I've used this company several times over the course of 15 years with no complaint or cancelation. However, just recently booked them for a baby shower. Canceled the outdoor portion due to weather 2 weeks prior to the event and instead of charging a cancelation fee and returning the remaining portion of the deposit $280. John kept the entire deposit, blocked me to avoid any additional conversation while I was trying to get clarification and recalled the previously emailed contract for reference, which did not specify that cancelation would forfeit the deposit. Sad but bitter end to me being a loyal customer. Thereby saying, be sure to lock in before you book, otherwise your deposit will NOT be refunded. read more

One of the most disturbing customer service calls I've ever had. I literally thought I heard the guy (John) wrong. I called and asked for a quote, before I could get the quote I asked him could he hold on. I was at work, just like he was. He immediately sighed in a very frustrated manner. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS!!!!!!! This morning, I realized that I needed to look for a tent rental. It has never rained on my birthday. Turns out, there is a possibility it would rain today. I called this place and a man name John answered. The conversation went like this. I asked if they did rentals and asked if I could ask a couple questions. John cut me off and said 'No, I'm going to ask you a few questions. where is the party?' and I stated, it was in my back yard. Then he rudely says 'No where do you live?'. I gave him my address. And he said that the company doesn't deliver to Bridgeport. Then I asked if I could pick up a tent. He became upset with me and asked if the rental was for today. I said 'yes'. He then chuckled and said 'maybe you should fuckin' plan ahead next time' AND HUNG UP ON ME. I then called back and said I was very offended that he would treat me that way over the phone and said I will be writing a yelp review. He then yelled, "LISTEN MA'AM, I DONT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YELP!!" And then hung up on me. The rudest customer service ever. I will be calling the Better Business Bureau. I would rather pay double at another business than support this company. I am all about local businesses/family owned, for I live in Bridgeport- BUT DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. We used this outfit for the first time this month. I have had very few experiences as bad as this in my 52 years. I was verbally insulted by the manager who took our order for not noticing "other" payment methods shown in his email to me. Then they delivered tables for 25 people without chairs and walked away from us when we asked if they had chairs left. In the past, to clarify, we have ordered tables/tents from better outfits and chairs were part of the deal automatically. I only went ahead with using them for fear of not having anything for my son's graduation party. NOT RECOMMENDED. Appalled at the treatment we received. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Terrific customer service from the Kyle and Shawn that came and set up the tent, really great guys! But the Owner, John, is the most unprofessional, disagreeing and unrelenting business owner that I have ever had the "pleasure" of doing business with. Envision our special day welcoming our friends and relatives to our daughter's high school graduation party!! Busted our asses! Every attention to detail gone over twice. Yard perfect, weather perfect, drinks and food perfect! Everything just so. And yay....our tent has arrived! Can't wait to cover with lights and balloons....life is grand! But hold on..reality strikes!!!...what am I seeing being set up, right before my eyes. A dirty, moldy, patched tent, poles all full of duck tape, some mostly all duck tape, tables with corners broken off, all busted up, plastic molding falling off, chairs with legs broken, rusty, jagged stakes...really....this is what I'm paying over $300 for? This is what my family is going to sit on and under??? The owner's excuse..."well this tent has been used before and you're like the last customer using it, so that's what you're getting" But wait, I'm paying what #1 customer paid back in May, right? But now since we're customer #40, it's okay to rent poorly maintained, dirty equipment? And I should be grateful to you for providing it?? Bad business ethic. Just because you own a business doesn't mean you're a businessman. If you don't care what you're getting, this is the place to call - as they don't care what they're giving - "if you don't want it, someone else will"... again, spoken like a true businessman! The other negative reviews on here are spot on! Very demeaning and demoralizing if you don't accept what he's dishing out. Seriously, you'll save a few dollars renting from this "business", but it's totally not worth it. Had Kyle and Shawn (sorry guys) take it all away and ended up borrowing tables and chairs from family and purchasing tents from...K-Mart. Haven't shopped there in years, but neither has anyone else, so plenty of large, beautiful tents (amongst tons of other great stuff) available!!! Turned out this was all for the best as now we have some really pretty canopy tents! But had to change the entire outdoor scheme of our party less than 24 hours out. Party was awesome John! Our family has been using Tents R Us for 10 years. They prompt and responsive, and helpful with suggestions and ideas for best set up for the party location. The set-up and take-down crew are prompt, efficient and polite. The tent, tables and chairs are in good, clean condition. Plan ahead and order your tent ahead of time and there should be no problems whatsoever. read more

We have used Tents R Us for the last 2 years for a Kickball charity event we hold in the forest preserve on Memorial Day Weekend. We spoke with John who was extremely helpful in providing recommendations for what type of tent we would need. This year we were a little late in calling however Tents R Us were still able to accommodate us on this busy holiday weekend. The set up crew arrived first thing in the morning and did a great job setting up a beautiful tent that was large enough to cover our entire food and seating area. Called in to place an order for tables and chairs and spoke to someone named John. Couldn't even order the product because of the word "roughly". I didn't know what sort of packages were offered so I was telling him what I was looking for "roughly." "Roughly" 5 tables and "roughly" 25 chairs. Instead of him saying oh well this package could fit your needs, I was told he was running a business and roughly doesn't work. Said its a small order and I was wasting his time. Said he didn't have time to explain to me what was already explained to my wife, whom called 2-3 hours before I did. Great business on the south side. Have been ordering tents, tables and chairs from these guys for years. I became a customer after making the the mistake of renting a tent to pick up/set up/take down and return for a summer party. My family lives in Beverly and we have used Tents R Us in the past. Of the times we have used them their set up and take down was good as well as their promptness. I had just put in another order for a tent, tables and chairs for another party that we are hosting. A few days before our event, I decided to cancel the tent but still needed the tables. I called John to change my order and he was extremely rude about it. He said that because I cancelled the tent he was not going to deliver any tables to us because it would 'not be worth his while' to do so and pretty much hung upon me. I didn't know what to say, I was shocked. What awful customer service, especially to someone in the neighborhood. I now would rather go and by my own tables and a tent than ever rent from him again! On a separate note, he seems very disorganized especially when he is due to collect payment. I strongly recommend finding another more customer oriented vendor! read more
