I have historically not been a barber shop kind of guy. I actually had a traumatic experience at…read moreone as a kid and didn't return to one for many years. (if you read my other reviews you will see that I have a long list of issues with hair cuts) I don't remember why I first went to Magic Razor. I'm sure it was some last minute haircut need for some important event, but I am a fan now. There are two barbers in the shop, but Terry is the only one who has cut my hair (mostly because he is the only one that works Saturdays). For $12 I get a better cut than I have at salons where I have paid over $30. He is efficient and very meticulous. He is the only haircare professional who cuts my eyebrows (and God knows they need this occasionally). He also does a hot shave of the back of your neck. I don't think I have ever went to someone who could consistently cut my hair the exact same way every time. It is crazy. There is always a crowd of guys waiting and many of them have been going here for years and years. My only gripe is their Saturday hours. Their posted hours are till 2 or 3, but they are rarely open past 12. I totally understand that when the traffic dies down, they close the shop. I would just recommend that they update the sign to reflect this.

Convenience. Location. Friendly. Old style shop. Relaxed…read more Enjoyable conversation as Scott cut my hair. Finished cut was exactly as I asked. I'll definitely use Magic Razor and Scott, as my regular stop.

Sam and I discuseed the the haircut and I like his calm and exposed way of explaining and how he could work something out of my beard and bald head. Knowing that my Adonis period is long overdue, I admit I'm very satisfied with the result, so I went back and book new appointments. The result is nice to see, still women are not turning immediately their head, but I guess it has something to do with my age and not with the haircut. Sam is not only a professional, he is an artist, calm and with the eye of the master controlling constantly his work. Working constantly, he stil is able to show some empathy, talking about his homecountry, hair fashion in the Middle East, with the Druze, Greek, Cyprus, etc. No political statements, just historical chatting, no pressure and also good listening. The salon is nice and clean, proper equipment, each his own set. The barbershop runs smoothly without a hair in the butter. As long as I'm in St Louis and receives the same service, Sam will see me back.

Okay, so you can't go back to the 1950s for obvious reasons…read more The question is why would you want to? The easy answer for men... BARBER SHOPS! Not "Beauty Salons", not "Beautician Schools", not "Hair Sylists". Just plain old ordinary Barber Shops. You know the place you go to see the guys get together and just chew the fat while getting yourself a needed cleanup for your mop top. Men don't need these hot towel facials, or full shampoos with 'dandelion' cream (or whatever they put in)... sure it's nice to be pampered a little by the ladies and the Salons (If they do.. but that's a story for later I suppose and will explain why a Male Hair salon has to go ABOVE and beyond for a decent rating from me...). Anyway, getting myself sidetracked here. Right off the main street on South Florissant north of 270. Easy to get to location, plenty of parking space around the building, (but remember the Barber's rule.. Sunday or Monday, don't come by, cause we won't be there :) Anyway. Ron's place is about what you expect for a three-barber shop. Well lit. the full array of tools. even an old school vending machine (which i forgot to test or even photograph) . with a small TV off to the side playing the usual Over the Airwaves tv show on the western channel (come on, as a kid, you always wanted had Lone Ranger or Rifleman, or Gunsmoke playing, right?) And off to the side a cabinet of various St. Louis school high school memorabilia (Hey that's what you want! It's a shop for making young adults presentable for the real world and what better way than by including the local high schools in the layout?) As for the cut. smooth , professional, and just all around well done as expected. Prices have gone up naturally in the economy, about $21 (for a standard men's cut.). but still in today's day and age, STILL a bargain compared to the "Men's Salons". Two notes : 1) Cash only business (although you can find an ATM in the liquor store next door) and 2) Tips are appreciated! (and even with tips It's still cheaper than that SALON FOR MEN!)
