We had a few hours to kill and have the kids entertained. This was the perfect place. Lots of activities for the kids . The ride on the robotic arm was the most loved . They have a couple of eating areas for kids as well.

Temporary Exhibit: Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Experience - Models on display

I've been to a number of similar science centres and I have to say that Telus Spark is right up there. The standing exhibits are pretty entertaining and engaging for all ages. One downside is that parking isn't free because it shares the overall lot with the Calgary Zoo. Make sure you pay your parking as they do ticket regularly. As you can see from my photos, they have travelling exhibits which have included Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience. I thought it was freaking awesome!! A mix of models, costumes and activities, it's what one expects from exhibits in a science centre. I've also attend BodyWorlds and others here which help make the visit worth it. As Edmonton and Calgary are far enough apart from each other, they participate in a reciprocal science centre general admission program if you have a membership at your local facility. Really nice perk when your visit is free and admission to travelling exhibits is cheaper like only having to pay $10 for Star Trek. Great deal.

Everyone was wearing masks and there were people cleaning through out the day. Many stations for the kids to play and learn in an hour to two. Especially if the kids are interested in science or have a certain topic that they like. Such as body, weather etc. If too young, it may not be the most fun place. There were helpers around the place all the time. I liked how they had a big dome movie theatre and a show hourly. I think it's the biggest in North America. Also, they had a outdoor and indoor playground. We grabbed the space ice cream. We had to wait 30min-1 hour as the machine needed some work. We tried Mercury, Neptune and Saturn. Many other different kinds. It was good. They may not be the colour or look the way it's described but still cool.

Drinking + Lego = adults only night

My girlfriend and I came to check out the new science centre in January for an adults only night. The theme of the night was "Find a new hobby". It was pretty great. In the main hall they invited local clubs to come set up shop and show everyone what they were about. There was stamp collecting, R/C vehicles, chess, and Lego among others. Most importantly, there was a cash bar. Though you couldn't go into the exhibit areas with your beverage (damn spilly talkers ruining things for the rest of us), you could wander through the main hall and chat with the different clubs while you sipped away. From what I could tell the vast majority of regular exhibits were open. Even the younger kids area. The tree house/fort was full of people running around in their socked feet. I would argue that this area was the best part next to the booze. If I'm ever in town again when an adults-only night is happening I'm definitely going to make an effort to visit again.

I wonder why they need to charge for parking... that should be already covered with the entrance ticket to the museum. The exhibitions are good for children, but there is not much stuff for adults... They do have Adult only nights, but does it mean there will be exhibitions for adults? well... no, sadly that's not the case. This just gives an opportunity to explore the museum without children yelling and running around. The dome show is really nice, I wish the seats were recliners so you can have a better view without getting torticollis. You need to pay an extra ticket if you want to see the dome show. Hmm, I kind of expected more from a science museum, but if you have kids and live in Calgary, you should take them there. If you go on the Halloween weekend, most of the kids wear costumes, as well as the staff.

