I attempted to negotiate a late checkout only to be told it is their policy that after Noon they will charge you 10GBP per hour after. No negotiating. I understand policy, but with foreign travellers,they should try. The hotel we were at last city, was very accommodating giving us a 3 pm checkout at no charge. And a much nicer hotel at that. It seems some of the staff are a bit uptight and non accommodating.

Breakfast here is wonderful with a superb choice of dishes and excellent service (the variety of juices on offer is in itself impressive), but we've been less impressed with dinner on a couple of occasions - the execution doesn't quite live up to the expectation set by reading the menu. Don't let this put you off though - there are generally good deals to be had here for room, breakfast and dinner packages, and lots to do in the surrounding area.

We are more than used to paying around £80.00 for a nice meal in a good restraunt and often feel a bit let down by pub food. However, today, we entered The Royal Oak at 12.00 and were met by very helpful happy staff who, on request, offered us the menu. We both selected Cottage Pie with peas and carrots which only came to £10.00 for both meals. This ordinarily would lower our expectations dramatically, but how wrong can you be? The Cottage Pie was delightful, large portions and was of equal standard to that of bistros charging eight times as much. I would not hesitate to recommend The Royal Oak, what a lovely surprise. Quality and service are still available in the UK in the most unlikely places. Well done!

We visit with small children - they have some very good family rooms available, and a lovely garden around the back. The highlight for us is the restaurant. I'd highly recommend anyone heading to Swanage to stay in this cute building. Located being the town hall, which is a gorgeous building itself, is a lovely lodge with a handful of neatly presented rooms. We stayed for a couple of nights and the hosts were extremely accommodating, even leaving their Friday night plans to come and meet us on our late arrival. The double room was a decent size, hand a huge comfy bed, a lovely tray of teas and coffees etc, and a neat, compact ensuite that looked brand new and squeaky clean and was full of lots of nice toiletries. The lodge is located on the high street, so very close to restaurants and the seashore. When we arrived late in the evening the host kindly informed us that most of the pubs had closed their kitchens but recommended a couple of nearby places that stay open later. We had a delicious meal in an Italian place he suggested we try - it was lovely. Breakfast was cooked and served in a gorgeous room. The options were great - full English, smoked salmon and eggs or kippers (whole or filler) and eggs. There was also a huge range of nuts, seeds, dried fruit and grains to make your own bespoke muesli as well as a variety of stewed fruits and yoghurts too. It was brilliant! Staying there for two nights meant we got to indulge in both the full English and fish breakfasts. To our delight, they also left a Kilner hat outside our room with freshly made cookies at mid morning too. It was such a nice touch! Everyone staying there was happy and the hosts made an effort to chat to us all and talk about different walks and places we could visit. They really went out of their way to make our stay brilliant. Definitely a rare gem in a crowded B&B market!

They put us all up in triple rooms right at the top.Good we were all together and not annoying other people. It's walkable to town,but if you're in your heels i'd grab a cab. I thought for the price we were paying it was going to be awful, we were on a budget. But i was very pleasantly suprised! My friend returned with her boyfriend month after. She said again it was really good. I would def stay here again the next time i go down. x

I attended a wedding here…read more First when making the booking as per the wedding rate, they confirmed over the telephone, and confirmed different details by e-mail. I had to chase them to get the right details. When booking in, I said I would pay for both rooms. They required a credit card, which was fine, and then asked for another for the other room. I got them to finally understand I was paying for both rooms. I have no problem with hotels employing Eastern European staff, but those on the reception desk must have a good command of the English language. The room was OK, not brilliant, but OK. It is a 3 star after all. The en-suite was quite big, and designed for the disabled. Requested the use of an iron and ironing board, after three requests it finally arrived. The ironing board was stained, and it was only when I was using it to iron my sons new shirt that I realised that the stain was coming through onto the shirt. I was livid. I managed to disguise it as best as I could. Children can only eat in the restaurant before a certain time, and I think it was 5:30 pm, not absolutely sure of the time, but it was difficult for us. So we ate out. The arrangements for the wedding were very good, and the food was fine. Breakfast was something else. Waiting too long, and there was only three tables being used, so not rushed off their feet. One of the waitresses was sullen, and almost dropped the plate in front of you. They were less than attentive. It is not a hotel I'd choose to stay at if visiting Bournemouth again.

This is rather nice. Very very nice…read more I went to a 'do' here, and this is also used by a local school for Balls (as in dancing and wining). We had champagne on the frontsteps and patio. There is a sweeping driveway, which makes for great photo opportunities as the students arrive for their ball. The gardens are exquisite and the entrance to the hotel truly romantic. Except it's not the entrance. You have to drive to the back of the hotel on Grove Road. The 'front' of the hotel overlooks the sea. This hotel is very tasteful with out being overly grand. I'd love to stay there sometime.
