This Drybar in Reston is great, but Mae is the reason I keep coming back. I've tried other…read morestylists, and while everyone is talented, Mae is the only one who really understands how I like my hair. With her, I always get the results I want -- and with others, I never quite did. Mae listens, she gets it, and she delivers every single time. I always end up going back to her because I know I'll leave happy and confident with my hair exactly the way I like it. Even after I moved, I still drive over an hour just for Mae to do my hair -- that's how good she is. When you find someone like that, you don't let them go.

Long story short, my hair turned out fine but I will never go back…read more Way back on April 16, I made an appointment for myself and my DIL to have blowouts for a wedding for my son's best friend. I made the appointment for 1:30pm on July 26, a Sunday afternoon. A friend made a separate appointment for her and her daughter-in-law at the same appointment time. On June 26 I received a text from the salon inquiring about our hair length and thickness to make sure we were booked for appropriate length of time. Great! Confidence inspired. The week of our appointments, on Tuesday and on Saturday, I received emailed appointment confirmation requests that required me to click on a link to confirm which I did each time. The emails also advised if we were late or cancelled we would be subject to a $25 fee. Totally fine because this is for a wedding and important--not cancelling and certainly not showing up late. At 11:50AM on the date of the appointment, I get a text asking if we can come in at 1:45pm instead of 1:30pm. I replied that no-we really can't. We have a wedding. Whoever it was texting replied--no problem--1:30pm is fine! We all four show up at 1:30pm which was apparently far from "fine". No one started on my hair until 2:05pm. The other 3 had theirs in progress at varying times later than 1:40pm. At no time did the receptionist come over to where I was sitting to offer any kind of explanation. She walked past me multiple times with no eye contact, no offer to refill water. I am starting to go in full panic mode as we were supposed to bring lunch and drinks to the groomsmen, I still need to walk back to the Hyatt, do makeup, get dressed, get the food and catch a shuttle to the wedding that is 15 minutes away. My stylist apologized when she finally started my appointment and said she had to "finish another girl up." They had to have either squeezed someone else in knowing that there was not adequate time (hence their text) or a person showed up late. Either way, 35 minutes late to start my appointment that they confirmed several times and then told me "1:30pm was fine" is absolutely unacceptable. When I went up to pay, there was no apology, no offer of a discount. I didn't blow my top because at that point, why? There's no way I'd entrust them again with keeping a schedule on an important day. I had to have someone else pick up the food. And mind you, this was a military wedding. Do you know how often I get to see my son and buy he and his friends lunch on an ordinary day, much less on an important day? Not very often. Rare in fact! I wish I would have done my own hair and saved myself the stress! Nothing like paying someone for panic.

Let me tell you, this place is gor-geous. The vibe is immaculately crafted by owner Brooke and her welcoming, but professional staff. There are seasonal cocktails & mocktails, beautifully curated decor, and a full array of hair and styling products. Jen R. did a full consultation with my mom. Everything from how she maintains her hair to her typical activities. Jen is gregarious, while still giving you a deeply detailed cut. She's so passionate about her craft, and it really shines in the results. My mom came out feeling like a new woman, her hair having tons of body and movement, a tough task when your hair is stick straight and thick. She is thrilled, and couldn't wait to take on the rest of our day. I highly recommend Studio B, and honestly can't wait to return for my own appointment.

Lizzie said she was going to leave the root color on for 30 minutes. I told her that my gray is getting more resistant and it's usually left on for the maximum amount of time. She checked at 30 minutes and said it was fine. I was concerned, but I trusted her. Also my balayage and highlights on the rest of my hair was darkened!! my hair is below my collarbone. I called and they brought me back in 4 days to redo my roots and use a clarifying shampoo to bring my highlights back. She could see that roots around my ears were very gray. Because they blow dried my naturally wavy hair it was hard to tell, but my highlights looked brighter. It's been 5 weeks and slowly my highlights are darkened again! This has never happened in all the decade I've had my gray roots colored!! Lizzie cut my hair well but didn't cut enough. I told her that if my hair gets heavy, my headaches might come back. She said she liked my length of hair. My hair is starting to feel heavy. She pretty much told me what she liked and what she was going to do and did not ask both times. The first time it was Saturday before Mother's Day so they were swamped and she was rushing like crazy! I hardly got to give input. Now I will have to go someplace else and spend money to get my balayage back!!

Avoid Micheal Shawn (Kiet Vo) at all costs!…read more Booked a 1:30 appointment. Showed up 10 minutes early. Stood by the desk, someone asked if I needed help, I said I had a 1:30 with Micheal, then was told to sit upfront and he'd come check with me. 20 minutes later, still sitting in the front when a walk-in came in, someone went to go ask Micheal and he said 20-30 minutes and he'd be with him. So I walked back to talk to him and he was deep into coloring someone else's hair, gloves on and everything. So I asked if I still had my appointment, he said "Oh yeah," then said he'd help me in a little. He came and grabbed me finally, then immediately started accosting me about how it's my fault I didn't walk over to him. I don't live here, I don't know who he is so how could I? He continued to accost me the whole cut, lecturing me how it's my fault I had to wait, he even said he saw me in there. 3-5 minutes into the cut he asked if I wanted product. I was so confused, he hadn't done anything I wanted so I asked "are you done?" He said yes, so I repeated what I wanted, then he told me no, he wasn't going to do that and then continued doing what I didn't want for 15 more seconds, then asked how I wanted to pay. My hair is so uneven and is completely fucked up. It's so uneven and he missed parts of my hair... He also works at Scotch and Scissors apparently and tried to get me to go there and told me it'd be $65 there instead of $45 at Village 9. $65 for a 3 minute cut while getting accosted and told he wouldn't cut my hair like I asked? This man is a criminal. I really wish one of the nice ladies at Village 9 would've responded to my inquiry for a cut, they would've been head and shoulders above him.
