I saw this deal on Groupon awhile back. I like different and new things to do so I decide to buy the deal and go for it. I was glad that I did step out the box with this class. It was a bit messy but lots of fun. I was in a class with a few other people who were fun. This 90 minute pottery class is worth every minute of fun. The atmosphere was welcoming and had some awesome sculptures around the gallery for you to see. Our instructor Drew was very patient and attentive to each one of his students. He was nice and friendly to stop his lecture to help us out to center the clay in the middle of the wheel. This place is highly recommend to go and try something new, fun and different

Cool pottery place! Came here with some friends to make some plates, bowls, and cups. The classes are by appointment only as I understood. Anyways, the class itself is about an hour and a half or so. And then you paint your project afterward. Luckily I was with friends that made the night go very well. As for the teacher, I would give him a 1 star rating. By far the WORST art teacher I've ever come across. He was so brutally rude and mean. If you made something unique, he would make sure to discourage you and say that's not art. And the fact that if you try to joke around with him, he's comeback would sure be something offensive. Seemed like he really hated working there. And obviously doesn't enjoy working with people. I made a beautiful vase and told him I was done. He came and said it was too thick. Okay fine. I could fix that. But then, he didn't even ask me if he could fix it, immediately starts touching my art and completely ruining it. I almost cried!! WTF?! Let's just say, I won't be coming back.

Lace pottery plate, a work in process.

What a gem of a place, a full outfitted pottery studio hiding out in Oak Park. We purchased a Groupon for their lace pottery class. Information was easy to find and easy to understand on their website, a simple phone call confirmed our class seats. The class was so much fun! Our seasoned instructor was full of personality and easy to talk to. She did a thorough demonstration before putting us off to work. The whole process is really easy to follow and there's no pressure to do things exactly a certain way. You have the freedom to make any pattern and paint any colors. If you are worried, the instructor is there the entire time to give you a helping hand. The only thing to keep in mind is that your plate will not be ready for pick up until two weeks afterward. Overall, an awesome Groupon find, I definitely recommend it!

The girls after their lace plate making class! So happy and proud of their work (and with good reason).

We also had a Groupon for the lace plate making class, which I bought with my kids in mind. Little did I know they'd be the only kids there! My kids are 6 & 8, (so not exactly fully independent...) but the instructor didn't bat an eye, said they'd be absolutely fine, and indeed they were. (I'd assumed I might need to oversee or help out, since it was not actually a kids' art class). Bottom line, Barb was warm, friendly, professional, and put everyone at ease, & the work my kids did is marvelous. They had a great time and would certainly love to go back. Thanks too to the rest of the class for being so friendly!

These are the plates painted and now they have to dry and be fired in the kiln. More pictures when we pick them up in 2 weeks.

GP Tetrev Pottery is my absolute favorite place to shop for beautiful, functional pottery for my…read morehome and also gorgeous pieces to gift to others. I've purchased over a dozen pieces since the shop opened earlier in the year. My plan is to buy a few more each month while I build up my kitchen collection. I want a whole set of dishes from here. And I plan to buy more holiday gifts here too. The large bowls, vases and tumbler sets make great gifts. The $20 bowls and mugs would be perfect to bring to all those work holiday gift exchanges where you are supposed to spend $20 on a gender-neutral gift and 90% of your co-workers wrap up a Starbucks gift card. Trust me, a $20 piece from this shop would be a way better gift!! I used to use glasses and plates from Pier One -and in a house full of busy teens and clumsy me many end up chipped or broken and we just toss them out- but this year I've been eating and drinking out of the hand-crafted mugs, bowls and plates from this shop. It makes a difference in how I approach meals and care for the items!! I get excited to eat off these truly beautiful creations and it makes me smile to know that each was crafted intentionally by a local artist. And I'm extra careful doing dishes now as I've grown so fond of each piece and I've watched the potters in the shop actually making the items so I know how much care and attention go into their work. I love how several different artists contribute to the inventory at the shop and I'm pretty sure I have items from everyone by now. Different colors, glazes and forms appeal to me in different ways and I always find something when I visit. Like I just learned the owner Gabe can do dog bowls! The prices are really amazing. Today I got 3 stunning pieces- bowl, mug and tumbler- for $50. They were supposed to be gifts but I've already put them in my dish cabinet. Gabe can do custom orders too. I encourage everyone to stop in and see this place in person. Shop local. Spread the word.

Gabe, the artist/owner, was amazingly accommodating to work with on a commissioned piece. I loved the original piece so much that I added on 2 additional smaller pieces that he had in the studio ready for sale. Everything was affordable, unique, beautiful and made by hand! I highly recommend checking him out if you are in the market for shelf decoration or really unique cups, bowls, etc.... Such an awesome experience that I came out of Yelp retirement to post! #SupportYourLocalArtist
