It's more of a general commentary on Tennessee, as I've been to several of their rest stops. The state has clearly invested in them, as they are all similarly developed, with stone and wood features. The bathrooms and water fountains you likely come for are ample in scope and in good working order. You'll also be bombarded with twangy music and an enormous amount of pro-Tennessee propaganda. And having been away from the state for a bit, I am reminded that there are actually quite a few nice tourist destinations, more than you'd think if you're not from around here. The comparison to nearby states is quite telling; you won't find anything like this in Kentucky, and Alabama and Mississippi's rest stops tend to be utilitarian at best. In Georgia and South Carolina, you'll struggle to find anywhere to pull over, while western North Carolina tends to have a lot of spots to pull a car over and look but no facilities quite like these. It's also handy that this is a simple loop that gets you off of and back onto the highway momentarily. If you're wondering where to pull over, this is probably the right decision. read more

Tennessee's Welcome Center is also known as Tiftonia Welcome Center. This rest area has a small footprint but the parking covers a large area. When we stopped in March, 2020, there was new construction going on. It appears to just be reconstruction of the on-ramps to the freeway but it was hard to tell what all was being done. It's clean, restful and has what most Welcome Centers have; a place to rest. But don't stay here too long... There is a rule at this rest area that anyone sleeping here longer than their 2-hour limit has to leave. This rule gets enforced especially to truck drivers by the on-site security guards. Rest areas have always been known to be a welcome place for truckers to sleep a few hours, so I'm not sure why this rule exists. But be aware. There are two buildings: one with bathrooms, brochures, and a small area with rocking chairs in front of a fake fireplace. Another building houses various and sundry vending machines. On our visit, the welcome center employee at first seemed suspicious of us Yelpers taking pictures lol, but when I approached to ask questions, she was chatty, and seemed happy to have someone to talk to. read more

Wow! What a welcoming & inviting stop. The young woman at the front desk (Today's her birthday!) was friendly & eager to help in any way she could. Combination recycling & trash bin were in the lobby area. Good idea. Restrooms were clean & well stocked. I loved the hand-washing sign! A separate room in the main building had rocking chairs, a fireplace, and lots & lots of printed information. Outside, we didn't have time, but I wanted to do 14 laps for 2 miles. Next door, the vending machines had their own building. Picnic tables were available for all - accessible for those walking or needing assistance. This is a lovely welcome area. read more

After riding for several hours, it was nice to stop at a scenic and picturesque rest stop. The Tennessee Welcome Center was inviting and the employees were friendly. In addition, the restrooms were very clean and the vending machines were well-stocked. While walking the grounds, I stopped to read the engravings on the memorial monuments. read more

This is a frequent spot, especially when late at night, when traveling up to Chattanooga to visit family. The standards for a Welcome Center (in some places, called a Rest Area) are not high, but this particular one has always impressed. Clean no matter the time of day, spacious, a fireplace blazing in the colder months, rocking chairs a plenty, and even a cut out of Dolly Parton welcoming you to the state. If you prefer the old school method of reading fliers to find Tennessee attractions and restaurants they have you covered. You'll learn about everything from Rock City to Dollywood to wineries to a nature lovers paradise. Of course, during "office hours, someone is onsite to answer questions in person. And if you need a snack or drink, the Vending Building is right next door (you'll see the sign-and it looks like a log cabin). There are two buildings. The Welcome Center. Then the vending machines on the other side. There were picnic tables and construction on the side where we got back on the interstate. The welcome center had a room that sports a fireplace and four wooden rocking chairs that provided a nice back drop and a comfortable vibe inside. There was tons of available spots. This is my Mom's regular stopping point between Atlanta and Knoxville, so over the years I've experience the wonderful hospitality of the staff working at this welcome center. There's plenty of parking (separated for cars and trucks), clean well-stocked restrooms, and plenty of open grassy areas to stretch your legs or walk your dogs. Lots of cool stuff to look at inside, almost like a mini museum of TN history. The southbound side is also very nice. read more

I really liked this Welcome Center. It was really easy to get in and out of. Right off the exit and plenty of parking. I will say this is the busiest one I've been to. The bathrooms are clean, plenty of vending machines with a great selection of drinks and snacks. After being on the road for several hours I was looking for a place to get out of my truck and stretch and get the blood circulating again and also to get rid of the last few cups of coffee, nothing more, nothing less. Well this welcoming center has a little bit of everything you'd hope to find while driving the interstate system. Plenty of parking, nice clean restrooms a friendly group of volunteers promoting their state's history and economic development and a whole host of information on landmarks, hotel, restaurants and beautiful state parks, so you can imagine my surprise when I entered the main building and there stood Dolly Parton - say what!!! Yes there she was looking as good as ever with her big set of pearly whites showing through her welcoming smile. This was unbelievable and more unbelievable was the fact that although she was standing beside a display of booklets advertising Dolly Wood and her Stampede Buffet there wasn't a soul in sight it seemed I would be first in line to shake her hand. This is when I first realized how tired I was after driving for hours, much to my dismay after speaking to her for a few minutes I realized she was actually a life size cardboard replica all perfectly proportioned such a perfect rendition, you can imagine my disappointment and the astonishment of the folks around me - I now know the intention and value of these roadside rest areas, they are not just your father's pee stop of yesteryear where you ran to the john and ran back while your parents argued over the remaining distance to the next Stuckey's to buy a pecan log as your dad flipped the pages of the Rand McNally.... read more

Nice welcome center coming into Tennessee from Atlanta or Georgia. You will see it on the right just past the East Ridge exit. However, please be careful exiting this welcome center back onto the freeway. As you are merging back into I-75 North be cautious entering the lane. Overall, nice facilities here. read more

Only 2 hour parking, even for trucks, makes this "rest stop" nothing more than a spot to stretch your legs and grab a pamphlet on Tennessee. Very disappointed to see a security guard too stoked to do his job and not allow us to sleep or rest for any decent amount of time. read more

We stopped here on 22 December, 2018 and while in the Rear Pet Area a large 18 wheeler truck cranked up and scared out pet Cat into the woods in the back. We searched for hours but could not find him. He is a orange male cat named Sam and we are offering a reward of $500 for anyone who finds him. He has a chip and any animal shelter in the area cab identify him. If anyone finds our cat call me at 706-464-1224 and I will drive up and pay the reward for our cat. A clean place to use the bathroom for free and open on holidays? Yep, it's a-ok in my book. And actually, they're pretty nice bathrooms, with TONS of stalls, and a big, well decorated lobby area. The vending is minimal, but at least they have both coke and pepsi options. read more

Very clean and not too busy at 9am. Left 75° Florida wearing shorts and pulled in here 11 hours later to find it 34°. I changed in the bathroom and then took the baby from my wife and changed her diaper and clothes on the oversized baby changing table. Very convenient to have such a big changing table. The little waiting area with rocking chairs was nice and I got to read about the Civil War in Chattanooga and also get flyers for local attractions.
