There's been a lot of talk about The Abbey, one of the newest bars in Liverpool, and its location on the ever-popular Hanover Street in the centre certainly gives it plenty of attention. It's a friendly sort of bar with an bustling atmosphere and an elegant simplicity that lends itself well to a few drinks after work or suchlike.
There is some yummy pub grub to be had here with the likes of hot melts and wraps (all served with chips), sandwiches and light bites like breaded garlic mushrooms, chunky potato wedges topped with cheese, hearty soup, their own twist on a prawn cocktail, and their superb sharers like loaded nachos, wings and combo platters and some very special chip bowls with the option of curly fries topped with cheese, chilli, baked beans, salsa or BBQ sauce, mushy peas, or mushroom or a variety of other stuff alone or in combo. Mains like salads, pies, fish and chips, burgers and sausage and mash make up the rest of the menu alongside and some very scrummy desserts.
You can get some expertly mixed cocktails or a good range of beers, so it's great to kick back here but as a nightclub it's a little generic, opening seven days a week and offering your average funky house and cheesy classics. Still, it's nice to know the place still has a party atmosphere in the wee small hours long after the post-work wind-down. With tasty and substantial food and a central location it's definitely a good spot to relax and munch some grub. read more
