Xicoira - Una mirada a la carta

¡Heaven is Lleida! This veggie lasagna was by far the best lasagna--vegan or not--that I've ever…read morehad. I'm not even finished with it and I'm trying to plan a trip back to Lleida just to have it again! The tapas I ordered, Braves Xicoira, which were like home fries but in a spicy tomato sauce, were fantastic in and of themselves, but the lasagna--The Lasagna--Veggie Lassanya de carbassa in a Mushroom béchamel--topped any lasagna I've ever eaten in the US. The ambience of this place was nice as well. Not necessarily the music I want to hear when in Catalonia/Spain, but the look and the "feel" was very nice. Okay for a group as long as it is a small group. It's a typical European-style restaurant/bar--very nicely adorned with greenery, stone trim, and quaint decorations, it is really aesthetically pleasing to be here--the American pop music is something too familiar to me for it to be that perfect experience. But that said, this isn't a place to draw tourists...in name or locale. So maybe the local regulars find the music fitting. It was honestly by happenstance and a little help from Happy Cow that I stumbled down the Lleida cobblestone streets to find this place. By the way if you are planning to come, don't expect a late afternoon-early evening meal. If you miss the merienda ("lunch-ish") time, then you'll have to wait until they open again at 8:30pm. But do plan to come here. I'm thinking I should come back tomorrow and try the veggie burger for lunch. It isn't too far from the hotel where I'm staying and down at the foot of the hill of La Seu Vella and the Castillo del rey. And with that the meal was one fit for a Rey. My only American, capitalistic regret was the lasagna wasn't bigger. Truth be told, with the tapes, the lasagna was probably an ideal serving.

The waitress was very friendly and although technically lunch isn't served until 1pm (a typical Catalan tradition, especially on Sundays) she offered the menu plus the signage was already out to lure hungry passerbys. This month happens to be a very busy Tarragona Festival and seating in old city is difficult to come by, so it was truly delightful to have open seats, have prompt service & have many options of paella for 1 or 2 people. Note: A lot of places across Spain have a minimum requirement of 2 or more for the kitchen to prepare any paella but just like the name, the Miracle wants you to order individually or to share two different varieties of paella. My foodie tastebuds are very satisfied! Near the end, the manager came by to say "Etas Bien?" Indeed it was! While it might not stand out from curbside appeal, it's definitely a standout experience in the quaint little town of Tarragona!

We were expecting to put our names down but he said he'd remember our faces! The restaurant is right on a beautiful & lively walkway by the sea, so 45 min went by quickly. We were starving by then but the food was definitely yummy - I got the prawn pesto tagliatelle, which was creamy and fresh. My friend got a vegetarian salad, and we both got glasses of red sangria, which was fruity and quite strong lol. I will say they didn't have that many appealing vegetarian options, but that seems to be the case in most of Spain. Service & ambience were on point too, and the owner made an effort to make us feel at home, would recommend this place
