There is not much one can say about a petrol station, but I have given this one five stars for…read moreseveral reasons: it is conveniently located north on a road leading from the city centre to the A14 and the Fens, which just happens to be my most direct route to and from work. It is accessible from both side of the road, yet there is rarely more than a couple of cars in the queue ahead of you. It has a shop, staffed by polite shop assistants, with the usual drinks, snacks and newspapers which by some miracle don't seem to run out until quite late in the day, even at weekends. Most importantly, charges at least a penny less per litre of petrol than any other in the area, including the supermarkets' stations - the fact that all the local taxis use it to fill up should be enough evidence for it being good value!

On both occasions we were able to pick up some 'yellow-ticket' discounts (of food close to its sell-by or display-until date), so it could be a good place to go for bargain-hunters. The car park is a little confusing in its layout but there seemed to be plenty of space; the layout of the store was much better as we were quickly able to find what we wanted. The service we got was friendly too. All in all this seemed like a very reasonable branch of Sainsbury's.

It worked for me - particularly as I didn't fancy running out of petrol on the hellish A14 road, which must qualify as one of the least pleasant in the UK, thanks to the endless stream of heavy lorries travelling its unpleasantly narrow lanes, going from Harwich and Felixstowe to the Midlands and North of England. Still, stopping here was a few minutes of welcome respite, and meant I made it to my destination without incident. It has a shop selling newspapers, magazines, a few motoring items and a small range of snacks and drinks. Efficient staff, too.

A little petrol station tucked away just off the A11, despite being a regular there for two years…read moreI've never struck up any kind of conversation with the staff who are almost always grumpy and quite often on their mobile phone while serving customers. Rubbish coffee too, and they are usually 2p a litre more expensive than the other shell garages nearby. I only go there for the convenience and to pick up a newspaper.
