Persepolis - Crispy halloumi with sesame and honey

Their signature offering is the "Persepolis Feasting Menu," which came with multiple courses to share. There's no set menu and the dishes offered change by the day, so there's always an element of surprise! We were started with ramekins of a sweet potato soup with yogurt, but my favorite course was the meze platter, which came with pasta salad, falafels, sweet potato fritters, pickles, a cottage cheese dip, tahini, and hummus with cheese puffs sticking out! The mezes were served with pita bread slices, which were perfect for eating with the dips. The next three dishes were amazing as well: crispy halloumi with sesame and honey; fattet, or pita chips with spinach, chickpeas, and tahini; and a creative dish of chips, melted cheese, cauliflower, mushrooms, tomato, and onion, all seasoned with a yellow spice mixture. Finally, the last two dishes were pakora, or battered mixed vegetables (onion, cauliflower, pickles) served with saffron and dill aiolis on the side; and a final platter of rice, cucumber/onion/tomato salad, a red kidney bean stew, and a potato stew. While decent, the fried vegetables were on the greasy side, and the stews had an overly sweet flavor, and I was more impressed with the earlier courses. Finally came a colorful platter of dessert, which included ice cream topped with rose syrup; two different types of baklava; a cream-filled cake roll; jalebis; Turkish delight; cookie sandwiches; dates; and sliced strawberries/oranges. Everything we had here was flavorful, delicious, creative, and beautifully-presented, and enjoying the Middle Eastern hospitality was a great experience!

Still my fave veg restaurant, for the tasty food, the huge portion sizes and cheap prices. But even this impatient native New Yorker is more then happy to deal. The avo smoothie is incredibly rich and whilst I thought the rose taste was a bit overpowering at this visit (my husband said it tasted like soap haha), I overall still loved it. My husband's date smoothie on the other hand was sadly underwhelming. My spiced broccoli soup was thick and creamy and full of flavour. I was so stuffed I regretted ordering the fried plaintains and eggs on bread as my main so my husband ended up eating it haha. But as I've ordered this before, I know how great it is. And he agreed, as it's slightly spicy and full of flavour. His main dish sadly again was bland: similar to a stir fry of veg and bread. He did enjoy the sahlep for takeaway though.

(If your answer is yes, I'll probably try to manipulate your agreeableness, asking for back rubs and gourmet meals, so watch out). Well, would you? They guys who work at this Superway would (after a bit of nudging, and no, I'm not asking them for the aforementioned things). You might think that sparkly hat ordeal is made up considering I say plenty of ridiculous things in my reviews. It's not.. I promise. I leave near by this place and I'm always in and out like a turtle and his shell when he's really scared then really relaxed then really scared then really relaaa.... right so. I go in here a lot. The guys who work here are always nice and put up with any hilarious shenanigans silly drunk Australians through their way. My roommate once broke a jar of salsa on the floor there when she knocked it with her bag, and the guys in the shop cleaned it up and told her not to worry about it. They could have gotten mad, but they did not. They could have danced a fiery tango with the broom, but they did not. This store also has a nice selection of humus, in case you wanted to know. It's basically an average grocery I suppose, but it holds a fondness in my heart. You can also top up your Oyster here. Now if that's not the cat's pajamas, I don't know what is

Crispy rice and pea chips are my new favourite snack food, and Black Tower wine has also found itself high on my list of things that I seek when I come to the store. I also love the Innocent-brand green juices. I tried the limoncello dessert as well, but it was a little sweet for my taste. The selection is decent, as are the prices, and they have quite a few interesting things that we don't have back in the States: like Jack and Coke or gin cocktails. Together. In one can. Brilliant.

I went here on boxing day around 5.30pm and got myself some marked down ready made meals (how difficult is it to find an authentic Cornish pie in any of the pubs in London. They are all selling gourmet burgers, Mexican food or Japanese food). Options for ready made meals include English pies (get the one with steak and ale), soups, curry chicken and rice, asian noodles and salads. I even found marked down crumbed sole fillets. Yum. I searched and searched for some rye, sourdough, or ciabatta bread and came across nothing I liked. My options included thick wholemeal bread or rye bread. May be I'm seriously spoilt in Australia and more so after enjoying delicious sourdough bread in la clusaz, that I can't bring myself to eat anything sub par. This place is seriously lacking baked goods options. What is the point of being open 24/7 if you don't restock your aisles? Couldn't even find eggs. No breakfast for me. :( Did manage to get a bag of english royal gala apples - can't wait to find out how different they are from Australian royal gala apples. :) There are a few self check out counters and fewer check out counters with attendants. You can stock up on meat, veggies and fruits here and of course frozen desserts. Bags cost 5p a piece.
