Communication is a trick, but if I did a bunch of prep and acted as confident as him, he listened better. He was disarmed once we started talking about barbecue, maybe that's a pro tip? Based on my experiences, I hope he finds a job he likes better! ALL THAT SAID! I'm still seeing him because he does three big things I have really wished for with other docs: *He advocated for non-surgical options and seemed to really consider the impact surgery would have on my life. *He was comfortable being direct with bad news and even leaned in to help me interpret bad news in plain language so I could understand what it meant for my daily life. *He seems to use realistically low expectations for how much behavior/lifestyle change people are actually going to do in the long term. His delivery can feel a little insulting and he might underestimate patients sometimes, but now that I know that I can be clear about the places I know I'm ready to put in the work. My feet were so painful that I could barely get around on crutches. I thought I was going to be…read morethat woman skooting around the store on the motorized cart. My quality of life was as poor as it had ever been, in 59 years. I went to the Olympia Orthopedics Walk-In clinic TWICE, and saw one of their "specialists" as well. They did NOTHING for me, other than give me an air cast that doesn't fit and that I was never able to even hobble around in. Finally, after a weekend of literally writhing in pain, and barely able to even get from my bed to the bathroom (with crutches!) I called Foot & Ankle Associates on the Westside of Olympia (where I live). It was meant to be. They had a cancellation that afternoon and got me right in. I saw Dr. Casey Bowles and I am so impressed by his knowledge and compassion that I would recommend him to ANYONE! His assistants are top-notch as well! After examining, he told me that it was plantar faciitis in both feet, tendonitis, and I have unusually high arches. It's actually pretty amazing that it's taken this long for my feet to basically say "enough!" He gave me an injection in each foot (which I was terrified of) and he made it as tolerable as possible. The next day was the FIRST day in I don't know how long that I woke up pain free. I nearly cried from the relief. I went back a week later for another set of shots (one of my feet was starting to get grumpy again), and in two weeks I'll go back for a third, but only if I need it. He said that many people often are cured with just 2 shots. He also shaped and installed some arch supports on my shoe insoles...already I can tell that they are going to make a huge difference for me. Again, Dr. Bowles and his staff are the BEST! Plus, at the risk of sounding like a dirty old lady, he's quite easy on the eyes as well! LOL
