My primary objective when I stopped at the Morrisons in Alness on Tuesday 9 July 2019 was to see if…read moreI could find some laundry detergent. I was on a 17 consecutive-day heritage travel trip to Scotland and did not bring clothes cleaning items. I looked at the offerings and did not find any travel size, so I went with some food items instead. They had both in-house prepared food offerings as well as packaged brands. The parking lot was large and I sat in my car eating my food. No one seemed to mind. I also withdrew money at an ATM on the front of the building, conversion was covered at withdrawal and I had no issues with the withdrawal processing. Pricing was good, workers were kind, and the store easy to navigate. The overall feel of the place reminded me of a grocery store we have in Washington State (United States of America) called Haggen. It was also a grey day on my visit, which added to the overall feeling of home as I come from a place with lots of cloudy weather as well.

We've been to M&S several times before and always liked the quality - even though a bit pricey sometimes. This one here is medium sized in the middle of Elgin. Fruit, veggy and meat selection is good and they had some really good dry-aged scottish Steaks. Nice cheese plates too for very affordable prices. The rest of the food section was a bit small. Yes, they got everything you need, but not much to choose from - not that much variety. The wine section was a bit of a let-down. Not that much choice and mostly french wines - which i'm not that much into (you can get similar or better quality wines from other countries for less, but that's just my opinion). Staff here was very friendly and helpful. All in all still a good choice, especially for the meat section. But given the choice - I'll go to Tesco again next time (yes...laugh all you want).

It's not set up like American grocery stores for sure. No additional packaging is one thing you won't miss over here! The use of wrapping everything in plastic is a no go!! A feature we as ambassadors of the earth need to adopt. It's such an easy habit to pick up on. The food is different here. You can still find junk food to eat for that late night snack. Yay, another good Tesco…read more Tesco, always our choice for groceries on this Road Trip. We were staying a few miles away with no food around. So we went to this branch to get some sandwiches, b'fast for the next day, wine and desserts. This one is one of the bigger branches. Got all we looked for and then some. Found some really good sandwiches - a bit more expensive - but worth it: It's from the Tesco finest - line. New York Deli Black Pepper Pastrami. Good stuff! Our choice of wine made us happy - as usual. For 7-10£ a bottle you really can get an enjoyable bottle.

They also have snacks and refreshments, drinks, crisps/sweeties, and newspapers/magazines. there is also essentials available like sausages and bacon, milk and bread, buscuits and suck like, as well as toiletries. The staff are really nice, polite, and if there is any problems they will help in any way possible. I used this petrol station for my lunch, basically because the main store itself is over run with school children and is already busy with customers so would take forever, and it was quicker to go here than to walk into town. They have filled sandwiches and pies, sausage rolls etc on offer. The only downside to the petrol station is its entrace, when it is busy it's very busy and sometimes the cars are queued up on the entrance to the main shop, which then frustrates shoppers as well as those wanting to buy petrol. Above all though a very convenient little petrol station.
