If those sounds make you sink into a goo of relaxation then this is the park for you! Terra Nova Bird Sanctuary is a wonderful place at the tip of Richmond Dyke where a small lake resides with a massive surrounding outburst of cattails and local shrubbery. Amongst the natural beauty, there are newly laid wooden paths and uniquely designed wooden benches for you to stroll and sit as you observe the wildlife.
Ducks gliding across the pond with no care. The snowgeese flying in gigantic flocks above your head as they squak and you cover your head in anticipation for some goose-poop. Powerful hawks stretching their wings out and standing tall amongst the trees. Small sparrows spurring with each other as they zoom zig-zags across the lake.
If you become tired of this, there are gravel paths for you to bike or walk along and the dyke is just a few feet away. There is plenty of parking along the dyke and even a public washroom. Beautiful place for sunsets and sunrises. I've even seen couples taking their wedding photos here too.
Overall, this is my favourite getaway for some photography, reading a book or just some peace and quiet. As long as we're sharing this sanctuary, remember to keep this habitat safe and pristine for the wildlife it's made for! read more
