold for over 30 minutes) they stated that we cannot cancel within 90 days rather between the 90th and 100th day which WAS NOT WHAT WE WERE TOLD. And I specifically remember asking the guy who sold this membership to us this question and his answer was "yeah you can cancel anytime before 90 days". If you're looking for a gym do yourself a favor and don't waste your time here on a crooked corporation of a gym I've seen all my life. Oh and not to mention their equipment is sub par if you've been to any other gym in the country. Hope this saves some of you money because this place will take you for all you got and give you nothing in return. read more

Just moved into the area and a friend invited me to come check out the gym. Unfortunately I wasn't able to "enjoy" since I spent most of my time waiting on the membership person to come out and sign me in. My friend asked me join her and sad part was the class we were taking was about to start. She even had a pass for me. I don't see why I had to see someone from membership. After waiting almost 15 min all I got was a sales pitch from Cecil and he was RUDE!! He didn't care that we missed most of the class and even when we repeatedly mentioned it he kept trying to take me on a tour and probing for questions. Customer service seems to be a common complaint and I guess I'm adding to the list. Had a confirmed appointment to tour the place at 7:30. Went in, no one had any idea I had an appointment. Was greeted later by a trainer who I showed the confirmation text from, and still had no idea after talking to the girl behind the counter. He called the manager to see what they could do, and I just didn't want to waste my time so I walked around the facility just to see it for myself. Seems really clean and cared for to their credit. However, I asked how much the membership is, and they said that they have a ton of amenities. I said, "Great! What's the membership cost?" Then they said the sauna, tanning, and massage package is $30. I said, "Alright, so what does the membership cost?" And the guy hesitated and said he wasn't sure. He said he thought it was $100.... how do you work for a gym, and not know what they charge? Seems very fishy to me (red flags potentially for them having hidden fees, and sketchy contract terms).... May be nothing, but I'm going somewhere else. If I'm paying what the guy guessed at (after asking three times), I expect good customer service and my short experience combined with the previous reviews makes me think this isn't the place I want to spend my money. Good for a town the size of Eagle River. Nice variety of cardio equipment. Equipment is almost always clean and operative. Locker rooms clean, consistent supply of clean towels for sweat rags and showers. Sauna and steam room are very nice in the winter. Limited number of classes in the summer. Young employees come with all their youthful foibles. Disgruntled employees eventually disappear. If you are big into weightlifting you need to find another gym in Anchorage, but Eagle River has the basic weights and racks etc. read more

I loved this gym when we signed up in Jan of 2015. It is now a circus to go there. The staff is all new. If you ask one question to 10 people you will get 10 different answers. The new pool hours are laughable. Complaining to management is a joke. I used to love taking my daughter to the kid play room for exercise in the winter but now I feel like she is just put in front of the TV. Also there is a worker in there who brings her FOUR children of all ages and sizes and only pays attention to her younger baby instead of other children in the room. My daughter is a little older but has been picked on, kicked, hit and jumped on by this woman's older child several times. She used to hate for me to pick her up after two hours, now she is ready to leave after only 45 minutes. Lately they have had several birthday parties going on in which they don't tell anyone and remove your kid from playing so they can have a birthday party during regular hours. This is a problem!! They have specific hours for parties but are so hungry for money they have the parties and push the kids into the corner. This has happened every weekend for a month now. I HATE this club now when I used to love it. Nothing about it is good anymore. Nothing! If you have very small children, DO NOT TAKE THEM IN THERE! Oh, and the lifeguards at the pool are a joke. They are so busy blowing the whistle at kids not using the ladder I saw a two year old fall in the pool, a kid swam to him, picked him up out of there and put him on the side and the "lifeguards" NEVER saw it happen. Completely clueless!! But he did blow his whistle at a kid who jumped instead of using the ladder two seconds later. Good thing too, the water comes up to that kids waist. read more

