As soon as you walk inside stuff welcomes you with "hello welcome to loves". The place is easy to get in and out of right off I-90, which makes it convenient if you're just looking for a quick stop. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean. The store itself was stocked with the usual road-trip snacks, drinks, and travel gear. They've also got showers and a dog park, which is a nice touch if you're on the road with pets. There's a Carl's Jr. inside for when you want something more filling than gas-station food. Service was decent a couple staff were really friendly, others just kind of going through the motions, but nothing bad. I noticed was the wait times over at the truck care center. As usually, not truckstop fault that people want to take their breaks at the pump If you're rolling in with a rig and need repairs, you might be sitting for a while. For regular travelers though, fuel and quick food are smooth and easy. Overall, solid stop clean, convenient, and plenty of parking. Not perfect, but I'd definitely pull in here again when passing through Ritzville.

I also remember that folks used to say if you wanted good food you ate where the truck drivers did. So, passing Ritzville for the bazillionth time and being hungry, I decided to skip the easy access junk by the Perkins exit and went the extra five minutes to Jake's. Had a French Dip with fries and salad. Salad was just simple garden salad but was fresh and crisp, so that was nice. Good blue cheese too. French dip was very good, bun not soggy like you so often get with French Dips. Fries were cooked well enough and tasted good too. Hate undercooked fries! Service was friendly and old school. Just kinda nostalgic about waitresses who call me "Hun" I guess. Prices were better than Perkins and so is the food. My assessment? Skip the junk by Perkins and go to Jake's.

This is a truck stop diner in a small town just off the main highway. Those three things right…read morethere should tell you what to EXPECT. And it's all about expectations. Come here expecting a five star establishment and you will leave sorely disappointed. That being said, my star deductions are for two things that even a hard hit establishment needs to remain diligent about: 1) Worn down, ratty seats. Old is fine. But several of the seats had rips, tears and duct tape. 2) Worn out silverware, glasses, plates, etc. The water glasses were clean but had obviously gone thru the washer so many times they were pitted and "cloudy". Both of the above just need replacing. Plain and simple. As for the food? Classic truck stop diner fare and plenty of it. Service was very friendly (although we joked that our petite & slim waitress obviously doesn't eat here regularly---ha,ha). Would we stop in here again? Probably not. But not because there was anything wrong with the place. Mostly because I'm trying to watch my diet and although their chicken fried steak smothered in gravy was spot on guuuuuud. I gotta cut back on such things. And how does one say, "No" to stuff like that at a place like Jakes? I'm too weak. So, instead, I'll just avoid it altogether.
