Plan on two hours for each show. Bathrooms are outside the theater but spacious and clean. I saw Dangerville on my first visit and then Newsies on my second visit. Dangerville is locally written with some improv and inside jokes about Utah, they have a pianist accompanying whole show. Newsies is Disney, very beloved by musical theater lovers; this was the best live performance of Newsies I've seen to date. All cast members are exceptionally talented with their singing, dancing, and acting, so any show at Pickleville is worth going to. Most cast members come from outside of Utah and are performing arts majors or professional performers.

This playhouse is amazing! The facilities are great and we'll maintained. The production ("Thick as…read moreThieves") was fantastic. The cast is incredibly talented! Honestly, bought tickets with low expectations. But when we pulled up to the building, I could tell there was a lot of work and care put into this place. We ended up buying tickets across two entire rows. In retrospect, we should have bought seats behind each other, on one side of the theater (kind of like balcony wings on each side of the entry ramp). The play itself was really great. The musical numbers, dancing, jokes. Well done. When some of the actors accidentally broke character bc they were laughing at each other, it made me think that this place should offer stand-up comedy shows at night! It's a beautiful venue. We bought tickets for dinner and the show. The food was great. A storm rolled in during the show, so it was a bit chilly sitting outside to eat. But doable. Our first trip to Bear Lake was a hit! Will definitely come back for another show if we come for another visit.

COVID cases are on the rise, and visiting this place was a vivid example as to why. We did not see the lack of precautions until after we bought our tickets, and there are no refunds, so we ended up upgrading to the "fast past," which lets you "skip the line", just to allow us some sense of security, and avoid the high risk situation. Because of the extra cost, it was an awful value- especially considering the quality of the attractions. My 9 year old jump ONCE! Not scary, not entertaining, and the lack of precautions was appalling! Never going back!

Wasn't willing to wait and see if it would worsen to the level of another recent performance that was utterly shocking in its crudeness. While Hale Center Theater and Tuacahn continue to produce/present appropriate content for all ages in Utah, Eccles has lowered their bar over the years, seemingly under the guise of Art. What I find most frustrating is their unwillingness to warn the audience in advance or acknowledge the patrons who exit these productions (often in droves).

Had an opportunity to walk around the NEHMA for around an hour earlier this week. Though its…read morecollection is small, the NEHMA accomplishes a great deal with little space. There were three displays: Sky Above, Earth Below (which featured some beautiful Utah landscapes!); Latinx; and Heart Beats. I was particularly impressed by the latter two. Latinx is a thoughtful exhibit that explores a history of Latinx oppression in the Western World. This was perhaps most evident in Enrique Chagoya's Codex Canibalius Insulae (pseudo-Latin for "Cannibal Island," referencing the Christopher Columbus' written observations of Indigenous societies). A must-see from the museum's permanent collection, the Codex is an instruction manual on how to properly consume America, blending together colonial imagery, comics, and iconic advertisements. Heart Beats is centered on the Beat Generation, artists disillusioned by American materialism and pressure to conform throughout the 1950s and 1960s. I am usually not one for stereotypical modern art (read: art that is, quite literally, a bunch of household items hot-glued together), but the NEHMA did a great job explaining the significance of certain artistic decisions within pieces and placing each piece in a broader historical context. One plaque pointed out a small man climbing a chandelier-like piece that initially appeared haphazardly strewn together, a commentary on the Beat movement's emphasis on individual struggle against society. Another piece consisted of a mutilated bleach bottle crucified on a cross with Buddhist images; its plaque pointed out the irony of a dirty cleaning agent and explained the significance of spiritual exploration to the Beat movement as a whole. Ultimately, I was very appreciative of those who wrote each descriptions and learned a lot. Overall, I had a great visit and, as someone who insists on reading nearly every single museum plaque in the world, I could barely cover the bottom floor in an hour. The upstairs was closed for exhibit installation, but I hope to check it out it next time.

There is also sculpture on the campus grounds. Taking photos inside the museum is not permitted but that's not really a problem because there is no depth to this collection: it's easy to breeze through here in about 30 minutes. However, there is one whimsical piece that rises above it all: Klompen. It's a room of wood clogs suspend from strings. Put a coin into the box and it turns on electronic instrumentation that creates sounds in the clogs. It's like a very elaborate wind chime and it gives a sense of humor to an otherwise dull visit.
