I wasn't spoilt for choice with an enormity of local and fresh produce and products from local traders including: Cakes/confectionary, Fresh Meat and auction, Plants and Flowers, Tools and Hardware, Bedding, Sportswear, Ladies/mens/childrens clothing, Electrical goods, Household products, Bread, Pies, eggs, CD's & books, Furniture, Jewellery and Repairs, Pet food/toys/accessories, Greetings cards, Footwear, Wool, Watches, Protective clothing, bags, Fishmonger, Carpets, Fruit & Veg, phone accessories, cosmetics and more. It was the cakes and fishmongers that did it for me! The prices are pretty good and its nice not to be in a supermarket. The market takes place every Friday throughout the year from 9.00am to 17.00pm.

Also on a friday you get all the extra food stalls mainly consisting of fruit and veg, then there is also the big meat trailor where you can definately pick up some good deals - however they don't seem to sell meats in small quantities even so still very good. Monday seems to be half the size of a friday - still worth a look if your local maybe not if you have to travel far - it really is pot luck on a monday. Saturday there is absolutely everything there that nobody would want unless you where looking for something in particular, however, this is the busiest day for the market so be warned - if you have no patience don't go its packed and everybody walks around at snail pace. It really handy to get too as the local train and bus stations are within walking distance.

The store inside isn't as modern as other Sainsbury's Local stores in city centres or even railway stations (compare to Manchester Piccadilly), but it gets the job done... well sort of. Selection of most items was small, especially the Free From section which was pretty much non-existent. Staff around the store didn't seem too helpful, I was told they didn't have a particular item, they didn't make as much effort as other stores have in the past to help me find it, taking one glance and just saying no, which was disappointing on both levels of service and stock. Location wise it is convenient if you are getting the train to get something for your journey or to take home, while not being the nicest convenience store in terms of overall feel and stock apart from that, considering service factors too which let the store down, I feel only a two-star rating saves it, which is mainly for providing a basic level of services to serve Liverpool Central station.

What is really good in Central Station Sainsburys is the surprising range of fresh food which amongst the fast food options give you a real choice to be healthy and cook up your evening repast from scratch. When I am feeling a bit inspired I will do just that with my favourite feasts. I confess there are times when the comfort of convenience food is just too tempting and a microwave cannelloni and a prepared salad is about as adventurous as I can manage. There are many manifestations of convenience and we all recognize that if we were perfect people with a thought and a plan perhaps stops like a Sainsburys at a station would have short and inglorious lives. Good news for Sainsburys though that, for me at least, no such carefully thought out planning has yet emerged.

There's the usual wide range…read moreof food on offer, and it's fairly competitively priced; and then there are all the usual Tesco extras -- clothes, electrical goods, books, DVDs etc etc. The staff are friendly (I met some of them in the Staff Only area a while back and they were all very pleasant). The only drawback is that the place is not very car-friendly: some parts of the car park are a long way from the front door, and driving out of the place can take an age at peak times (the traffic lights seem to have it in for Tesco customers). But all in all, a good place to shop if you don't mind adding to Tesco's multi-billion profits.

This store is a fairly small size, as is most Marks and Spencer Simply Food stores, such as branches closer to me in Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria train stations. The staff didn't seem too friendly on my visit, yet the store seemed a little busier, perhaps it could have been down to the time of my visit, being slightly late on a weekday, where staff might be tired from rush-hour and wanting to go home from work, but still this isn't an excuse for service to lack. The selection was average, it wasn't fantastic but it wasn't bad either. Due to the overall feel of the store being slightly poor for me, and other issues mentioned I don't feel this store deserves a high rating, but due to the fact of the quality of some products sold here, despite the slightly higher price-tag, it makes it one of the better places to get quick food in the Train Station to take on a train with you, it is also worth noting this is a train station without brands such as Starbucks, with the only main coffee shop being a stand from Caffe Nero, so I feel this store deserves a two-star rating.

As I said, it's perfect if you've got off the train and can't be bothered cooking anything from fresh when you get home, as it's all here. The prices are slightly over average for what you'd pay in a supermarket, but this is reflected in the quality of the food. The shop always has a few tills open to avoid queues for those that are rushing to catch a train.

Not a bad store to visit if you're in a rush but the selection is much more limited compared to the Superstore in the One, or Express location on Lord Street which are both a short walk away. 3*

I do think access as a pedestrian into this store is a little difficult as there's only one gap allowing open access, which can be difficult in the dark, so do try to attend in a car if you can as I did struggle approaching from towards Sainsbury's. The store is clean, pretty modern and they had a good selection of most products. They even had a Costa Coffee machine which worked, on many trips to different ASDA stores lately the coffee machines have either been off-brand or turned off, so it was good that they're still offering that service here. The ASDA Parcel returns service is actually in a much bigger, more secure part of the store, I hated using this in the past as many of them tend to be in the foyer as you go into the store and it is so easy for someone to steal a parcel, but it's much more secure here, allowing you to return items to brands such as ASOS and Ellis Brigham with your mind at ease. There is also a Coinstar machine. 4* - Very good ASDA store but always worthwhile visiting Sainsbury's which is a couple of minutes away which has some other different/good food items, and a very good home range which this store can't compete with.
