Very nice place! Perfect blend of class and casual. Does anyone find it slightly ironic that the best cafe americanos are not in America? Just had another awesome one here. I guess it could be that travel heightens the tastebuds as well as the sensation of caffeine. But this the flavor of the damn things! They are awesome in Spain--when I get back home I'm going to order a Cafe Español and see what happens (read blank stares). But enough about the coffee. I ordered the Avocado Toast and a Veggie Portobello with Soy Mayo. Both were good. The toast the avocado was layered on made Texas Toast look like Rhode Island toast...well maybe Ohio Toast (Texas toast can still be pretty thick). But this slice of pan tostado was a brick. Although it was well toasted and packed a crunch, I'm not referring to the hardness--it's the size I'm referencing. And I'm convinced they put an entire avocado on this thing. Sprinkled with chia and flax it was a plant-based marvel. But the taste award goes to the Veggie Portobello with Soy Mayo. This little beauty was so gorgeous and tasty I called mine Jessica (read my wife). The soy mayo was was treat and with the sun-dried tomatoes and slices of fresh tomatoes cuddling right up with those wonder-inspiring mushrooms, it had to be one of the best things I've had on my trip.
For those interested, I came for breakfast on a Monday morning. So it was very quiet, music playing overhead, the swishing swirl of an espresso machine, and the occasional clank of a fork on a plate, and that was it. Old gentlemen came in and sat at the bar. At one point a gentlemen and lady had a slightly ardent discussion of Catalonian politics but then it was ended and the ambient sounds returned. There is a bar and a substantial wine selection. Also there is outdoor seating on the plaza in front which, appears to be for later in the day when it will warm up a bit.
