New to TCB, but they were able to do what I needed (brew and keg). The process was fairly flawless except for the one guy they have dealing with customers. Got my brew started, they helped me pick another when the one I wanted (Corona style) wouldn't be ready for the party I was having. Basically, they let me know when it was ready, I picked up (they keg exchange, so I didn't need to wait to clean my keg). The only thing I will say not positive about TCB is the one fella I encountered there both times. Dark-haired with silver in the mix. I am not sure why they have him up front dealing with customers. Very off-putting, negative, bordering on just an A-hole. The fella was not a joy to be around at all. The other two individuals I spoke with were fine (one lady and another strawberry blonde-haired fellow). I haven't tasted the beer yet, so I can't yet comment on the quality of the product (more to come on that later), but I feel like if the beer isn't stellar I won't be back to deal with the "Beer Nazi". read more

We recently gave TCB a try hoping to save a bit of money on decent white table wine. They have wines starting at 4 weeks for the lowest price, then 5, 6, and 8 week wines as well. We decided to start with a 4 week Pinot Grigio which cost $125 for 23 litres (30 bottles!), less than half the price at a government liquor store for their cheapest plonk. Because of the price I didn't have huge expectations about the quality, but we thought we'd start there as a baseline and work our way up if it was decent. Fast forward 4 weeks and we went in to bottle our wine, which you can sip on as you bottle, and decent it was! The process is very easy and they patiently walk you through it, showing you how to use the bottle sanitizer, setting up your carboy and showing you the equipment. They have parking in the rear, with a small area to load your car in the front. From start to finish it took a half hour, and now we're at home deciding where to store all of our wine! We'll definitely be back to try some of the more premium wines. Highly recommend. read more

I love this place! Top notch! I heard about West Coast U Brew from my friend who brewed wine, beer and cider for her wedding. All were so tasty that I had to give it a go. We got a batch of the Newcastle Ale to start and it was so good we went back before we were done and got a Raintree Amber. Also, ordered a 5 week wine, pinot noir. We just bottled the Raintree and wine today. They have so many styles and types it's hard to choose. The place is like a man-cave. Pool table, TV's, bar/cash desk, massive CD collection litter the area, while random steins take over the wall for you to sample your own brewed beer. The staff who work here are awesome, friendly and like to have a good laugh. First, you order what you want, wait how ever many weeks it takes, then go in to bottle. The guys brew everything for you! Bottling is so easy/fun and only takes a half hour (if not too busy). You can purchase plastic or glass bottles onsite, or bring your own. We purchased 48 1L "howe sound" beer bottles for $105 and brought our own 30 wine bottles. They have a different beer and wine on special every month, which is usually $15 to $20 cheaper than regular price. There is a parking lot in the back of the building and a loading zone in the front for you to stop and drop off boxes of bottles. They even have a cleaning station (free of charge) for you to sanitize bottles. Just be careful/responsible when drinking the beer! It is potent and much like draft/German beer. 5% is more like 7%. Tip: Call ahead to make sure your batch is ready to be bottled and at the same time book an appointment to come in and bottle as it does get busy. read more

The only thing better than having a beer at home or at a friend's, is having a great beer at a great price. And having enough of it to share with everyone. I discovered West Coast U Brew many years ago through a friend who worked there. In those days, at their previous location on 2nd and Quebec, you had to get the recipe sheet for the beer you wanted, round up all the ingredients, and then hope that someone would take pity on you and help you create your concoction, while you played a game of pool in the shop. Times have changed. For the better. The location on Clark Drive is much bigger, has parking and the same great service that their customers enjoy. You no longer have to do any of the work in creating your brew. It's all done for you. Two weeks after ordering, you get to do the fun part of bottling or canning (and sampling). West Coast offers a variety of beer recipes from light lagers to dark ales. For Christmas, I decided to make a batch of West Coast Pilsner, which was on special for $105. I cut the two week deadline pretty close, but Dave was most accommodating and made sure that I was able to get my beer brewed before the 24th. A high five to Dave. I canned my beer, yielding 143 cans. It would have been 145 if it weren't for a bit of spillage and a bit of a sample or three during the canning assembly. If you've never tried u-brew, here's an easy way to get started: Round up 2 or 3 friends, and split the batch. It's a good way to try the product, and to solicit help during the bottling process. There's something for everyone's taste, and at about $1 / beer including the cost of cans, it's a concept that needs to be tried. Oh, and the pool table is still there. Maybe in the summer they'll bring back the old tradition of the BBQ parties in the back parking lot. Hint, hint. read more

