This stylish Japanese BBQ seems incongruous to its suburban surroundings. The decor, menu and…read moreservice all seem to belong to an uppity city restaurant. Not that I'm complaining because where it's situated is convenient for me to get to plus there's easy parking. Shinbashi has a $35 all-you-can-eat Japanese BBQ which is always a popular option. I fyou go this route, make sure to try their fantastic wagyu and marble beef. However, my husband and I always splurge on their $99 Signature Selection for two. It includes these tasty additional extras like Bacon asparagus and Bacon rice cakes. There's also this buttery cheese, sweet potato dish which takes about twenty minutes to cook up on the BBQ but is worth the wait. The service here is great. They always remember to refill my green tea and there's this delicious complimentary soup which comes in a teapot that you can easily fill up on and ruin your dinner if you're not careful. If you live further afield, Shinbashi Yakiniku is definitely worth the drive out to Underwood.

Hidden away in Underwood near the Big Gun butcher, lives this Japanese BBQ place; Shinbashi. All…read moreyou can eat or a la carte (I recommend the latter), you won't leave empty stomached. Being a Japanese BBQ place you basically cook the meat on the hot plate in front of you and dip in delicious sauces before noming down. Staff are genuinely helpful. There's Japanese rice beer to match, though I didn't see how that was going to be consumed amongst the plethora of meats in front of me. Also good to know - the meat is delicious, because it is marbled with delicious fat. I went on a Tuesday night and it was packed. Defs popular amongst the locals.. Or those who know its there. So man up, make the drive, and give this place a go :)

After a few years living overseas I have come to the realisation that in Australia, we are…read moreincredibly lucky to have an endless supply of takeaway sushi shops, specifically those that sell hand rolls for 2-3 dollars. In fact, we have access to so many that we can afford to be picky. Some of them are terrible, offering a range of heavily Westernised items. I once came across a place that served smoked salmon nigiri with melted cheese on top. Don't tell me that is a traditional diet staple of the Japanese. Sushi Point is one of the places that I happily recommend. Even when I purchased my very late lunch close to 4pm, the sushi tasted fresh. Not only do they serve sushi, but they have a hot menu featuring popular Japanese cooked dishes. Another aspect of this store that I'm sure will make them popular is the fact that they offer gluten free options in their sushi range. If you would rather sit down and eat, you can. There is a small terrace area with tables and chairs. It overlooks one of the main shopping streets in Cleveland and even though there are the occasional passing cars, it is quite a pleasant setting. Although they have set opening hours, the restaurant will close a little early if they run out of sushi.

Another example of great service is this: one day I was speaking to a friend at the counter who works about 4km away but comes down to Sushi Point once a week for lunch despite using most of her lunch time up in the exercise. The girl behind the counter said she could call down an order and she'd deliver it - even better if she got a couple more people in the office involved - see what I mean? Great service. The sushi rolls are fresh and so cheap at around $2 - the tuna is yum! and in the colder months the Japanese yellow curry is great.
