On approaching the staffed checkouts (we prefer a human being to doing it ourselves) we saw significant queues and no signs of movement, and two tills were closing (this was around 5.20pm). A manager (?) assured us that there would be staff coming to the checkouts "in two minutes". I'm glad we didn't take him at his word, because the 20 minutes we were there we didn't see any (even after the "queue-buster call went out at 5.30pm). The poor woman working at our till was totally overwhelmed with her workload (and she was a middle-aged lady), while younger staff were seen leisurely wandering around the self service and self-scanned areas - surely some kind of staffing malfunction? We often shop at Aldi (Beach Boulevard) Lidl (Torry) and Tesco (Torry) all within 1-2 miles of this Asda and ALL of those stores have efficient staffing, effective management, and priority service for customers wishing to use staffed tills. We now rarely shop in Asda, we used to be regular shoppers in Glasgow and Cumbernauld, but our experience of Asda - especially as they are heavily pushing the self-service to the real detriment of the one-to-one customer experience has not only put us off, but I'm sure will put many many more customers off. Asda it's EASY; 1. convert some of the profits to secure good staff 2. increase your staffing 3. serve your customers. Because if you continue to push staffed checkouts down your list of priorities then we will not return. And we are not alone.

A lovely spot in the city centre of Aberdeen, at the top end of Union Street. On Wednesday I…read moresurprised my Mum by getting a train up to Aberdeen for her birthday. My brother booked a table here for dinner as he loved the burger last time he had been in. On arrival the waitress gave us an option of two tables and said the one further away would be next to a large party of 8. So we opted for the quieter table. For a Wednesday in the middle of January the place was quite full. There are large tables round a fire near the bar which would be lovely for some drinks or coffee during the day. The menu changes quite often according to my brother, based on ingredients and seasonality which is always a good thing. I had some incredible yoghurt and chickpea falafels. My brother ate his 3 scallops before the plate was practically put down, I then scoffed his bulgur wheat. Mum loved her salmon. For main I had seabass with potato gnocchi was light and well seasoned. The burger my brother had was definitely homemade with a serious amount of meat put into it! I shared the STP with Mum, because you can't turn down an STP ever.

This is a great restaurant, and one of my favorites in Aberdeen. It is located on an off street,…read moreand a little hard to find. Kind of in a basement of one of the buildings on Queens Terrace. Though not nearly as stuffy as that sounds. Walk down the flight of steps and into the bar area. They use the lighting well because as you walk in everything is bright and open. Polished granite bar with the tap towers right in front. They will have a cask every once in a while. I think it is always something from Timothy Taylor. A small, but nice scotch selection of various Duncan Taylor offerings. Some booths in the bar area, then a dinning area towards the back. Very open and modern. The exposed, ancient granite walls is a perfect counter to the modern set up of the place as well. The service is always friendly, and for lunch they are particularly quick. Lots of business people in and out at lunch time, so they know how to keep up the ticket times. Though if you are in no rush, that is not a problem either. Open for breakfast, lunch, and diner on most days. Though closed on Mondays. Anyway, the food is excellent. Freshly prepared and locally sourced. The menu changes with the seasons and with what is available. Wild Mushroom Risotto, hell yes. The rib eye and steaks are great, when they have smoked salmon that is a no brainer. So fresh and flavorful. A great place to have a meal, and a drink. Enjoy your time here, then head on down Queens Terrace to No 10 Tavern for a great little pub. Which is exactly what I usually do when I stop by here.
