We returned to Albergo Dolada for a second time, the first time being a most memorable experience…read moreback in 1996. I can only say it has only improved, which we weren't sure was possible. The restaurant is fine dining in a most beautiful, peaceful setting, with the most talented & personable chef in Chef Riccardo. His love and passion for feeding people is reflected in his food, from the ingredients through the taste profiles & his truly artful presentations. At our table for 6, with advance communication, he masterfully created dishes that accommodated both. a Vegan & a GF Pescatarian, and they were as thrilled with their meals as the rest of us. All sustainable, responsibly sourced ingredients, many from Chef's own garden, & local waters only enhanced the experience. It is the first time anyone at our table actually tasted truffles as they were meant to be used, in a potato-truffle soup, and in a sauce to accompany an unbelievable crispy shelled egg that was a pool of loveliness when cut in to. The truffles enhanced, rather than over-taking, each dish. Chef Riccardo made sure the Vegan didn't miss out on this experience by creating a tofu egg for her with the same treatment. Watching her sheer joy at first bite was a delight And a dish he created with radishes while the rest of us enjoyed the most beautiful fresh fish crudo was one of her favorite dishes of the night. Sheer genius! Not to be missed for the view, the surroundings (book a guest room & you will have the full experience), the incredible hospitality from Chef Riccardo, Giorgio & team, and a meal you will never forget. Risotto with Prawns & Pistachios in a Chile Sauce was heaven-sent, and the art-on-a-plate presentations from first course through the perfect desserts were the treat of a lifetime. Great wine selections too, reasonably priced. Heading down to breakfast shortly but couldn't wait to spread the word, still on cloud 9.

It is family owned/operated, extremely clean, friendly & rife with old world charm. In lieu of a piano in the lobby, they have a double bass (!). A built in biergarten, local cats abound & rooms are very reasonably priced. They also have a restaurant & entertainment facilities that can accomodate conventions & retreats... A very nice hotel located near the train station. I paid about 39 Euros per night and got a room on…read morethe top floor with a view of Piazzale Oberdan. The Austrian Alps are visible from my window as well. The hotel staff are very polite and do speak some english. Breakfast each morning in the lobby cafe and good coffee. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Bathrooms are clean as well. Rooms are small, but comfortable. I travel alone, so this hotel is perfect for me.

If you are ever in the Fruili region and happen tp bump into Maniago (probably on your way to Udine…read moreor whilst driving through the Pedemontana), make sure to take a detour on to Montereale Valcellina. This restaurant, offering some cute hotel rooms as well, is situated on to a road that (once upon a more fruitful time) led to the Maniago train station. The owner of this restaurant is a great businessman, attentive to fine dining at a fairly decent price. When i lived in the area, i would often treat my daughter and i to this cute establishment. Their menu was divine and their tiramisù freshly made every other day. The staff was international and, due to the high volume of American costumers, english was well understood and discretely spoken. I would highly recommend to anyone in the area! It doesn't reach a full 5 stars due to the remote location. You truly do need a car to go dine there. But the parking lot is ample and nice. I even spent a night in the annexed hotel. Fairly priced and nicely kept
