Had dinner at Thai House - University and it delivered exactly what a neighborhood Thai spot should. We ordered the Basil Fried Rice with chicken (added a sunny egg on top), Pad Thai, and the beef skewers. The basil fried rice was the standout. Great wok flavor, rice wasn't soggy, and the egg with crispy edges tied everything together perfectly. I ordered medium spice -- just right for me, although my wife felt the heat immediately. Thai medium is not American medium, so order wisely. The Pad Thai was solid and balanced -- not overly sweet, good noodle texture, generous portion. The beef skewers were tender with nice char and paired well with the peanut sauce. Service was friendly, food came out hot, and portions were generous. Now for my slightly controversial take: in my experience, Asian restaurants are almost never 5-star places. The magic zone is 3.5 to 4 stars. That's where you usually find the most authentic, no-frills, flavor-first cooking. If a place is too polished, something is probably toned down. Thai House sits right in that sweet spot. I normally either call in or place my order thru their website, and today I decided to call in. My staple lunch order is either tofu or chicken Tom Kha with a side of steamed noodles - today I opted for tofu. Called ahead reiterated multiple times TOFU with no spice (Im a huugeer spice wimp) and call disconnected before she quoted ETA pick up time. Soup is normally quick so I headed over after about 10min. Upon arrival I provided my name and Im here to pick up my tofu Tom Kha soup. She smiled and nodded and rung me up - about $13 which was suprising because my meal is normally under $10? Figured inflation hit the coconut soup, too. Thanked her and took my lunch home... to my disappointment found it was seafood after picking out all my sea creatures from my soup I found it was a high price to pay for like 3 octopus(?) rings, 1 shrimp and 1 mussel/clam thing? Im on a strict lunch schedule and didnt have time to pick up something else and disappointed after dumping extra lime juice in the soup to try to eliminate the "fishy" taste, it wasnt good enough to mask the taste. First time in and the inside is beautiful. Im a sucker for art and they have the entrance decorated real nice. Also a sucker for Thai food and this place did not disappoint. I got a Duck Panang and shared mango sticky rice with my friend both were amazing. Pretty good and lovely atmosphere. We don't have any good Thai food in Mooresville, so I tried this spot while down in Charlotte for the day. Shrimp pad Thai was pretty good and I ordered a spice level of 3 out of 5, which was how it turned out. Also, nice that it came with green onion, peanuts, egg and sprouts (peanuts and sprouts on the side, so you can avoid). Warning though, if you're like me and sensitive to garlic, the spice seems to have garlic as a main ingredient - I should have looked this up, but haven't experienced garlic in any of the pad Thai I've had in the past (from an area where I ate it pretty frequently from different restaurants). Will likely come here again in the future and try something different. Def a little bit of a hidden gem, but Yelp reviews pointed me in the right direction! read more

I got the Thai sweet & sour with chicken. It comes fried. Heavily battered. There wasn't any flavor to the chicken or the batter. I ate a piece before constructing my bowl just to see. For my rice I did jasmine. They had a lot of other options but usually jasmine is good with this dish. The pinkish-red sauce is questionable. Zero flavor and tons of onions. Literally it was a container full of onions and a scoop of red bell peppers, cucumbers and canned pineapple chunks. I chose #4 spicy and all I saw was some red pepper flakes sprinkled inside. They need to improve the flavor. It's lacking. Comes with a fried spring roll. I had also ordered the fried spring roll appetizer. Comes with 3 and a dipping sauce. I ordered their noodle soup, and it tasted very very bland. I love Thai food and tried noodle soups from other stores where it's very savory and yummy but this restaurant's just tasted very watered down. I also ordered the pad prik king, that was a lot better. Their mango sticky rice is also pretty good. Their service is not good. I also had a friend who's gone there and had a bad experience so she tipped less because she was uncomfortable and they chased her outside asking for the tip! Very unprofessional. Love the service, ambiance of the place, and I just can't get enough of their iced jasmine tea!! But their pad kee mow was just not what it used to be. They made it with the red pad Thai sauce and I immediately noticed and did not like it. The noodles were all broken up into little pieces. I asked the waitress and she said they make it with the red sauce because everyone prefers it and I would've had to ask for Thai style. They did remake my plate for me which I appreciate but it just wasn't the same as what it used to be. I always come here every year for the authentic taste but probably not anymore. read more

10/10 experience! The food, service, and atmosphere was superb. We started with the vegetable spring rolls, I got the Thai style chicken Pad Thai, and my fiance got the Thai sweet and sour chicken. They were all incredible! So fresh and perfectly prepared! We finished our meal with the Mango sticky rice and I'm blown away, it is so yummy I highly recommend! Thai House is convenient to my workplace, so I was really hoping this restaurant would become a favorite. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and the place was full of people, which is typically a good sign. The cucumber salad was fresh & plentiful but lacked flavor. The steamed potstickers were overcooked and stuck together on the plate. They were flavorless, but the sesame soy sauce was passable. The Tom Kha soup was watery, but had slightly more flavor. I was never asked about spice level for the food. Customers new to Thai food may be satisfied with Thai House, but I will continue to search. read more

