It worked for me - particularly as I didn't fancy running out of petrol on the hellish A14 road, which must qualify as one of the least pleasant in the UK, thanks to the endless stream of heavy lorries travelling its unpleasantly narrow lanes, going from Harwich and Felixstowe to the Midlands and North of England. Still, stopping here was a few minutes of welcome respite, and meant I made it to my destination without incident. It has a shop selling newspapers, magazines, a few motoring items and a small range of snacks and drinks. Efficient staff, too.

They also have a new WH Smiths and a Sleep Inn attached. There is lots of parking and it also has the usual toilet facilities and games area. There is plenty of seating in the centre where you can eat. All the food places and shops are around the edge. You collect what you require (each person could have something different), then sit in the middle and eat together. They also have a wi-fi point available. They also have a shell petrol station, but you will find this is a few pence more expensive than if you go off motorway.

Usually you can just rock up, but it is worth giving them a ring to discuss what you need done. The lads there are all knowledgeable and happy to discuss alternatives (budget tyres vs. more expensive ones). They have a waiting room with an OK coffee machine and a TV, but it's just a five minute walk to the Old Town proper where one can get a coffee in a wide variety of cafes or pubs. There is a lot of competition for this kind of service in Stevenage. This probably keeps all the firms honest. I prefer to use Lincoln's because, as far as I know, it's a locally-owned and managed business.

I must admit that I mainly started using them because they were near enough for me to walk to, but now I would not get my car serviced or repaired anywhere else. Richard runs a very professional team. My car always comes back working fine. They have all the latest diagnostic equipment that allows them to clear error codes and generally do a more thorough job than the main dealers. On the odd occasion when a very specialist tool is required they are able to use their contacts to sort out the problem without requiring me to have to bother going to the main dealer myself. They are hidden away on the Nup End industrial estate, map as above.
