I'm usually hesitant to go to any shops in touristy areas, but I took a chance and had very good service from helpful, friendly staff here. It's located directly across from the Glockenspiel, so I had a fantastic view while waiting (3 people ahead of me took 10 minutes). I'm only in Germany and Austria for a week, but I know that popping a SIM card into my iPhone is cheaper than using VZ $10/day service. I got the 2G for €15 Euro, plus 10€ activation fee (which they actually waived, not sure why, but they were really nice!).
And they spoke English perfectly.
Remember to bring your passport to buy any prepaid SIM cards in the EU. Something about "no crooks can buy a 'burner phone'" like you see them do in the movies. Fair enough.
They did warn me it would take 20 minutes for the new SIM card to start working, and right on the dot, I got 2 text messages. They were in German, but I assumed they said "welcome to Telekom your phone is now ready" haha. read more
