My labor cost (before materials) was $3,500 for 125 feet ($28 per foot) for a six-foot dogeared picket fence with posts set every six feet, or $28 per foot, for one line of fencing and no corners or gates. The initial labor bid was for only $2,100, for 113 feet, but I raised the amount to allow him to take time to do his best work, and because I decided to add 12 more feet of fence, and I wanted stringer boards pre-drilled to prevent end split. That's $1,400 extra. The job started out well. Perfect post line, properly concreted and hole depth. But soon the project became a typical rush job. I asked for a change in the rot board positioning before the pickets went up because I hadn't noticed he was placing pickets to overlap it, but he became confrontational and refused, saying it would take three more hours and was not the "right" way. I know better, and pickets above rot board was what I wanted anyway. In addition, he didn't use the type and size picket nail I wanted although I was very clear on that, and he agreed to use them. The nails he used are too small for my liking and too close to center on the pickets to help prevent cupping, and some were skipped as the nailing went extremely fast. I'll have to have the rot-board redone by someone else to get what I want, despite $28 per foot labor only for a single picket fence, line, no gates. I am also going to have to add additional nails of the type I wanted. That's a lot of work. If you use this company I recommend covering every detail in writing and keeping a close eye on the project and all materials as it goes.

It meant my dogs got out the evening after the first time they were here, but I just made a note to double check gates next time. They texted me a couple of times around 10pm, so I asked them not to text me so late. I suspected they're a young company and don't quite understand some of the do's and don'ts of customer interactions yet. Last week, the rain stopped them from coming out as scheduled. My lawn was a bit tall, but I told them I understood. They finally came out this week on Wednesday, after I let them know my HOA had sent me a note; still, no worries - rain has to have messed up their schedule. While they were here, I had a bit of clever maneuvering to do to get my car out of the garage. They'd left a mower right in the middle of my driveway and walked back to their trailer parked several houses down - meh, likely an oversight. Hopefully it won't happen again. Afterward, they sent me a Venmo request for their fee. I like that they accept Venmo! It's been an extreme few days for my family, and I have hardly been able to catch my breath, so I had not even opened Venmo in the past 24 hours... but tonight at 10:35pm (seriously, what kind of business TEXTS their customers after 9pm at night??) I got a message insisting I take care of the Venmo request. Here's the thing... remind me, sure!! No problem. But do it within normal business hours. Especially given that I'd previously asked not to be contacted so late. There are so many good lawn services in this town, I've let them go. They do good work, but their customer service needs improvement and this momma is tired...

When he came by recently to inspect, he denied his crew cut the shower pan. The proof is in the pics. He lied to my face with ease. Not smart to deny in the day of cell phones.
