My mom was a higher functioning memory care resident and really got lost in the shuffle because her needs were not as great as other residents. She spent most of her time in her room. When I suggested that they could perhaps do more engagement activities that would be suitable for people at her level, the senior management person I spoke with suggested that I consider hiring a caregiver so she could get more attention. I also agree that the food was pretty bad. I moved my mom to a much smaller place that is not as aesthetically pleasing, but where the staff has really gotten to know my mom. The food is better, the room is bigger, the price is cheaper, and most importantly, I don't worry about whether my mom is well cared for when I am out of town.

But let me tell you, they will not even do the bare minimum that is part of the rental contract because they are always "under-staffed". Several occasions they lost our family members medications and spent days trying to locate them while she was left without her diabetic monitors among other crucial medications. And you will be charged a ridiculous amount for a "care plan" and within weeks to months they will do another assessment without any communication and double the monthly care plan, this is how they make their money. Charging lower rent and ridiculous amounts for "care plans" that are bogus and unwarranted. AND, they won't even do the additional items they claim they need assistance with like showering and dressing. and God help your loved one if they push the "panic button" they are given to wear around their neck because they have an emergency, the staff is not coming to help at any type of pace that would be acceptable in a true emergency. I could go on forever about the unscrupulous practices happening in the place. The management team, accounting and care team will not respond to emails and will hide from you in their offices. Absolute incompetence. Stay away, so many other great options in this area of town.

There was a high turnover rate of care givers and other staff. Costs increased almost 20% within a year. The memory care is on the third floor of this old run down building, and she hardly ever saw daylight. They'll lure you in with a big song and dance, and then they'll put them in wheelchairs and they just sit there forgotten. Promises of 'activities, field trips, walks, porch visits'. It was sad and depressing every visit, and the third floor smells like pee. My mom was spry and could walk fine when she got there, and when we finally left for good not even a year later, we had to wheel her out because she never walked around and lost abilities, she was unbathed for weeks, and with a UTI. It's quite a shame. No one there, including the employees, are truly happy.

The med techs control medication and have several times refused her the break through medication when requested. The Director of nursing employed there has been rude on several occasions. The medical alert the residents where and ring when they need help often go unanswered. They were recently bought by Pruitt. In my opinion the care for mom has gone downhill. I would consider moving her but at 103 it would be too much for her.
