Headed out for dinner tonight and decided to try this place. It was very lit up outside with Lime Green signage and a covered patio We met our party and sat down. The menu looked to offer a variety of tasty dishes. Started off with Queso. Ehhh maybe a 3 out of 10 Ordered our dinners and chatted over chips and not so great salsa. No one at our table was a fan. The server was very nice but did not write the order down and had to come back a couple times to re confirm. The food was ok but nothing spectacular. The seasoning seemed to be missing in all the beef dishes. The kicker of the night was they automatically added the gratuity on our checks and we were only a party of 4. Honestly I've been going to Tequila Lopez faithfully since I became a houston resident in 2003. This place does no wrong to me. The owners are always friendly and welcoming. That's always a plus. You can definitely tell this is a family ran business and even no one is related, you wouldn't be able to tell. Our service was quick and efficient. we participated in the past in this restaurant and everything was ok but today i ordered a mixed fajitta of chicken an beef . it was the most tasteless food i ever had in my life. the charro beans had zero flavor, the salsa was nothing but a tasteless paste if something. the beef fajita was cut in a big pieces along with chicken fajita absolutely no flavor , we coulden even get tbe salt out of the salt shaker. in general it was a waste of $45. read more

I have been here several times before and the margaritas are still top notch. Many have claimed that have the strongest margaritas. They weren't that far off. They pack a punch. Also my friend ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp. OMG so delicious. I will definitely be returning to try a full order. Came for Happy Hour on a Thursday. Service was okay, nothing over the top. Enchiladas verdes were 4/10. I planned to return the plate to the kitchen, but our server never circled back around on time. I ended up not finishing my meal and feeling dissatisfied. The green sauce had a bitter taste, almost rotten flavor. And the chicken tasted very questionable & chewy. I will not be visiting again. My husband and I came here for lunch today and we give it 2 stars because the service was good. The food on the other hand not so much. We had planned to go to Gringos but had transportation problems. On a whim we chose a place nearer to us and we don't regret coming. Tequila Lopez was close enough for us. The establishment has a bar extending practically the length of the restaurant and seems to have a steady stream of customers. My companion tried their margaritas and found them good and strong. Yes, I heard of their enchiladas & my companion had his fix set on some meaty ones. I had the enchiladas suiza and was not disappointed. The service was attentive yet not intrusive and from the looks of those at the bar, most seemed like regulars. It had a family atmosphere and we felt at home. We love this place, been going here for years. Even when WE messed up our order one time, they happily remade it (my son has allergies and we forgot to order correctly). My son saw on their website that they had been open for 40+ years and freaked out thinking they would retire and close soon. We like the place that much. The folks that work there are great. We miss the wall murals though, they repainted the walls and we were kinda sad to see the artwork go. Wife and I recently shared nachos, my son had the crunchy taco meal. My family and I drive 30-40 minutes weekly, to have family dinner here. If it was closer it would be several times a week! What hooked us is the quality and consistency of the refried beans, queso, burritos and the AMAZING service! Simple things like refilling your drinks & chips and salsa and not sitting for with an empty table keep us coming back. Everything is homemade and you can tell. The carrots/onions/jalapeños (Escabeche?) are pickled and sliced thin... with the perfect bite to them. They are my absolute favorite! Salsa is just spicy enough, not chunky, not thin... my favorite. I love queso, carrots and a bit of salsa all together on a chip... could eat that as a meal alone and I get some veges in my diet! Win win! The refried beans are beyond perfect. We'll sometimes take home a quart and eat during the week. Smooth texture and seasoned perfectly. You can tell a place by their beans and this alone is 5 stars. We have found we love the ranchera (sauce) on our burritos, enchiladas, etc vs gravy. Don't get me wrong the gravy is delicious but we love the tomato base. I've had almost everything on the menu and they are consistent with quality, taste and service. The queso is also amazing. Smooth, perfect creaminess. Never runny or chunky. NO heaps of pico de gallo in it. We get one plain and one with beef. All of the meats have been delicious. Shredded chicken (marinated in the ranchera), fajita beef and chicken. This is a great restaurant in every way. The vibe is bright and cheerful. The food is above and beyond. I eat with my eyes first and the presentation of the dishes was spot on. Not only are there the usual well know plates, they also have a great deal of really authentic dishes too. We had the Queso Flameado with shrimp which was delicious. The molcajete salsa was very flavorful too. I ordered the Cabrito plate which was flavorful. It is rare to find in restaurants because it is a delicacy. The wait staff was super helpful and polite. Those not assigned to our table were attentive of us too. We were a table of 10 and never had to ask for anything. This is a large restaurant and could handle a large party or event. read more

