What's not to love about this place? An artist heaven. Was once a printing press letter writing factory but after they moved it was taken over by artist. Now it has galleries and shops. Very nice place. read more

Van der Linde is one of these unremarkable shops that you hardly notice until you need something…read morespecific stationery-like. Like a foam board. Don't get mislead by the shop front, this place is huge! And it's not a stationery store (like I thought because of the display) but an artist supply (like it says on the plaque). But they've also got stationery. Only when you enter and walk around you notice how big this shop is and their assortment is HU-MUN-GOUS! I haven't seen so many different paint / acrylic brands in all my life so far. I guess Van der Linde basically has got everything that you may ever need for painting (thousands of paint tubes and brushes) or being creative with paper whatsoever. They have more different articles than you can even imagine. All kinds of paper colours and sizes, sketch blocks, maps, foam boards, books about relevant topics, a vast stationery assortment, spray, easels, and and and. It's a joy to visit even if you don't need anything. I guess you'll still walk out with a bag.

Their notebook selection is also amazing, you can find pretty much any kind of artistic (plain sheets, these one with black covers - wired or not -, some other brands like Moleskine, etc) or note taking books (there was a day I saw a music sheet notebook too, so there's a lot of options) in different sizes. Some people say things are expensive there, but if you compare to some online stores in the Netherlands, it's the same price (at least for some calligraphy supplies; can't say about the rest). But you can also find "basic"/common stuff, like drawing pencils, erasers, rulers, these kind of things. If you're more into painting and crafts, you will find a lot of options in the main floor. They also have nice classy envelopes,.

You have to visit their website and make an advance booking, so be sure to do that as soon as you have your Amsterdam dates. You will also need to read the instructions very carefully since they do not allow babies and bags and you will not be let in if you don't follow the directions to the letter. Entrance is free and the house and decorations and artwork and curiosities are absolutely fascinating. You'll need to read up on the family history and get more detail about why this little museum exists and how powerful the history of this family in Amsterdam has been. It's also a bit out of the way to find, so make sure you arrive a bit early so that you're on time and don't miss the tour. You will not be disappointed if you can make it.
