So far My son and I are loving this school. I'm going to start off with the Cons because I honestly…read moredon't have many. The neighborhood that the school is in has terrible roads. Most of the houses in the immediate area are French Style New Orleans homes so it's really cute. Just be aware that if you drive a couple blocks down in the wrong direction the roads will start tearing apart and scenery will change. I've told a few people my son will be attending this school and most ppl applaud the news. I hear great feedback from other parents of a mix of different races and I've only heard good things about them. During orientation they stressed about how they are a school who welcomes families of different cultures and students who have differences. And I feel like they mean it. During orientation one of the teachers was giving a story about how much they care about their students and how racism is around us so much and the students who attend this school will learn how to accept one another and learn and understand the different cultures of different races and learn to love one another. The lady was in tears at the end of her speech and I just knew she meant every word of it. We did apply for a scholarship to attend the school, we applied rather early and we got in. They have an online system to pay for lunch, field trips, donations etc.. which I think is very organized. They do have a bus service for New Orleans parish residence, for Jefferson Parish, parents have to pay for bus service. Inside the school is very clean, everything looks fairly new, colorful, bright, and organized. I'm really picky so yes I looked around. The equipment in the cafeteria also looked fairly new and clean. They stress the importance of music, art, and physical education. Which most schools do not. Also they have a speech therapist at the school. Some people tried to discourage me from bringing my son to a language school when he has some catching up to do with his speech. It's amazing to see that he's not the only child who struggles with speech and they have professionals there to help regardless if he's learning one language or two. They also have after school programs like home work help if they stay in after school care, science club, and Soccer Shots. My son just started attending, we find out who our teacher is on Monday but I'm really excited, some say it may be challenging but we are ready for it.

An elementary/ jr. high school is a tough thing to review, but I am sticking with a high four-star…read morereview of ISL, specifically the Camp St campus, based on my admittedly limited experience therewith. The price (free!) can't be beat for an immersion education, and any kid in the state can apply for K or grade 1. Language requirements take effect for admission to grade 2 and above. ISL offers a Spanish and a French program, and my child's knowledge of Spanish, based on just a year and a half, is astouding. She can speak and understand conversational Spanish (and delights in eavesdropping on people speaking Spanish!), when nobody in our families have even so much as studied it in school. It is obvious what a child learns in just a year here. Moreover, there are regular reports sent home to parents to inform how a child is progressing, both academically and behaviorally. For K classes, there are two recesses, music, computers, art, P.E., and circus arts, on top of traditional classroom time. In first grade they don't get circus arts, but it resumes in later years, and they don't get the second recess. The library is coded by dots as to whether a book is in English, Spanish, and/or French, and the librarian speaks all the languages and is amazing with the kids. The kids go to the library once a week to check out new books, and it's open after school too so parents can go check out extra books with their kids. Regular reading time is heavily promoted at ISL. The school lunches are mostly healthy, and children are encouraged to bring healthy foods for snack times too. When my daughter trades her pineapple juice for another child's apple juice, so be it. I'm glad she's got healthy choices for the swap. :) There is a before care program and are two different after care programs, along with track clubs and an off-campus rugby group. The buidling may not be the most state of the art, but the lessons are truly fantastic.

After posting my review, I was contacted by the school and some points of clarity demonstrated…read morebelow (shows you how I much I know!): "At this time, ISL does not have a high school component. The International High School of New Orleans is not affiliated with ISL, so the reference to the "newly formed high school" is misleading. Also, for admission, perspective students go through a developmental observation, after they place in the lottery...I don't want people to be intimidated by the phrase "test in" since we do not do intelligence or IQ based testing for admission."

Which was honestly the best decision I have ever made!!!!!!!!! If you truly care about your child's well-being I highly recommend not even going to tour this school because they will definitely make it seem like a "dream come true"... not only was that far from the truth it was in fact the complete opposite and was a total nightmare and longest 9 days of my life!!!! Bullying is a real thing and I will say this school should be held accountable for the way they handle things... they are ALL TERRIBLE!!!!! But the principle is the worst and is nothing but a joke and bully herself!!! Very questionable on how she is a principle and in charge of anything!!!!