The search for good Tex-Mex in west Houston continues as the atom at Tequila Lopez left me wishing I'd just gone to Taco Bell instead. I don't toss out 1 Star reviews often but i explain. First let me say this review does not reflect the wait staff or host staff at Tequila Lopez as my order was delivered via Door Dash. This review is based purely on the food. Meager portions for the price. When I say meager I mean downright small. Out of all Tex-Mex I've had since moving from Pasadena to West Houston, these folks are the stingiest. Based off the prices alone I was shocked to see how little food was provided. Upon getting over the shock of how little the portions were, I thought maybe the flavor is delicious? Maybe the food is just THAT good! But upon inspecting it looked very bland and just off. The beef fajitas look almost precooked or fajitas you'd get out if the frozen section at H-E-B it Kroger. The salsa provided to me was in two small plastic containers that you'd typically be served butter in for your bread. And the salsa...it's just runny. Like water or oil. No substance. The grilled onions in the cheap fajitas look like they were just covered in oil and cooked as they are bright orange. Rice is dry, and slightly undercooked. So, the fajitas, the salsa, the rice....EVERYTHING tastes like it was tossed into the same pot she cooked together. If you've had one bite, you've tasted everything because evidently they use the same oil for everything. The queso I added fajita beef and it was $8. The container I received was akin to what all other restaurants consider a small queso...and while it was slightly better than the other food, it was still highly uninspired. Puddle of melted velveeta with some oil, sprinkle of Monterrey jack, and more of those lovely frozen fajitas. Chips and tortillas weren't half bad, but of course I was given chip bags smaller than anything I've seen before. I was given a whole 3 of these tiny chip bags for my $8 queso and beef fajitas for one. I didn't know if I'd ever find a Tex-Mex establishment that would make me call Casa Ole inspiring, but it has happened. You ever eat a meal that you can literally taste the chef's depression and lethargy? Interested? Then try Tequila Lopez. I highly HIGHLY recommend avoiding this place for the food. It's overpriced and under-portioned, uninspired, and if you haven't gotten the picture by now...well...it's just not good. At all. Avoid like the plague. Now excuse me while I place this meal where I belongs; into the complex's dumpster. Would be surprised if the neighborhood raccoons or cats even give it a second thought. read more

We went for Steak Night last night and everything was going well until the manager came over to our table and told us that we were too loud. We were in the bar area where it is pretty noisy. We were shocked that he came over to us, when there were many people talking loud in our area. I decided to go to the restroom after he told us that because we were leaving at that point. I use the restroom and there are two ladies by the sink and one of them was blocking the sink. i said excuse me and she moved but the other lady said You are excused. I ignored it the first time but when they were leaving she repeated YOU'RE EXCUSED. I did tell her a few choice words which I will not disclose. When were leaving the manager talked to one of my friends that frequent there. I guess he was trying to explain himself but all of our minds were made up to not come back to this establishment. This has to be one of my new favorite places for Mexican food. I had the Tequila Lopez lunch special. It came with a beef fajita taco, cheese enchilada, tamale, rice and beans all served on a pipping hot plate. Everything was great! The chips and salsa are very good. It is also served with some of the best pickled carrots that I have ever had. A word of warning, the margaritas are potent. The atmosphere is great, very laid back. They have outside seating as well.