This is our families second time belonging to this Club, Uggg, customer service is the worst, such attitude from your employees, like they could really care if you were there is what i take away from here. The only reason we stay is that it is the only club which offers the amenities our family enjoys. The employees seem to forget that without us (the costumer) there would be no need for them! Left my stuff in one of the lockers overnight and they, I kidd you not either took some bolt cutters or something to my lock took my stuff out of the locker and put it in the back room, as they called it "the inventory room" and that was 3 days ago, every single day I've went in there and tried getting my stuff, the first day they said it's in a room that only a manager had a key to so I said okay when is the manager gonna be back and they said the next day, so the next day comes around I give them a call and ask them if there's a manager on shift, they tell me yes, so I rush down there, made it there in 10 min from the time I hung up and when I got there they said all there managers have gone home, I don't care if you're a multi millionars corporation you can't just hold my stuff, I will wait another day for a manager to show up but I promise you if I walk out of that place for the 4th time without my stuff I will be back with the police cuz I'm sure they don't need a key to get my stuff, read more

I would not drop my toddler off at the daycare again. We usually have no problems with any of the play centers as we use all of the clubs from wasilla to anchorage. While we were gone for the two hours to work out my daughter most likely sat in a dirty diaper the whole time we were gone, when I got back to pick her up, my older one had pointed out she needed to be changed. I had confronted the provider about it, who was wearing a baby on her back and couldn't possibly be bothered with any of the other children. She just simply replied oh we didn't notice that she needed to be changed, couldn't have been for very long. Of course not. So I go to change my child and see that she's got a diaper rash forming, which is a sign of her sitting in a dirty diaper for a long period of time. I am disappointed in this while debacle. On top of THAT, they lost one of her socks, when she should have had them on st all times. And again, when I tried to find the sock, the attendant with the baby on her back couldn't be bothered to help. This play center does not have attendants who watch and care for all children in the play center. I do not recommend using it, I certainly will not be using it in the future if I have to use this club again. Sloppy, just sloppy. read more

I love the Eagle River Alaska Club. The staff is all friendly and informative. If they cannot answer a question immediately they do what they can to get the answer. If equipment is down it is usually quickly repaired or replaced. Facilities and equipment are clean and well maintained! I couldn't be happier with my experience! read more

I only gave one star because I'm forced to rate it in order to comment. This place has terrible customer service. I was about ready to move out of state, and I moved from Anchorage to Eagle River to live with a friend for my last month in AK. I tried to get a 1-month pass since the gym is so close to my friends house. The guy on the phone told me I couldn't get one because I've already lived in Alaska. He said if I was visiting from out of town, he could give me one. That makes absolutely no sense to me at all. I never had a membership in Anchorage bc the base gym was closer and free. Why should it matter where I'm coming from if all I want is a pass to your gym for a month? He didn't even offer me any other choices. I've also seen the facility and been to a few classes at the midtown (which costs $20 to drop in), and I do not see that they are worth the money they charge their clients. So I guess I'm glad he didn't offer many any other options. Save your money, go to Body Renew. Same stuff, way cheaper, and much better customer service. read more

Just signed up last week, so far, not impressed. Took my kids to the play area and it was filthy. Liquids spilled across the floor, video game controller pieces everywhere, etc. The video game consoles were hit or miss in operation and the receptionist blamed the kids for not taking care of it. Cool, it happens, but for the price of admission, it should be easy to replace those items. Pretty sure my family will do its 90 days and cancel the membership. read more

My Godson worked out there for his Jr. and part of his Sr. year. Had to leave the state for College and unable to keep using his AK Club 2 year membership (Paid through Family Partnership charter school). We cancelled with a 30 day notice and there was no penalty. Yay! He used the track and the circuit. If your student is in a Charter School in Alaska, use them for Weight Training or PE. The school pays for the membership. read more

I signed up for the 90 day trial. I missed my opportunity to cancel after the first week, and am stuck in for 90 days. It was my mistake, but now I am paying for something I don't want to use. They lock you in with a 24 time sign in, plus a fitness consultation. Any place that offers a business model like this, where they try to lock you in for a year, is a bad business. It's a decent club, but I will cancel after my 90 days for the sheer principle of it. read more