The New Science Centre, otherwise known as TELUS Spark, is much, much larger than its predecessor. I went on opening day on my own to check it out, and was impressed by how much space there was to play in. Some parts of the centre were either still under construction or not open yet, but the four main exhibits that were open all offered plenty of opportunities for all ages to explore science and to be creative. Like the old Science Centre, most, if not all of the exhibits had a hands-on component to it. You could experiment generating and playing with electricity in a variety of ways, attempt to create craters or dams, build windmills and pipelines, test your reaction time, create music, and so much more. I spent at least three hours on my own just exploring and playing around. In fact, the four main exhibits are perfect if you want to bring along the kids, or even a friend or a date as there are many opportunities to play together collaboratively. There's a presentation theatre that has special presentations every hour, and various group activities routinely occur in the atrium area as well. The Creative Children's Area (which you can only enter if you have a child, or know a staff member who'll clear you for entrance) is much bigger than before as well, with a giant water table, illuminated tables, padded play areas, and a wicked cool jungle gym with an air cannon on the second level that the kid in me really, really wanted to try. The best improvement of all though is the fact that washrooms are now installed within the area, which makes it much easier if you're a parent with a child. As of this writing, some areas of the centre weren't open yet. Those include the Dome Theatre and the external exhibits area where special or traveling exhibits will eventually debut. For now, the centre is focusing on showcasing their four permanent exhibits. My only complaints with the venue is that there is no obvious pathway from the Zoo LRT station to TELUS Spark. I'm a transit user myself, and while it's a short distance away from the station on foot, you'll be crossing parking lots and a couple of grassy areas to get there. Also note that the gift shop and the cafe is considered outside of the exhibits, so if you want to do some quick shopping or grab a bite to eat and then go back in, you'll need to show security your ticket or pass again. A minor annoyance, especially if you're not expecting it, so don't lose your ticket! Also, I could totally see the cafe running out of seating if it's a busy day down there. Not sure what more can be done about that though, and it isn't like the old location had a lot of seating as well. Considering this was opening day, the venue was a little rough around the edges, and parts of the centre either weren't ready, had a few kinks to work out, or were still under construction. That said, it's an interesting space that shows a lot of promise and potential, and is much better suited than the old space downtown. There's something to see and do for everyone, so it's definitely worth checking out, even if you're an adult.

Expensive but spent way longer there than I imagined I would. Entertaining. Gone are the days of the Science Centre with the shadow wall and the giant keyboard. This place is high tech and clearly in an oil and gas -wealthy province. I missed the earth sciences but did feel fully entertained for the three hours I spent here seeing all of it. Enjoyed the stop motion animation and the On Fire free Demo. Check it out. Better to do with a friend or group as it's interactive and most booths work better in a pair. Liked that they had free cell phone charger stations in the cafeteria but kinda wish they had been at the beginning so I could have made use of it instead of at the end of my visit when I just needed a little something to tie me over. Overall pretty fun for the nerdy dorky me but kinda expensive.

Awesome place to visit! Go during the week and check the online day calendar. It will show you how many schools will be there so you can come on a slow day if you prefer. They also give you $5 off your parking ticket, bring the receipt one you pay.

Every first Thursday of the month is free admission sponsored by Servus. I had to take advantage of this offer. Regular price admission is $18 per person. Why pay when you can go in for free. Plus I am not a tourist so might as well visit on a Thursday. All exhibits/galleries are open on the free admission day. The museum is very specifically tailored to the First Nation history and history of Calgary. They do have an interesting section on geology: rocks, minerals, stones, geode and etc. That gallery was slightly out of place compared to the rest of the museum/items on display. The first floor is really the gift shop and museum ticket/concierge/info center. Second floor is the first nation artworks. There are paintings and a few pieces of artwork. Third floor is about the oil and gas industry. As well, as the first settlement and the history of Calgary. Fourth floor is more tailored to the British Army and a section on the history of Africa. Everything is well documented, comprehensive and well referenced in the museum. Expect to spend about 2 hours minimum here. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. I don't think this museum changes much and so it is really one time visit. Note that no big backpacks are allowed into the museum and would be required to be checked in.

We came with a school group and they did an amazing job with their educational presentations, it was fun and informative, and even my little guys were entertained with the performance. We also really enjoyed the fish feeding experience and seeing the sheer volume of fish that are hatched and raised here is eye opening. They take care of their facility and are careful with cleanliness here too and it really shines. Doing a scavenger hunt and learning to identify different kinds of fish in the lower fish tank areas. And these older fish really did seem like they were listening to us if we stopped and talked to them- that was probably the fishiest part of our visit! Fish talking lol And upstairs the displays are so well done! Lots to see and the video that was playing was really great too. Learned a ton here!

The only negative about the space is that the main revolving door is a little too seamless! Meaning: the actual openings to come in and out look way too similar to the glass panels!
