Using my sat nav just to try find a grocery shop and I passed budgens and as I was trying to find a safe place to turn around I happen to find Tesco which to my delight had a big car park which was sign posted very well! So I got a great spot next to the entrance and at first grabbed a basket as I knew this was a small store but just going down one aisle I then decided I needed a trolley as there was more items you can get through this store! I ended up doing my whole weekend shopping which was great for me as I didn't have to venture anywhere else and the queues for the till was very short and staff were very friendly!

They have a rather small selection of ready-to-go meals, and I think they only get one delivery of pastries per day. But they're open early, they're open late, and their prices are good, in spite of being the only food option for the numerous hotels and upscale residential developments that have gone up nearby. Also, English grocery stores aren't laid out the same. For example cookies might be in multiple locations rather than one designated "cookie aisle." Also it was interesting because you had to pay for a shopping cart. They did have a limited number of hand baskets. If they ran out of hand baskets, people would use the bags they brought and add there items into the bags. Then remove them when they got to the counter. It was nice because there weren't long lines, and they had a lot more self-serve kiosks than my local American grocery store.

Item selection for things (particularly vegetables and fruits) seems a little sparse. But admittedly I'm a tourist so perhaps that's expected for the area, climate, and time of year. Checkout is slightly disorganized (again, probably a "tourist ignorance" thing). Recyclable bags are available for pickup on a rail while walking through self-checkout. There's an automated gate that requires a receipt barcode to be scanned before exit is permitted. Ultimately I think this is a store that's 90% grocery store and 10% variety store. I had visited several locations while in London and they are all laid out roughly the same, making it easy to find what you need. They are slightly cheaper than posh smaller markets, but it is a standard chain grocery store, so quality is a little less for meat, fruit, veggies, etc. There are quite a few around London and its outskirts, so never had an issue while visiting, which is great. All and all, I overall was quite happy with my visits.

Whether I want to make myself a little cheese and charcuterie plate, or some soup, salad or a nice curry, Tesco has it all. They have wine, beer and cider too, much less expensive than hotel room service! And Tesco is always my go to stop for chocolate and gummy candy to bring back to the states. They have a bigger selection than the Sainsbury's Local that is nearby, and much cheaper than buying at the airport.

A huge organic selection. A whole shelf of tea.
