The…read moreBest Western was by far the least sketchy place to stay here, as a lot of the other lodging we looked at were older motels. At least Best Western does have the name behind it. They have one EV plug in here that is free to use but slower for charging. The guy that checked us into the hotel didn't really seem all there. This hotel is dog friendly and we had 2 pooches with us. It seems like they put most of the dogs on the first floor. The lobby had a microwave out there for common use and free coffee was laid out here in the morning. They have a restaurant here called Bishop's Landing that does all meals. As for the room, it was comfortable. It definitely could have been cleaner. There were rogue hairs everywhere in the bathroom, particularly the shower. For example, there were ones under the bathmat that waved hello as the water ran under it. The hotel is located right next to the marina and there are paths that you can take for a scenic stroll at sunset. Not the best stay but for one night, this would probably still be my go to place to stay in Owen Sound.

It isn't related to the other "Landing" restaurants that are around Toronto. There is a patio that looks out onto the marina. It's very lovely but we were afraid of bugs so we stayed inside. We noticed that another group that was originally outside moved in after it got dark. You can catch the sunset here though, very scenic! Inside they have normal tables and ones with loungey leather chairs. You tend to sink into the latter so it makes it a little harder to eat unless you're sitting right at the edge of the table. These would be great if you're just having a drink. Service was good. The waitress checked in on us a few times and our waters were always topped off. The food was the part that fell a bit short. The maple pork medallions were the best thing at the table. I ordered a pound of wings which is supposed to be an appetizer but was quite filling for me. Interestingly enough, I had wings earlier that day and this 1 pound of wings had more wings than the other place, so at least you got a lot more in quantity. In terms of quality, I had a garlic parmesean sauce. The bottom of the dish was almost all oil - I have to assume that this is from the parm oil. It almost looked like butter but didn't taste like it. The wings were pretty dry inside and out. I also found a tiny tiny fly mixed in with the cheese. Not sure if it was from the patio door being opened so frequently. My friend was also disappointed in the chicken pasta. It was pretty bland and she had to salt it a lot to no avail. We wanted to try the dessert to see if the meal could be salvaged. We ordered the caramel chocolate cake. This cake had a hint of soap taste to me. My friends liked it though. If you want something a little different than a chain restaurant, this wasn't bad. It wasn't as nice as other hotel restaurants but it was fine for a utility meal.

After playing a round of golf, my family decided to eat here and take my dad out for Father's day, For starters, we got the parmesan fries. If I were to describe the perfect fry, this would be it. These fries were incredibly crispy and seasoned well with garlic and parmesan. Honestly, I just really enjoyed the texture and quality of the fry. It was deep fried PERFECTLY. I could probably finish 3 bowls of these in one sitting. For mains, I got the salmon feature they had. It came with a thick, sweet glaze along with potatoes and carrots and seared on a pan. This was probably the best salmon I have had from a restaurant in a while. The glaze was very delicious and along with the perfectly cooked salmon it was an easy 5/5. I feel that restaurants always tend to overcooked their salmon, but this was perfectly golden, crisp on both sides while not being too cooked in the centre. So glad I got the salmon. The other mains was the Hawaiian Skewer and New York strip special. I'd say the meat quality from both dishes was very good, but taste wise, it was okay. The skewer was described as marinated in soy sauce, but it tasted more like a blend of herbs. Now I know the food here is expensive, but with the quality of the dishes I'd say it's worth it.
