This place was fantastic for a total casual skating newbie. Tattoos took such good care of us. We…read moretold her we were brand new to skating and she pulled out all the options and had us try on each, telling us what to look for in the fit and filling up the rest with great stories, charming and relatable, which put us at ease. We were there maybe an hour and a half all told, but it didn't feel like it. We never felt rushed - she took her time and let us take ours. Brilliant experience. She was a wealth of information and helpful tips, gave us a YouTube account to look at for techniques and a local place to take classes. We very much enjoyed our time in this shop and with this wonderful woman. Wish we lived closer! Suffice it to say that, if you're in the market for skates or skating gear (or anime gear, toys, wearables etc), this is the SPOT. The kind of place you love supporting because it feels like home and you can geek out together about things you love. What a treasure. We both walked out with some insanely comfortable Retros and a set of pads. A week later we are just beginning to get out skate legs, no longer feeling like such awkward baby gazelles, and very grateful for the care and attention she gave us in helping us select skates, know what to look for, and where to start learning. This shop is a valuable community resource, so be thankful, Detroit - this is the real deal

They took the time to listen to us, they gave us their expert recommendations, they had my kid try on a bunch of different options, and, once we made our selection, they helped us customize the wheels, toestops, etc. They were SO much more knowledgeable and customer oriented than other skate shops we've visited (very noob friendly) and way cheaper too. We will be back!

Nice store with a lot of magic related items from books to kits to the tricks like hand buzzers. The gentleman working was a great help and spent time explaining some tricks and recommended some books. If you have even a cursory interest you should stop in.

The staff is great, both guys were very helpful and talented demonstrators of various tricks. I mentioned how familiar all the props seemed from when I used to visit a little magic shop in Ferndale in the 1970s owned by Romeg the Magician and then Poof! As if by magic they pointed to a photo behind the counter and told me that this store was in fact the second reincarnation of that very magical place from my childhood, transported to Clawson 40 years later. What an amazing coincidence that I should take my nephews to buy tricks at the same place that made me fall in love with prestidigitation all those years ago. I bet that some of the items lining the walls were actually the same props from all those years ago. If you love magic this is the place to go.

After spending nearly $100 at Glow Fish Studios during a relaxed visit on my day off several years…read moreago, I received a direct text from the owner accusing me of stealing a $60 necklace and threatening to press charges unless I returned it. There was no proof, just that the item was missing. I told her I didn't take anything and offered to help look for it--if she stopped threatening me. Instead, she took me to court. It took three months for them to produce video footage, which confirmed what I'd said all along: I never stole anything. I was not found guilty of any crime, yet I was forced to pay over $1,500 in legal costs simply to defend myself against a baseless accusation. Glow Fish Studios doesn't feel like a business anymore--it feels like a sting operation run by someone who gets a little too much satisfaction from accusing and humiliating people. I used to shop here often. I have no criminal background. This was deeply traumatic, and it seems they care more about "catching shoplifters" than actually treating customers like human beings. If you value integrity, avoid this place. They are not the small business they pretend to be. Overpriced shit that isn't even from real witches. Just gentrified, rich white women who profit off aesthetics, not authenticity. Save yourself the drama and support Motown Witch or Moonlit Mystic LLC--actual Black-owned Detroit shops that honor the craft and don't treat their customers like suspects.
