Tenuta San Carlo is the perfect place for people who - like me - seek off-the-beaten-path experiences and take their time off to immerse themselves in nature to unwind. The property is made up of both farmland and wild, natural land that is protected within a regional park. I have traveled plenty in Tuscany, but this is a side of the region that I had never seen before, with a forest, wide-open fields, and a quiet stretch of beach. It feels completely separate from the rest of the world, a kind of hidden gem, and the sunsets are spectacular. That being said, it is by no means a luxury vacation destination and it had all the rustic qualities (and bugs) one could expect in the countryside. However, the apartment had all the basic amenities that I needed (including reliable wifi) and the staff were extremely kind and helpful! You could easily spend your whole vacation here relaxing on the property and dining at their restaurant, which serves amazing Italian food, including the organic rice they grow on their farm. My favorite part of my stay was going on a tour of the rice fields one night and then on a foraging tour of the forest the next night, both nights followed by a delicious meal! read more
