Like most people would attest to, I hate getting my eyes checked. The usage of tropicamide to…read moredilate my eyes and having to plan the entirety of my day around that. PLUS the underlying thoughts of feeling like I'm failing a test when I'm asked to read the last line (which who can ever do this successfully?), well, no one generally feels very good after this.
This time was different.
I woke up early and mentally prepared myself for what was to come while whinging to my still-sleeping partner about the inconvenience my temporary blindness was going to pose on the duration of my day. I reviewed the confirmation email they sent: wear my contacts (which confused the hell out of me, but we'll get to that), bring my glasses, list of medications and my health card.
Lucky for me, this place is around the corner from my house so I was there in the blink of eye (self-referential humour intended.)
The front desk coordinator was incredibly friendly and I knew we were off to a good start having previously experienced less than stellar pre-patient care at former optometrist offices.
It wasn't long before Dr. O popped out and greeted me warmly. My trepidation lifted a little at this point and I followed her to a series of machines in which she explained that they would be doing some scans.
This seemed straightforward enough, but I was still wondering why I had been asked to wear my contacts.
No mind though, I parked it in front of the optomap machine and this is where the fun began. I quickly learned that there would be no dilation of my eyes necessary, in fact, modern science has answered the prayers of so many with the creation of the optomap machine negating the need for tropicamide at all.
In case you're wondering, I feel so incredibly liberated as I type this review right now with my non-blurry vision.
Anyhow, optomap machine does its thing, I take my stuff and resist the urge to jump with glee into Dr. O's office as a free woman.
Dr. O is friendly, incredibly thorough and was patient with my incessant need to know exactly what she's doing, why, and explaining the condition of my eyes in it's entirety. She did a series of tests with my contacts in, contacts out, glasses on, and glasses off and we quickly learned my previous prescription had been *slightly* too strong. Who knew?
When it came to the conclusion of my appointment, she asked if I intended to buy new glasses and contact lenses and I was honest with her and told her I generally try to purchase those things online - this is where I expected things to go sour, but nope, Dr. O being the consummate professional spoke to me from the perspective of a healthcare practitioner and educated me. Feedback which I received with open arms, no resentment what so ever and of course, and now feel more inclined to purchase my lenses and glasses through them.
Modern Eyes Optometry makes every other optometrist's office I've entered appeared antiquated and barbaric in their methods.
Overall, 5/5 experience!
