Best health care centre in Barking and Dagenham. Doctor Kalkat is the best doctor from that GP. Reviewed by https://curelab.co.uk/

My GP practice is somewhere else, but I come here for blood tests, and was extremely delighted to…read morefind a well-organised place that did not keep me waiting long. I was in and out within a few minutes! Now I am thinking of registering here to see a doctor, but probably not, as the parking is very minimal and always presents a headache as there is usually nowhere to park.

It can be pretty stressful moving to a new area and trying to work out which of the many GPs are…read moreworth signing up to! I personally had a good look through the NHS choices website, but as most people only bother to review places when they are angry... so it can be scary reading!! It makes it sound like all the doctors in this area are useless with reception staff that have been replaced by trolls - eep! This review is in case other yelpers move to Walthamstow and have a similar difficulty choosing a GP! Addison Road Medical Practice is just around the corner from Walthamstow Village...it is quite a residential area, and there aren't many sign posts nearby, so take a map the first time you attempt to get there! I called ahead to find out the best time to come in and register. I had to fill in quite a few forms...and then needed to set an appointment with a nurse to finish the registration. The Brilliant bits: * I have never been kept waiting for a long time here. There is a sign in screen at the side of the reception. This morning I signed in, and was called to the doctor within 2 minutes...then I was out with a prescription within 10 minutes. * They always keep some appointments free each morning. If you call at 8:30, you can get one pretty easily. The downside of this is that you might need to wait for a non-urgent appointment. * The building seems new-ish and clean * The reception staff are friendly, although have little time to help as they are so busy. * It's NHS, so fixes you up for free (^^) The less-brilliant bits: * You aaaaalways need to hold as the phone line is always busy. * The place seems pretty big, and can be daunting the first time you go here. No-one bothers to instruct you how to get to rooms...so I just wandered around looking at signs until I spot the right consultation room. * There is a board that tells people the doctor is ready to see them...but no announcement. The first time I went there I was not told to sign in/watch the board, so I nearly missed my appointment. * I found my doctor quite unapproachable...He did give me antibiotics for my chesty cough, but his brisk manner made me unwilling to ask him other questions. *sigh*

Walked in yesterday to ask about the price for accupressure. The lady at the counter told me that…read moreit would be 55 GBP and to fill out a form. I filled out the form and the doctor saw me right away. He did a 3-5 minute assessment of my shoulder issue and then had me lay on the table and proceeded to do acupuncture, which is not what I came in for. I decided to let it go and he put a bunch of needles in my shoulder and neck. Then had me roll over and did the same to the front. I will say that I my frozen shoulder did feel 50% better BUT he kept mentioning that he recommended me to take herbs to help for 5 weeks at 70 GBP per week. I declined. Then when I went to leave another person was at the counter with a bunch of herbs already bagged up told me the same that the doctor recommended the herbs for 5 weeks. I said no, and he said that there is a discount so the 5 weeks would cost 50 GBP per (250 GBP) I declined and as I went to leave he told me that the 55 GBP was for the consultation and that the acupuncture was 90 GBP. In the past month I've had acupuncture done in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco . This was more expensive than ANY of these cities. I think that the doctor was good, but the practices of the office leaves much to be desired. None of the other acupuncture places that I went to ever suggested herbs for the muscles in my shoulder. One sold me a muscle balm, which makes more sense. Beware

Fantastic, excellent treatment, lower back and both knees…read more Feeling so much better now, thank you.

I have had to explain simple medical terminology in notes from my private GP to a GP at this surgery. I have just rang to ask for help with regards to ordering my prescription online, explaining that I am abroad and need the prescription ready for when I arrive back. I was not asked for any of my details nor the medication in question - you'd imagine this to be rather important information. The response was: "sorry we don't take requests over the phone" ... yes but can you help me register online? "No, I can't see your screen. Please come into the surgery" .. I am abroad "well when you are back you can put a request in at the surgery"

Waiting times have been cut down, and my GP listens and does seem to take my ailments seriously, no matter how embarrassed I am to speak about them. I've been able to get appointments within a few days (it helps that my office is near enough that I can go during working hours) and the online booking system is pretty decent as well, allowing you to book and cancel appointments online. The only complaint here that I have now is that, if you have to call for any reason whatsoever, the chances are that you will spend a long time on the phone on hold. I suppose that it's inevitable though. The NHS is a free service available to all, and it's only to be expected that it's busy!
