The Tenderloin After-School Program (TASP) is a very well-outfitted non-profit community center that takes care of kids while their parents are busy or still at work. TASP takes in ages 5 to 18 and offers a wide range of services which keep the kids entertained with educational projects, games, books, sports, field trips, and help with homework.
While there are plenty of kids that regularly come to TASP each day, the center offers all these services for free with computers, textbooks, and tutoring all at the children's disposal. The Program Coordinators Laura, Jen, and Zeyda all have a great repertoire with the kids, as they can be very firm when necessary but always able to laugh and joke when appropriate.
I've been volunteering with TASP for the past year and have continued to come back each week because the kids and the staff are so awesome and full of life. The program is also linked with the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) which is an equally amazing non-profit that deals with affordable housing issues.
