I would have thought a Waitrose Supermarket would have been better located here, as they're owned by John Lewis, it seems strange John Lewis letting a rival open up right next to them in the same building. It is fairly easy to get around the store, and the selection is good in most areas, although there were some notable issues. I did find the "Meal Deal" section consisting of bottled drinks, sandwiches, snacks etc being at the back of the store to be really annoying, and by the time I got there the section was depleted and out of stock of almost everything which is poor show. Sainsbury's Smartshop doesn't seem to work too well in this store due to the poor mobile signal, in some areas, I didn't have a service at all. Sainsbury's Smartshop is the feature which allows you to scan and bag items as you walk around the store before heading to the self-checkout to finish up. There is a Sainsbury's Cafe here, which is a dying breed now with Sainsbury's slowly phasing them across the store network. 3* - OK, it's a large Sainsbury's, fixing the signal issue and ensuring a good product selection in all areas are immediate improvements.

An enormous Sainsburys with a café, Argos and a massive selection of products.read more

Waitrose & Partners at Cheadle Hulme is a pretty good supermarket. While it is rather pricey, for…read moreboth branded and own-branded goods, for no good reason, it's still a rather nice store. PRO TIP: You can use the Waitrose Scan, Pay and Go, mobile app (or handheld scanners) to scan your shopping as you're going around the store, you can also claim one free coffee per day with your Waitrose card, using the coffee machine at the front of the store - BUT you must bring your own cup! From the parking lot to the store, it's fairly easy to navigate and get around the store, if using public transportation, you have Cheadle Hulme train station, opposite the supermarket, which is useful. The checkout process is also easy, with a large number of both manned and self-service checkouts. The selection in the store seems good, with most areas of the store from fresh fruit and vegetables, to snacks, dairy and toiletries always seems to be pretty good, they also have a nice Free From selection here, compared to the other major supermarkets. Not the largest Waitrose store, but still the selection is generally pretty good, and the staff are friendly, but far too expensive to do a regular weekly shop, with some items costing a good 20-25% more than rival supermarkets. 4*

I've gotta say that the best description that fits my wife and myself is 'foodies on a budget' - so…read morewhile we do our usual weekly shop at Aldi (where you can get some seriously good stuff), we also hit Waitrose at least once a week to pick up other 'essential' ingredients that you probably wouldn't find in most run of the mill supermarkets. On this occasion we bought perfectly ripe papaya, sushi rice, sesame oil, hot sauce, Canadian bread flour and Cartmel sticky toffee pudding amongst other items - quite an eclectic list but all stuff we really needed in to cook with. The staff are always friendly here and go the extra mile in finding stuff in the back, you get free coffee if you're a Waitrose card holder and a free newspaper at the weekend if you spend more than £10 - £5 in the week (not a bad deal at all!) Overall an always pleasant shopping experience, we could just do with a bit more cash to really indulge ourselves here each visit :-)