Made a quick detour to get something Asian and found this hole in the wall. Soon as we walked in, the smell of the food hits you and you can tell that it is going to be good. It was not too busy, and we were seated quickly. We got chicken satay and golden shrimp appetizers. They were fantastic, very flavorful, well cooked. We got Pad three kings, Pad khing, and Pad kratiam. Each one was the best I have had. Each one was had a flavorful sauce, that was not overpowering, but gave the right amount of heat to the dish. I was so drawn by the food, I forgot to take pictures. We will be eating here again when we visit the area. read more

I got tired of eating the same thing for lunch everyday and then I found this spot. I haven't had Thai food in soooo long and this food was bomb. I've been twice and the first time I had the yellow curry with beef off the lunch special. They bring out the soup of the day first and then your dish comes out after it was very good and I poured the curry sauce over the rice and it was hitting! . On my second visit I had the Pad Thai with shrimp lunch special and that was so filling! I'm an early lunch person and they open at 11am on weekdays, I was there shortly after they opened so it wasn't busy at all. The best Thai in NC imo can be found at any of the Thai House restaurants. You can get pad Thai made Thai style with the brown sauce instead of that sweet orange tamarind. The food is always fresh. The Chef is Thai, so this is as authentic as you can get. read more

I've eaten here a few times. In general, the food is quite good and the service is decent. Today's visit was a little different. The food, as per usual, was good and no complaints there but the service really could be improved. In general, I am a slower eater because of stomach problems and I was eating with family. The broth was good but the staff member prematurely asked if he could take my plate. This also happened with my entrée and those two events I could brush off but at the end, when I fully intended on getting dessert, was hastily given the check without even asking. That in by itself I could've brushed off but everything in combination really presented itself as me being rushed out which I HATE. The pad egg plant was very flavorful, spring rolls were delicious (& crunchy) and the curries had ample veggies (red curry was definitely more flavorful than the green). NOW, to the important part...we all ordered a 2/6 spice level thinking we were playing it safe as it was our first time eating here and it was SO HOT that I felt the need to come on here and write this review. I worked in a Thai restaurant for 2+ years and have traveled Thailand and these dishes arrived bordering "Thai hot" not "mild+". 0/3 of us were able to finish our meals and are quite nervous about later. I've always enjoyed coming here or one of the other Thai House locations in Charlotte for authentic Thai food. The staff is always so friendly when arriving and dining. They always make sure you're taken care of. The first thing I ordered was Pad Kee Maw, Thai Style with shrimp. It's very reminiscent of pad thai due to the rice noodles but something about the flavor is different. On a scale of 1-5 of being spicy, I'd say it's about a 3. Tolerable with a mild kick. The lime garnish helps it give a whole other flavor to it. The other was Kang Masaman with chicken. This curry is interesting in flavor due to it not being spicy but more along the lines of being mild and sour. The flavors were pretty robust and eating it along side rice changes it and helps balances some flavors out. My go to spot for Thai food for sure read more

I was noottt impressed and highly disappointed, lol. I called in a to-go order of lunch shrimp drunken noodles with the "skinny pad Thai noodles instead of the thick ones". I even repeated it once more, for clarification. Basically, the order was incorrect and just not good. They gave me pad Thai with a couple of uncooked bell pepper strips and maybe 5 frozen section shrimp. The noodles were way over cooked...they did not have that springy, Al dente texture that you want in a rice noodle (it's the whole reason I offered the skinny noodles instead of thick). The "pad Thai sauce" was pretty much sweet, orange sauce. It was quite unappetizing. I paid $14.50 for this dish...really, someone should've paid me to eat it. Other photos on their Yelp page didn't look great but I decided to give them a try. This is all I needed to experience...won't be back. read more

Came for lunch with a coworker yesterday who's never had Thai food, as we heard good things about this place. We were seated in the back, a really uncomfy booth. Since he's never had Thai food, it took longer to order, and a wait staff came by every minute, making it even more uncomfortable to decide. I went with the Thursday special, the green chicken with curry and rice. Our soups and drinks came out super quick, didn't care for the soup. I think it had instant ramen noodles in it? The curry really lacked much flavor, even at a spice level of 3. The dragon noodles (pad kee maw) did not look like what I was used to, and doused in oil. So I'm hungry and eating my chicken curry, and when I scoop my chicken halfway through...a HUGE BUG was on the chicken. Antennas and eyes and everything. I so wish I took a photo, but I showed the waitress and she immediately took it away. She offered me a refund or something new to eat, but at that point, my coworker and I were both disgusted that we did not want anything else and he stopped eating his noodle dish. Kudos to them for owning up to it though. What a sad day as I was craving Asian food, and my coworker's first try at Thai food. read more

Recently moved back to charlotte and this was one of my favorite restaurants when I was here. Order: tofu pad thai order received: vegetable pad thai. The lady I spoke to on the phone took my order and read it back to me. If they don't offer tofu then she should have said it on the phone. I picked up my food expecting to have tofu but instead there are vegetables. This restaurant used to make really good food.
