He made a great first impression. Promising to reconcile my books, handle taxes, have calls to strategize, and move my business from the state I used to live to Arizona. I asked if we could have a set up call early on to go over how my books had been categorized. He assured me that it wasn't necessary. Fast forward to early 2023. My books are complete. Unfortunately around 60% of all profit and loss was mis-categorized. To make things worse, there were careless mistakes. The same contractor paid back to back days. First categorized under contractors, then categorized under "credit card payment". I had to take 2 days off to undo everything and do it myself. To make things worse, when you ask about things, he'll try to gaslight you into thinking it's your fault. He'll bring up something he asked for months ago that I never gave him. Even though there's no record of the request in emails or notes. In the end, he'll keep stringing you along collecting monthly payments until you've realized you wasted hundreds if not thousands of dollars. He barely accomplished anything stated in the contract he sent. I'd look into hiring a different CPA.

I have had such an amazing experience with this office and its lawyer's, that I had to make time to write a review. My mother's dementia moved so quickly that she was unable to care for herself in over a period of a year and half. However, she thought she was fine, that put me in such a bind where I couldn't legally help her and she couldn't help herself. She was being scammed left and right, adult protective services had 5 different claims on her and I was hitting a point where I felt incredibly helpless. This office has lawyers that can handle a variety of such issues. They helped me get guardianship over my mother so I could legally move her to safety and have since helped me with every court proceeding I have had to date, to include the intricate details of her trust and finances. Additionally, I was helped with issues that had to deal with me and the stresd level i was dealing with. They care and it was a blessing that I came across this office. Mr Zack sounded professional and qualified to do this very simple probate case, boy did I misread that. Please keep in mind that this is a very simple and uncontested probate case with very minimal assets and only 2 siblings (which were in complete agreement). Well 2 years later the probate is almost complete. This has been the worst experience I've ever experienced with what should be a "professional" business. The level of incompetence that this attorney and his staff has demonstrated over the past 2 years is mind boggling. When I originally spoke to Mr Zack he said that an uncontested probate can be easily handled in 6 months with more difficult cases taking 1-2 years. Fast forward 2+ years and my very simple case is almost complete only after my wife and I had to, on multiple occasions, call to forcefully inquire. If you are considering hiring Mr Zack or his associates I would strong urge you to reconsider and retain someone else who is actually qualified. The only reason I gave 1 star is because a negative star wasn't an option.

He was well qualified, very knowledgable, a great trial attorney, and very responsive to our calls and emails. We highly recommend him. However, on the downside, this firm is extremely expensive, constantly raised the hourly billing rate (as soon as 30 days after signing a retainer agreement!) and seemed to have no consideration as to how much the matter was costing us. We were very clear up front as to the value of the property in litigation and as to what we could afford yet still, we wound up spending $250,000 in litigation over a property with $160,000 in equity.

In Sept, I was expecting an updated draft complaint with edits I had sent to him. Instead of contacting me regarding my updates to the complaint; Mr. Castillo instead contacted the city I live in for documents I had already supplied his office in June. He then, using the same documents, claimed my case was weak and said he wanted to change my complaint. However, the email and letter he sent gave no indication about how he wanted to change my complaint, nor did he provide me the updated draft copy I had been waiting 10 days for. He did provide a photograph of one side (there are two) of an inspection record which he called a 'document' in later correspondence with me. Another document that he alluded to in his Sept email I didn't receive until 4 Dec; It took leaving 2 reviews and 3 more emails to his office. His reasoning for not providing the document sooner was I told him to "standby." However, he alluded to this document on 10 Sept and I told him to standby on 24 Sept. Now I'm told that document was "inadvertently not included" in his 10 Sept email to me. When I received September's Invoice, I was charged again for "reviewing" documents- including the ones he had already received from me. I first asked him about the billing and the fact that he had not provided me any additional documents than what I already had received from the city. When Mr. Castillo responded to my initial questions he did not provide the documents, nor did he elaborate on how he wanted to change my complaint. I tried again to point out to Mr. Castillo that, a photograph is not a document and the secondly I did not receive the missing document, I believe it is My directness in conversing with Mr Castillo that caused him to decide "this relationship isn't working out" and quit, in an email, on Wednesday before Thanksgiving at 330 PM. In that email he offered to "refund" me $700 for the work he did relating to the city's documents. I believe this was offered because I have a valid Arizona Bar complaint for over-billing and abandoning a client. However, in order to receive my retainer and refund I will need to make the 4-hour round trip drive to his office since he won't mail it- but his office encouraged me to mail-in rather than drive up my last deposit? Overall, the majority of my costs were incurred though correspondence with Mr. Castillo with little actual work on my case. I am dissatisfied with the lack of communication from Mr. Castillo regarding his desire to change my complaint without any clarity about how he wanted to change it until the email where he quit. I was also informed by Mr Castillo he will sue me if I do not remove my review; claiming it's defamatory. In order to protect myself and freely express my unhappiness regarding Mr. Castillo's professional performance I edited this review. I received a second correspondence from Mr. Castillo regarding my previous yelp and google reviews. Considering I have nothing positive to say about Mr. Castillos handling of my case, I am not surprised he is unhappy with my review. Now, I believe he is trying to intimidate me by threatening a lawsuit. However, my perception of my professional interactions with Mr. Castillo is not defamation. He failed to perform his duties to my expectations. I've said nothing of his personal character, only my personal disappointment with the service he provided. Since Mr. Castillo is sending private correspondence directly to me regarding these reviews, instead of addressing them publicly leads me to believe that he has used the same threats and intimidation in the past to have negative reviews removed. I received an email from an attorney's office claiming to represent Mr. Castillo with a demand letter stating that he is going to file lawsuit on 16 December if I do not remove my review- free speech is not illegal and Ive stated nothing false. Also, it's been three weeks since he QUIT ON ME- and the $10,000 I deposited for retainer has not been refunded to me.

It was a very clear-cut, non contentious divorce that should've taken 3 months MAX and could've been done sans lawyer - but I didn't want to deal with the paperwork headache. So I paid a $4,000 retainer with the assurance that we would NOT exceed that amount unless it turned into a battle that went to court. Well, we never went to court and were in agreement every step of the way, yet Marc is now trying to charge additional funds after the divorce took 8 months due to HIS disinterest in the case. This lack of attentiveness led to MULTIPLE, repeated mistakes that should've never occurred because the majority of the divorce - including the parenting plan, division of property / debts and other miscellaneous details - had all been laid out by myself at the very beginning. Every time these mistakes were brought to his attention, with a gentle reminder for him to "refer to the original paperwork" - I was charged for him to make the corrections. I was told numerous times that certain paperwork or filings were already completed - then weeks or even months later, was surprised to hear that he was still working on those same items and you guessed it - being charged for them again. More than once, I sat in his office for appointments where he went over details that we had ALREADY ADDRESSED and reviewed in previous meetings - which was once again, a clear opportunity to double-charge me. I even had to ask for corrections on the child support order 3 different times (!!) - when I kept pointing out that the amounts were "off" compared to what I had determined in my own calculations. If I could give a zero, I would. Perhaps he was a good lawyer in the past, or is better with other areas of law - but when it came to a simple divorce, he was incredibly incompetent and expressed NO sense of urgency. In all honesty, his secretary was the only reason anything got done. Maybe I might've had a better experience if I was one of his "bigger ticket" clients - but unless you want to be exorbitantly charged for extreme lack of detail and disregard for your case, heed my advice and take your legal matters elsewhere!