The air at West Coast U-Brew waffes of honey malt and hops. It's a bright, no-nonsense U-brew plant, sparse with memorabilia but containing the down-to-earth characters we'd expect. Together with a group of firends, we bought a vat of Smithwick's ale. We paid $135 for 48 litres. For a U-Brew, we didn't need to do anything to brew our beer except choose what we wanted. It took a while to choose though. They offer a large variety of wines and beers. In two weeks (and not-so-coincidentally, around Superbowl time), we'll come back for our full harvest of Smithwick's. At that point, we'll finalize what we'd like to contain our sweet, sweeet ale with, but I think the group has already decided on sleek, labelless silver cans. I'll report again later on the quality of the brew but based on its atmosphere, this simple U-brew has the qualities that we look for in an authentic, we-know-our-beers type atmosphere. The pool table up front adds to its feel. Of couse, in two weeks, we'll see whether the beer lives up to its feel. read more

My sigo loves this place and our friends rave about the beer we bring home (and give to them. Our friends are mostly people who are particular about what they consume.) I helped bottle it one time and found staff and customers alike very helpful, good natured and friendly. Don't come dressed in finery, you will probably get a little beery and wet. The prices are good because you'll spend an hour or two bottling it yourself. I don't have any negative comments to make so I'm giving it 5 stars. read more

After a couple of disappointing beer brews and nondescript red wine orders elsewhere, we decided to give West Coast U-Brew a try - and we made a great choice! Staff here are fantastic - very laid back, friendly, funny, helpful and knowledgeable. My husband and I are fans of flavourful craft beers (such as Central City, Elysian, Driftwood, Paralell 49, Unibroue and Brooklyn beers) as well as a multitude of belgian brews. For our first batch at Westcoast we chose Mike's IPA with a touch extra hop. The second next time we went just a bit hoppier. Both batches have been delicious with the added bonus that they're ready just 2 weeks from ordering and are good to drink right away. We'll definitely be coming back for more beer and, after ordering supposedly premium red wines elsewhere that tasted less than mediocre, we'll be adding that to our next Westcoast U-Brew order as well. Great tasting beer, friendly knowledgeable staff and great prices. Brewing beer at West Coast U-Brew is always an experience. We end up chatting with the guys the whole way through, either the processing, or the bottling. They're friendly, funny and have a huge breadth of knowledge. They have a great selection of products, and if you don't know what you're looking for, they'll help you out. Have a craft beer in mind? They'll try to match it. Our batch was short two bottles yesterday, and they recognized it, and topped us up with two of their own. The place is kept clean and they explain every step. I find it's best to schedule the times so there are enough bottling staions/kettles available. I've never been disappointed with a beer I've made with them. Yesterday's batch of honey brown was another success. And at a little over $1 a 500ml bottle, value is great too. I'd been going there for years, and upon my reappearance yesterday after a few years absence, Mike still recognized me. Great place overall. read more

I was put at ease right away and one beer lover talking to another made for a pleasant experience. If you're not sure what you're looking for, they will guide you to find what will make you happy. Dave has brewed about 20 batches for us and every one has been fabulous, preservative-free beer for an unbelievable price. Inexpensive does not mean lower quality here. Unfortunately you have to wait a couple of weeks for bottling, and that is hard for some people in this day and age of instant gratification. The staff are so helpful! It was my first time brewing beer and they were able to help me pick the beer to brew and also helped with the canning process when the beer was ready. Even after we finished canning it was fun to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink and hang out with them! We were a little reluctant to try this place as we were scared we would end up with 30 bottles of terrible wine since you can't taste test before you order. We took a leap of faith and ordered the 5 week Malbec Syrah. We paid $150 and were told to come back in 5 weeks. Gulp. Fingers crossed. SURPRISE!! The wine is entirely drinkable and actually pretty good. It's not the best wine I've ever tasted but I have definitely had much, much worse. We are drinking it right after bottling too and apparently it improves dramatically the longer it sits. No aftertaste, apparently lower sulphites than your average LB bottle. We are very happy as it's good 'stay in at home' wine . The bottling process is pretty straightforward and quicker than you would expect. We were in and out in 20 minutes with our cases. We bought bottles from there as well as we couldn't be bother to scrub the labels off of our empties. The staff is chill, not overly eager but friendly enough. They also provide free shrink wrap and labels if you want to class it up. It's pretty awesome to be paying only $5/ bottle when something comparable would run you $20. read more

I have brewed here a number of times. The beer is good enough. But I have to say the customer service is terrible. Mercurial. Really. For example, when we bottled one of our batches and found 4 litres missing, we innocently asked what might have happened. Instead of a reasonable answer, the owner flipped out. Basically told us to take a hike. Very odd. So now we're U Brewing elsewhere. Broadway Brewing (16th & MacDonald) or Purple Castle Brewing are great alternatives. They both offer wheat beers, which West Coast does not (and were unwilling to consider). read more

Everyone always makes a sour face when you mention u-brew but I always get this reaction : "Wow, this is actually really good. Where did you say you made it?"
