That shot with the two beaches either side of a…read morenarrow road down the middle, from high up, generally with someone's big goofy face in the front looking starry-eyed and a bit windblown? Yep, that's taken from the neck. Some might say from the neck up... Take the Truganini steps up to the Neck Lookout for some breathtaking 360° views of the isthmus, the island and beyond. The climb is an effort (over 200 steps up!) but the reward far surpasses the effort required. Any kind of weather, any time of day and it's a stunner. Just blissful. The last time I was up there I literally watched three different groups of rain clouds all band together and come at me and I was still utterly delighted (Tasmanian rain ain't too tough). A bit wet, but a grin from ear to ear. At dusk you may be lucky to spot fairy penguins flocking back to their homes from the viewing platform over the beach on the far side, but if you're only over for a day trip you'll likely miss out as the last ferry back is before sundown. Mad for penguins? Better sort out some overnight accommodation. Likely worth it, I'll be honest.

On my last day in Hobart, I decided to walk around town. I walked towards Battery Point and then…read moredown to Sandy Bay towards the waterfront. Upon reaching the water, I encountered Errol Flynn Reserve. This is a park named after the old Hollywood actor who was born and grew up in the area. Walking around the park, you will see a 1909 sign. I believe the 1909 signifies the birth year that Flynn was born. The park is located next to the Sandy Bay Rowing Club. It is fronted by the Derwent River and you can see many boats on the water in the distance here. As it is by the water, the park is a mix of grass and sand. Though the sand is a bit dirty looking, so it isn't an ideal beach spot. But it seems like a fine place for you to dip your feet in the water. This spot also seems like a good place for dog walking as it is low-key and relatively quiet here. If you are looking for a chill place to walk around by the Derwent, this park is a good spot. It has a great view of the water and surrounding areas.

The unique nomenclature of Doo town however lifted our spirits as did the dramatic features of Devils kitchen and the Tasman arch.

Pirates Bay This…read moreexpansive beach has pristine sands and stunning ocean views. The bay's unspoiled beauty is perfect for a peaceful walk or simply soaking in the scenery and sunshine. A bit chilly and windy but worth it. The water reflects the most vibrant shades of blue. Eaglehawk Neck The narrow isthmus that connects the Tasman Peninsula to the mainland is steeped in history. This is where the convicts tried to escape Port Arthur. To counteract escapees, malicious dogs were placed across Eaglehawk Neck.

Honeymoon Bay in Freycinet National Park is such great spot. It's within Tasmania's stunning…read morenational park system and is a little slice of paradise that feels almost too beautiful to be real. The highlight is undoubtedly the clear and bright teal water. I couldn't believe the color of the water. This spot is the ultimate lunch spot. We packed simple sandwiches and ate amongst the begging seagulls. We sat on some of the smooth rocks and soaked in the serene atmosphere. The weather was perfect--crisp and sunny.

Wineglass Bay is within Tasmania's Freycinet National Park and is one of Australia's most iconic…read moredestinations. Cruise ships swing through Ho see it. Named for its unique crescent-shaped shoreline, the bay's curve resembles the rim of a wineglass when viewed from above. Its name, however, comes from a darker past. In the 19th century, the bay was used for whaling, and the waters would turn red, completing the "wineglass" imagery. Thankfully, today, it is just a beautiful beach. Getting to Wineglass Bay is an adventure in itself. The hike begins at the national park's entrance and offers a challenging uphill hike. The first section leads to the Wineglass Bay Lookout, where you're rewarded with views of the turquoise waters. Worth the hourish hike.

There are a few way to get to this amazing, isolated beach: 1. Hike down from the wineglass bay lookout-a great and long walk (especially going back up likee 1000 stairs) 2. Take a water taxi from Coles Bay town to Hazard beach with Freycinet adventures then cross the isthmus on the largely flat trail (35 min leisurely walk) over to the beach 3. Hike down, water taxi back from Hazard beach-must book a specific time in advance We did #2 and really enjoyed our time. Had a 9 am pick up, arrived Hazard B at 9:30-got to Wineglass B a bit after 10-walked halfway down the huge beach-ate a snack, enjoyed the sun-walked back to Hazard B-walked a good bit of that even longer beach then hitched our ride back. Cost around $Aud 60 pp Round trip.
