The Swan is the sort of place you can walk into at any time and you're guaranteed to know someone in there. If you don't know anyone then you soon will. The staff and customers are welcoming and friendly. They re happy to leave you to your own devices or put the world to rights with you if you so desire. The pub is full of characters from cheeky student types, to pensioners without whom the pub might actually fall down. The bar has won many awards from CAMRA - the campaign for real ale. There is a large range of real ales, mostly from the local brewery Cains. The ales are changed often but a couple of old favourites such as Wobbly Bob have been there for years. There is also a huge range of spirits, bottled beers, continental beers, alcopops, wine and ciders available. There are 3 floors in the Swan inn. The ground floor is the most spacious and has a large bar with bar stools, and stools, pews and tables. Upstairs is smaller but a bit brighter. There is also a mezzanine level which is the newest floor. This is a good space to grab early on in the night if you are expecting a large group of people. The jukebox on the ground floor has long been known to be the best in Liverpool. Upstairs is a video jukebox which is updated regularly. During the day time there is a small selection of food available which is inexpensive and very tasty. I love this pub, I would recommend it to anyone. I particularly like quiz night which is every Thursday. I would class the Swan Inn as a Rock pub but it welcomes everyone.

This gives it an edge however, it's individual and stands out with it's never say die attitude. With gothic grime and leather jackets tattooed with Metallica being the most fashionable in the home of Dragon Force and Whitesnake, you have to be tolerant of such music, have very selective hearing or a monopoly of the jukebox to survive. But if you can get past this, or have a secret love of Bon Jovi (I haven't seen him live I promise...well, maybe once.) then it's a great place to come. I can usually be found here pre-FACT viewing for cheaper booze than the cinema and a more down-to-earth watering hole, complete with hard rock. Where can I get some piercings? It's rubbing off on me.

The rugby was on and was showing on the big screen and TVs downstairs which looked like a great atmosphere. We went and sat upstairs as we were getting food but they still have pleanty of tvs to keep a wee eye on the game. The sound is turned off though which made nice atmosphere for those not interested in sports. Not sure if they made it gassier but we had pints of strongbow dark fruits which were the best I've ever ordered! Deliciously refreshing. We enjoyed saw the breakfast on the menus so we popped back in the next day and got some. I had the full breakfast with all the usual stuff, was delicious and decent priced. My wife got a breakfast muffin which looked incredible, she was a little hungover so didn't get to finish it all but assured me she would've! All in all a great pub in a great city!

Never mind that the faded old sign hanging above the door says The Rising Sun, that's just part of…read morethe ragged charm of Shenanigan's Irish Bar. It's a small, ramshackle kind of place but with a statue of the Virgin Mary hanging over you at the bar, you'll feel in blessed hands getting hammered here. I'm not sure what it is about Irish bars that feel the need to display the collection of odds-n-sods that have been gathered over the years but this place also has plenty of them filling the spaces on the walls. The strange addition of a display case in the corner filled with china plates and jugs next to an old fashioned stove only adds to the sensation that the bar was converted from Ma O'reilly's home. However there is not just a strong Oirish contingent who come here as I have often noticed a good Polish representation here which adds to the lively mix of nations who like a drink! Situated near plenty of Liverpool's clubs this place makes for an unconventional start to a good night out.

"Yeah sure, knock the whole street down. See if I care. Just don't touch the pub!" It's a massive shame that 'Irish pub' can often be interpreted as a byword for 'painfully fake and tacky' but if they were all as inherently groovy as Shenanigans, the world would be a better place.

A hearty beef stew with chunks of potatoes and carrots. The dark brown flavor works really well with a chunk of buttered crusty bread. My partner had one of their pizzas which they cleverly named after different famous artists that have visited. He reported that it was good. We ended our lunch with their sticky toffee pudding, which was served hot so it was delicious. Great scouse in a great pub atmosphere! It feels like an old pub, but one that is well loved and looked after. Great service that ensures you have everything you want but leaves you alone to enjoy it.

As soon as you walk in, you're transported into your eccentric Uncle's attic. Everything you could think of adorn the walls (including chamber pots), and as you wander over steps and stairs to get to various areas of the bar, you find more and more cool things to look at. Someone, who I'm guessing was a regular, told me that the murals on the wall were painted in the late 20's as a repayment for a bar tab the painter couldn't afford. Whether it's true or not, it's the perfect story for the pub. The decor is extremely warm, with its deeply colored murals, blazing fireplace and leaded windows. I just simply feel good whenever I'm here. The regulars are colorful, hard drinkers and the bartenders are about the same. They all seem to truly enjoy their home away from home. Make sure you tip, though! The owner of the bar has a few rules to keep her place in line and are common courtesy acts you should be doing anyway. I hear they have great food, but the only bits I've ordered were crisps munched on over a really fun quiz they host each week, made even more enjoyable by the patrons and host shouting things at each other from various nooks and crannies of the pub. So if you're looking for a unique time with equally unique people to boot, Peter Kavanaugh's is where to go.

However, to do so would be at your own peril. The place is amazing. I've read countless reviews before in which people rave about a certain establishment for its 'large selection of drinks' but all this usually means is that they have a few alternating pumps. They have nothing on the Ship & Mitre, which boasts a drink selection so astronomically baffling that they've stuck up three menus to contain it all. The choice is staggering. Fancy something brewed by Trappist monks? You can here. Fancy drinking noxious cider that's bred in some guy's garage in Somerset? Fair enough, if that's what floats your boat. Whatever you opt for, you'll come away impressed. It's just that kind of pub. And that's before I even start on the fruit beers...