My girls were a part of the SAS community from 2014-2020. During our time at this school, we had a…read morewonderful relationship with both the teaching staff as well as the school leadership team. I have served as a homeroom mom for 2 years, volunteered on numerous occasions, made several classroom donations for events and celebrations, started a mom's club using my own funds, and both my husband and I have always been a present face at all school events. My girls have been exemplary students, every year earning the Alpha Honor Roll for all A's and excellent conduct as well as past recipients of the Christian Citizenship Award. We would have considered ourselves all about St Andrew before the 2019-2020 school year. Unfortunately, this bond was broken due to an arbitrary fee placed on our account. The level of disrespect, dishonesty, and immorality shown after an inquiry regarding this fee was absolutely deplorable. We received an invoice in our email for the amount of $200. The bill was for the cost of gala raffle tickets. On the tuition and fees registration paperwork, it was not listed as a cost. Lots of families wondered where these random 200 & 400 dollar charges came from at the end of the school year, but some families felt so intimidated and/or hopeless in the integrity of the school that they decided not to speak out. The School's 2019/2020 contractual agreement DID NOT assess the gala fees as mandatory and their correspondence regarding the gala clearly indicated that the support and sale of the gala tickets was voluntary on the part of each family. SAS had no right nor legal basis to assess this fundraiser fee to us or any other parents at the school for that matter who declined to voluntarily make the payment! As a result, St. Andrew placed a hold on my oldest two daughters' report cards. The principal went so low as to refuse to release my 3 year old daughter's personal items, books we paid for and any projects my girls had (clothes and pictures we purchased and sent to the school in case of accidents) during the belongings prek pick-up day! Personal items we purchased ourselves were literally withheld and kept as collateral! The police were called twice about my clothes and we filed a lawsuit in small claims court all over 200 dollars. Yes, this is a small amount, but right is right and wrong is wrong, especially coming from a Catholic Christian school. We, at that time, had the entergy to fight it. With the Archdiocese being bankrupt, you're not going to get any money back from them but I did hear SAS is changing their financial obligations paperwork now and including these fees. Hmm wonder why that happened? We had already decided to leave St. Andrew in December and all the 200 nonsense happened in May. Another problem was school leadership and the level of education received (which is why we decided to leave, even before the situation occurred). It's a good chance that your child will be behind or have to play "catch up" if you decide to put them in a school on the eastbank after they leave St. Andrew's. Remember, this is coming from someone whose daughters received STRAIGHT A's from Kindergarten to 4th grade. Had me thinking that maybe they just give A's if you listen and pay attention. It's not just me, I've also heard of other students needing Summer school to catch up for high school, or struggling in the beginning when transitioning to a new curriculum. Now there were some great teachers there whom I give much credit to for my daughters' academic achievement and those particular teachers all stand out and definitely deserve not be aligned with any negative reviews. As far as school leadership, I would say that they did a subpar job as it relates to monitoring classroom instruction. What we experienced overall was not Blue Ribbon worthy. In regards to my matter, the school leadership team showed poor human-relations and poor interpersonal- communication skills, and a complete lack of character and ethics. We never received one email response from the principal regarding our complaint! The principal was also very short with my husband when he asked a question; no compassion or understanding at all. They DO NOT HOLD THEMSELVES ACCOUNTABLE for their mistakes or actions! When I called the school, the principal never came to the phone. The director of finance was EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional when simple questions were posed. No members of leadership ever contacted us! How awful to treat a family that dedicated YEARS to SAS and one whom you always had excellent rapport with with zero understanding, compassion, and above all disrespect! All in all, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND attending St. Andrew unless it was your last option. Trust me, either the leadership team or the school priest will more than likely do something to make you ask yourself "WHY AM I PAYING FOR THIS?"
