I was purchasing a home to be closer to my child who is in college, so this was a meaningful and carefully considered decision, not a casual one. I signed a contract in good faith, and within two days the builder lowered prices and began offering incentives on similar properties - we are talking 20-40k price drops. Immediately my confidence in the market and community dropped. When I raised the issue, I was told this was not something they do. During an in-person visit, the conversation felt more open and gave the impression there might be some flexibility, but afterward the communication became noticeably colder and strictly transactional. I never met the builder, and nearly everything was handled through email. There was very little transparency around market changes or effort to build rapport. As someone who works in the insurance industry and deals with people during stressful, high-stakes situations, empathy and clear communication matter to me. This process lacked both. Walking away was not easy. Losing a $3,000 earnest money deposit is not insignificant, especially in this economy and as a single parent supporting a child in college. Ultimately, though, the lack of flexibility and goodwill made it clear this was not the right fit. In hindsight, the loss was painful but worth stepping away from an experience that felt so impersonal. My advice to future buyers is to take the time to truly understand your builder's approach, ask direct questions early, and be clear about what kind of experience you expect. For some buyers, a strictly business approach may be fine. For others, especially first-time buyers, it may feel discouraging. I hope this helps others go into the process with clearer expectations.

Had a roof issue during build, they fixed the issue on the outside but NOT the inside. Very poor craftsmanship. Why would ypu leave water damage inside a new build? Once you report an issue, they quickly ignore you. Calling corporate....OMG, these guys are RUDE! Only want your $$$ and you are pushed aside. As we shopped for hpuses, we thought Bloomfield was one of the best. Buy after buying, I saw a completely different side of the company. They use cheap material, horrible customer service, and cut a lot of corners!

Walk in and you're going to feel like you're going through a time machine. This business is housed in a tiny house from the beginning of last century and furnished with the best office furniture from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today. But don't let that fool you - beauty is only wood-panel-deep, right? This business is also the epitome of family-owned. The head broker is an older woman - you guessed it, a Mrs. Odie Hall - and the office is staffed by her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and a few others. Despite the family affair, they all know a thing or two about their business and have some old-fashioned work ethics to back it up. Mrs. Hall has been in the business since the fifties, and her family-staff are also brokers, agents, and even private home builders and property owners. To say it frank, they can do more for you than buy a house. Build one? Rent one? Random house questions? You got it. Bottom line, these people will tell it to you straight. Old-fashioned country business means plain and simple dealings without any corporate fine print or wily rhetoric to hide the grimy details from you. I've personally heard the employees say things like, "Honestly, with the state of this property and your budget, I wouldn't make an offer." instead of the usual, "Well, there's another couple just like you making an offer as we speak, better hurry!!!!" And that's what I like. Odie Hall Real Estate might not be modern or stream-lined, gussied up with corporate shininess and perfectly groomed clones in starched suits. Some people might call them straight-up country bumpkin and (maybe, if they base their opinion on looks) maybe even unprofessional. And to those people I say this: Your loss. These people know their business and know how to do it well.
